When I first saw Morty, I thought he was an idiot. And at the beginning he kind of was. But he got smarter over time, and more self consious. Morty began to tie his misery to Rick, rather than just the situation they're in. I think he found out that he was mostly just a tool, and that Rick wanted to be in the situation where he knew everything so that way he felt valid and in control.

At the end of season two, Mr. Poopybutthole said Rick and Morty season 3 wouldn't happen for another year and a half... so March 2017. Dan Harmon, it seems, isn't going to listen to Mr. Poopybutthole. The co-creator teased the premiere date during a panel at Magic City Comic Con, stating that they're "targeting around the end of this year." so... possibly this December?
