1:35 for returns or exchanges I have a method that really works for me. Let's use your soda bottles for example... I'd put the bottles in a tote bag and hang it by the door (my mudroom has a row of hooks). If I needed a receipt or other paperwork, I'll put that in the bag too. Or let's say I want to color match something, that goes on the bag. Then I put a sticky note on the outside of the bag with the store name on it. Every time I leave the house, I check the bags... "Am I going by that store?"... Yes! I grab it without looking inside because I know that I'm prepared, everything I need is inside the bag and I don't get anxious. When I get to the store, I look in the bag and head to customer service. No more being embarrassed that I forgot the receipt. 💖🌞🌵😷

I use a clak with crates on it. The one crate is collapsed and inside the other behind the island in my kitchen (small European house) when I need to do a task. It goes in a bag with the receipt etc or the soda canisters and when I go to run errand I load the crate into my car with the little clax wagon they fit on and off I go. Again everything is there ready to go

@@vickyb9918 I do this for friends and family too. If my mum asks: next time you come over, please bring the thing... I put the thing in a bag with her name on the sticky on the outside. That way, if she stops by and I'm not home, the kids can see that she has a bag hanging and she doesn't have to come back for the thing. If the thing is too big or heavy for the bag, I write it's location on the sticky below the name, but everything else I need goes in the bag. It's all about making errand day less stressful. On errands day, I just want to grab the bags and go. I don't want to have to remember where I put the heavy thing. It's like when I pack the bag, I'm the CEO. And on errand day, I'm just the errand girl. This is particularly helpful if I need to delegate the errand to someone else, just grab the bag and go. 💖🌞🌵😷

@@zoewassermann6601 that little wagon is a great idea! I started putting the sticky notes on the outside of the bags because one day I had 3 or 4 stops. At the first stop, I had to look through several bags to find the right one for that stop. I was annoyed. Same with the second stop, I was frustrated. By the third stop, OMG please help me! Now, with the bags labeled, it's easy peasy. Maybe if I had them in a crate, I could put them in order💡! Thanks for your reply. Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵 USA. How often do Americans return things? In New Zealand you generally only return things if they're faulty. Or is a lot of stuff over there faulty? There is one big store here that lets you return things if you've just changed your mind, but in that case it has to still have the tags on it or still be in the box and I think you have to return within 28 days... Does the USA have heaps more stores that do this or am I missing something?

I find one thing on the bench will multiply over night! I got therapy after family members causing fights or having resentment for me in there since I was a kid. This helped so much and now I’m single I can go in there freely and without guilt. I now I have a habit that as I leave a room, I try to make it tidier by taking a few things out of there that belong in the next room or near it that I’m going to. If I’m in the kitchen, I might do a quick trash run out to the bins. I try to keep a minimum in the pantry and just shop for the week as one cook up will last 5-6 days. I now know that I have a dirty dishes threshold and it’s only about 6 items and if I don’t do them ASAP, I used to leave them for a day or so as they caused me stress. A happy dance after doing them is essential. I also unstack the dishwasher when the microwave is on as it gives me a treat after the job. I’ve come a long way and it’s cool, not perfect…yet.

I was so happy to read that you went for therapy to help deal with things from the past. I did the same, as I grew up in a very chaotic, loud household. I found that I tried to keep things too tidy, so when I married and had kids, that's when I needed the help to deal with life. I love that you do a happy dance, which is a great idea that I will add to my kitchen duties! Life is about balance, and finding a healthy approach to daily living!! You're doing great!!

@@Patti-1962 Hi Patty, so glad you went to therapy too and I’m wishing you all the best! I felt like I’d been run over by a train until my youngest was 16 while all the other mums were glowing and in control and doing well. I also sing (badly) a parody about stacking the dishes to Grease’s You’re the one that I want. That song works for any chore and I thoroughly recommend it! My teenage room was immaculate and I decluttered every 2wks. I loved it. Then I married a narcissistic hoarder and had a baby at 21. He criticised everything and it broke my spirit and I couldn’t clean to his standards so I just did what I could with a demanding baby in tow. Since my divorce last year (yay) I’ve been making things easier by researching how to do things better and see what works for me. I also have made a few bits of furniture during my zero budget reno and it’s taking me back to making things tidier again. Haven’t progressed to the cleaning again as it’s only been a few weeks my habits kicked in but I’ll get there. There’s a lot to be said for watching the original Muppets as a kid! Always loved Kermit’s pure joy in his happy dance and it’s never left me.

Definitely a constant! And ever-changing. I was going to note, I understand the goal of clearer flat surfaces, but personally it doesn’t work for me. I try to limit it and am always looking for new ways to do that, but I love not only a bit easier access, but also how pretty my utensils holder is and my woodblock cutting board and knives, so I display them. Other things are nice to keep on my counter as I use them regularly and they’re heavy or simply because I haven’t found a better place for them yet. Constant!

