7 Reasons Why You Attract Toxic People

Do you ever wonder why good people attract toxic people like narcissists, psychopaths, and sociopaths? If you’re a good person, there are several reasons why you attract toxic people. You see, the types of people you attract have a lot to do with who you are. That doesn’t mean that you’re doing something wrong, but you may want to figure out what it is about you that is so alluring to toxic personalities.
If you are a highly sensitive person or an empath, you may especially feel like a magnet to toxicity. You attract narcissists, sociopaths, and toxic people because these individuals tend to flock to those with a generous and compassionate nature.
So if you tend to attract friends with problems or constantly attract toxic partners, watch this video to find out exactly why that is - and how to turn things around.

One doesnt 'attract' toxic people. One just 'allows' toxic people to stay in one's life. Simple truth. I've learnt that the first instance someone disrespects me and treats me less than, I'm going to move on from them. The thing is people ALWAYS know they are disrespecting you but they do it anyway. So best to move on from them before they keep hurting you. The first red flag ALWAYS becomes the reason why you eventually break up from them anyway.

I would keep these people as friends because to let them go would mean less people I knew so I kept these bloodsuckers around me for too long fearing lonliness. Not having family around in the country I live in was another factor in keeping those people close.

@ Penny Savage, I'm glad you asked. The situation only seems complicated because we must learn about ourselves. I would listen to this message again and again. I have taken notes. The answers are there but our emotions deceive us. That's how you get hit. Trust what these people are saying. I am reading: the Soul Fast Workbook by Cassandra Mack, MSW, she's on utube. And Inner Intergration, also on utube. She dies an excellent job on topics like these. But step back and take in the truth of God's Word to encourage you, you need balance. These are the last days that's why there is so much evil in the earth and Jesus is coming back for believers. All of this is spiritual then it comes in the natural. I really hope this helps.

I've been looking up personality disorders for about 1 1/2 years because people were telling me my ex-fiance had personality disorders and I was surprised that Sadistic Personality Disorder never came up before. I was a social worker and after I retired I gradually became aware that I was still social working toxic friends and family members. My turning point was when I had a life threatening illness 5 years ago and afterwards while still weak I noticed that my toxic partner and relatives were even more demanding of my time and resources. I started to link my poor physical health with always doing for others and putting myself last. I simply stopped! I informed them I would no longer be available to them and pulled away completely once I realized they would never respect my boundaries. My life is really good now! Since they took so much and contributed so little positive, I am much better off emotionally, physically and financially. I find beauty in living each and every day and can concentrate on my positive friends and family members.

  • @rgangan84

@Vittoria Colonna Toxic people are those, who manipulate, abuse and drain our energies through their actions. The mean & cruel attitudes are behavioural tendencies, which has background for behaving in that manner. Negativity can be changed with positive and acceptable actions and decisions, but if manipulating tactics are repeated, with egoistic behaviour, damaging personal and professional life of a person, with different nonsense behaving patterns, then nobody can trust in such toxic people, nobody would care to solve the problems of such toxic people. If you can't do good to anyone, then you shouldn't do wrong to anyone. Those who do wrong, pay the price for their karmic actions.

The older I get the more I understand why I don't have many friends. I can focus when I'm alone and reflect. In the quiet reflective time I recognize what manipulative people do. I had an ex tell me he couldn't believe I was so nice and actually trusted people. He thought I was faking it until he learned that was genuinely me. It took me years to understand he told me so much about himself in that statement and many other similar statements. Now, I'm BIG on boundaries with family especially. I don't fear being alone. I'm quick to let go of people who don't energize and bring joy to me as well. If it's not a fairly balanced relationship I exit.

This was the story of my teens until about 27 (ish). I'm 31 and still have bad habits of being too giving of passive, but I'm working on it. I was abused as a child, and it created a pattern of thought that I strive to break free from, but I'm not perfect. Toxic people approach me often, but stick around less and less. It's encouraging...and I was so jacked up and suicidal when I was 26, I needed to change so badly, and I spent a couple of dark years on my own after moving away from my habits and previous relationships. It's much better now, and if I could do it, anyone can. I'm on natural medicines too, which are healing.

So lesson's there is if you enter a new realationship is to never tell them about your past and get to know them first 🌈💙

NEVER tell people to that are close to or frequent in your life your problems or struggles. They will use the information to pin point your weak points and use them against you once the scenario is right. People also give you what you're accustomed to. So if they see that abuse and low value treatment is your norm , they somehow thinks that's a green light to dish out more of the same . Humans are a pack of swine for the most part, they will kick you when you're down. Don't tolerate shit treatment , speech or pity predators whatsoever .

