You are so right.Im 55 and I was there when there weren't computers and cell phones. It was so much simpler and people knew how to think for theirselves.I have 2 friends now that are addicted to the shit and all they care about is staring at the computer all day, every day. They cant think anymore. The simplest things elude them.Gotta check with the computer to see what I should do next. Its pathetic. Hope you're smart enough to use it and not abuse it. Farewell, you young Whipper snapper.

THIS is COMEDY ! I watched all the Roasts as a kid, and NO ONE made me laugh as hard as Don Rickles - I laughed so hard I was crying ! Yeah, my humor runs right along with Don Rickles', Thank You Don! More than once you saved my life with your humor, and God Bless you for It!. The cool thing was - you KNEW he was kidding, and that he was a real class act. I am 55, and seeing all these stars that we knew as kid start to pass on makes me a bit sad because these stars were of a different breed of stars than we see today, more old-school, if you will. and I laughed so hard here, I was crying now too ! Rock On, Don Rickles ~ You Are a Class Act and you will be sorely missed !

In 1974 I was at Sportmans Park in Chicago for the night racing card and spotted Rickles at a table nearby with his wife and another couple. I wanted to say hello and have him sign my program but I figured I better get a few insults ready to fling at him in case he started in on me. (I would retort with: "Did you get a lollipop with that haircut?") Anyway, I stopped by with my program in hand and politely told him how much I enjoyed his work. He offered me a seat to join them, asked me who I liked in the next race, signed my program, offered to buy me a drink. I thanked him for the autograph, declined on joining them (that really would have been imposing), and left with even more respect for him than ever before. He was a consummate pro and all-around great guy. There'll never be another like him.

Great memory I’m sure, lovely story. He was one of the best ever, up there with Groucho, for me anyway. And wasn’t it great that even while he was slagging off every form of person (race, sex, class etc.), it was all taken in good faith. No one ever walked out, called the authorities or got up on their ‘PC horse’. Classic comedy, we’ll never see the likes of it again. Hope you all have a nice day ✋

I think it's because they all know each other so there's actual love and friendship. Nowadays it's just random comedians roasting celebs like it's the first time they met. They roast everyone with what people read about them in the headlines. There's history behind the jokes in these old roasts.