I used to think like that, but I now have almost completely clear counters, and it's great. This popped up on my feed. Vertical organizational therapy (what I call it as a doctor nearing the end of my career) and decluttering 5 items at a time has helped me tremendously as I read about all the new doctors leaving or setting their boundaries really high and being reassured by the state while older doctors that sacrificed weren't. I wish I got organized twenty five years ago in my life, but it was always a mess due to my profession. Making a plan to leave has improved life tremendously. It is disturbing, to be disorganized, on top of everything else. What a great career you have. Enjoy, you are inspiring to me. I think it should be part of therapy for people with situational depression, adjustment disorder, etc...

My oldest walked in one day and it was slightly messy and he was like, wow we gotta clean this up before we get started. Made me lol. The other thing this taught me is that thing on the counter can just go into a drawer really close to where you want it, and as you say, it won't be any more inconvenient, so if anyone wants to be crazy like me, I totally suggested going nuts and finding new homes for the things that you actually use. Also I have a pretty big kitchen and I still ahve my sometimes stuff put away somewhere else cause I just want space lol

Such great advice! My kids have their own families now, but when they were young, I made the kitchen counter tops, table and dining room table no clutter zones (yes, I read that in a great article!) That way, they didn't walk in and immediately dump their backpacks and things in the kitchen. Another thing is that everyone had a water bottle to use. Before, I had to walk around the house collecting half full glasses of water. My husband likes to leave piles of clutter around, so I will put the things on a tray in his office so he can figure out what to do with everything (he struggles with ADHD.) Keeping clutter under control is a constant battle!!

You've never seen a professional kitchen at the end of a shift, then, after everything has been cleaned up and put away? Good chefs don't work in cluttered kitchens. They start cooking by getting out the ingredients and tools that they need, not by reaching for a jar of utensils on the counter or the bottle of oil by the stove.

@@GeeEee75 , so, I guess you've never seen Gordon Ramsay's "Kitchen Nightmares" TV shows... The reason they put everything away like that is to keep the mice and cockroaches away. I don't have problems with pests in my home. And I love to show off my pretty oil bottles, and salt & pepper shakers. The crock I keep my cooking utensils in was the one my great-grandmother used. Probably if I didn't have that crock, my utensils would probably live in a drawer, but every time I reach for something, I think of her. When I started out, there was no way I could afford a $300 stand mixer. It now has a place of honor on my counter because I saved a long time to pay for it and when I look at it, I feel a huge accomplishment. It lives in the back of the counter that isn't used. I'm petite and it's uncomfortable for my arms to reach that far, so it sits in a space I don't use anyway. Besides, I don't think Gordon will be visiting my kitchen any time soon, so I think I'm safe leaving out the things that I love. Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵. Same! I don't even like coffee, but I loved the original name. It really stood out. I don't have kids (by choice) but I relate so much to this channel, and the name being unrelated to motherhood was actually what drew me to it. Absolutely nothing against motherhood, I just don't think I would have clicked on it if it had been this name at the time.

When you are so space challenged that you can't put things in your cupboards or drawers because you don't have any -.-'. I have one drawer, that cannot possibly hold everything I use on the daily. I have cupboards, sure, two of them. I can only use half because my mum cannot reach the upper two shelves. I have to leave the stuff on the counter so she can access it, particularly the items she uses every day. It's not impossible, some things being on the counters is functional. Like a measuring cup (the glass kind) or a spoon rest. Also, heavy items that take more effort to move than to work around, ie, a microwave or a stand mixer.

  • @Arissiah
    @Arissiah23 күн бұрын

I wish I had the storage for clear countertops but my whole kitchen has maybe 4 cabinets with the worlds worst layout and exactly two small drawers. Leaving a cup with cooking utensils on the counter is just a sacrifice I have to make.

Putting stuff on the dining table would absolutely not work for me because I would get distracted and forget it's there. ^^" #AuDHD Here is my 3 step plan for taming an out of control kitchen: 1. Throw away any rubbish. It doesn't need to be here, it's just getting in the way. 2. Put away any clean crockery and anything that's on the counters and shouldn't be. It can go away and stop being clutter. 3. Empty+reload the dishwasher and/or do the washing up and/or stack dirties next to the sink. Now you have a garbage free kitchen, with everything that can be away away, and all the dirties tamed. For bonus points, wipe down your counters and organise your fridge.

  • @ReapersBaby

Yep, I have ADHD and my dining table is where the clutter creeps most. Being an 8 seater table, it's the largest flat surface in my house so it's where everything gets sorted from and where things get put that I don't have an idea of where to store. Over the last year and a half, I've noticed that I dont know where things are stored in other people's homes to apply it into mine and therefore everything lives anywhere it's not supposed to. I also dont have much storage space in the house and it's rented so I dont want to be damaging walls putting shelves up, because I've found the plaster crumbles if its drilled into too much. I've had 2 curtain poles fall down and a stair gate fall out of the wall at the bottom of the stairs only half an hour after it was installed. All 3 times I have needed my stepdad to help with getting plaster and filling the gaping holes left behind because of the cavity between the outside single brick walls. Long story short, my minimalist housing officer doesnt like my 'hoarding' (aka ADHD clutter) 🙄😮‍💨 Sorry for the ranty ramble! 😅

@ReapersBaby I try to be "minimalist" so that I don't have as much on my table, but it is still there. I can't get rid of everything. LOL. Right now there is a bunch of appliances, folded laundry, and important papers on the table.