#6 and #7. I have a been a survivor and achiever my entire life I am now in my 60s and facing the fact that it’s my own mother that was the toxic one. No one would believe the things she has done to me including casting me out at the age of 14 and watching the abuse from my father. She is still alive and I’m trying hard to set boundaries beginning with no contact which has made her more persistent and angry, trying to destroy what little I have left. As a child I believed everything she said. I let her chop off my beautiful long hair, had no friends, stayed in my bedroom. She never visited me in the hospital after she ran out of the house with my brothers leaving my father to abuse me. Later in life I now think she enjoyed my struggles including raising my son alone. I didn’t believe my grandmother when she said my mother was jealous of me. A child does not know her mother is toxic.

People do that a lot when you happen to be attractive visually. They project assumptions that your life is easy when it is rarely the case. For women, some men will deliberately be abusive to women they find attractive because it gives them a thrill. They do not care about the person who happens to live in that body they are using. If I see an attractive woman, I know she has had to put up with some nonsense from men.

When I tell you I attract so much negativity, hate and toxicity I’m not kidding. Even random strangers I have no idea who they are I’ll smile and they always dislike me for whatever reason .. I get called slangs , I get talked about my appearance, I get overlooked ignored, laughed at whatever it is it’s usually NEVER positive. I don’t do anything at all to trigger this I try my hardest to be a kind sweet girl and even when I get thrown hate at I still never respond or if I do it’s with kindness. Even my older brother is hateful towards me and my older sister gets praised and easily loved my strangers. I have been called the “ugly sister” numerous times. I have sm anxiety to leave my house especially when with my sister .. I try to love myself but my ego and confidence is nonexistent and people still break me down. I have very few friends and they cherish me sm because they know my heart but still I don’t understand why I get constant critized and belittled ? I don’t understand how my sister can similarly smile at people and she gets praised while I always get belittled for doing absolutely nothing. It hurts my heart so much. She always get favorited even if she’s not even trying and I have gone the extra mile for people and only have gotten dislike in return. Even if I don’t go the extra mile I still am not liked. I just don’t understand at all why I am a hate negativity magnet when I’ve had sm light and love for people for the longest time. It makes me sick and a lot of days I’m crying over it repeating these hateful words others have said to me .. I know people say “ignore it” or don’t listen but it’s hard when more than 1 person tells you the same thing and I just start to believe it and think there’s truth to it. I just feel pathetic most days and idk what to do.

I can relate. But I’m now learning how to handle them. I know now how to set boundaries and try to turn their negativity into positivity. I tell them my own drama with a twist on how I made it. When they realized that they can’t take me to the ride, they leave me alone and they walk away... 😉

I almost 😅 all of these things but b/c I read books & listen to KZread’s on this topic, I can smell “toxic” a mile away. When I smell toxic, I leave skiiiiiiid marks!!!!!

I have far too many of these traits, and let too many boundaries crossed. I have attracted far too many crazies also. Good video. Letting go of those mistakes is tough though.

Mediating in positive energy makes one to not ever want negativity or toxicity in our lives anymore. Get a candle and speak to the universe that you only attract goodness, safe and kind surroundings in your life

I had to withdraw from all famiy members with rare exceptions. Because of this I found the peace and joy rushed back like a flood. However, the devil keeps trying to bring them back through certain pressures. Every time I am in the company of these people even for a short time I sense that gut ickyness returning as though I want to leave. I say my polite goodbyes and go a very long time again of not seeing them. We would think that people would change as they grow older, its not true, if anything they become solidified and even grow worse.

I have met a lot of toxic people in my life. I feel so small when I am with them. It's like I should be generous whenever friend A is with me. Friend B requires me to entertain her. I feel am nobody when I am with Friend C. Those were the feelings I feel when I am with them.

This definitely sounds like me. I always felt sorry for the unfortunate and wanted to help everyone be better... but they hang on tight to you, drain and drag you down... If I don’t see you making an effort for yourself I cut You loose! 🤔

I found this very helpful. Most importantly it didn't condemn ones good intentions and behavior. I needed it to be firmly highlighted that it is necessary to be careful about dishing out one's good nature. One has to face reality on what it can attract and that there are toxic people who one should not give the power to. Don't be paranoid or go from extreme to another but accept the fact that there are toxic people and just be careful and in control around them Very helpful for me.

Toxic people always take your kindness for weakness. Self-assertiveness is your best defense mechanism and tool against toxic people. You have to know where to draw the line and when to protect yourself when dealing with toxic people.
