7 Midsize Cars CRASH TESTS (2023) | Accord, Camry, Altima, K5, Sonata, Jetta & Outback

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Honda Accord outperformed other midsize cars in the updated moderate overlap front crash test, earning a rare good rating in the new, challenging evaluation focused on rear-seat protection.
Among the other six midsize cars tested, the Subaru Outback earns an acceptable rating. The Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry are rated marginal. The Hyundai Sonata, Kia K5 and Volkswagen Jetta are rated poor.
All seven midsize cars provided good protection in the front seat. However, measurements indicated a slightly higher risk of injuries to the right leg or foot of the driver in the good-rated Accord.
The Accord provided stellar protection in the back seat. Measurements taken from the rear dummy showed no heightened risk of injuries, and the rear restraints did a good job controlling the dummy’s motion.
In contrast, submarining was a problem for the poor-rated K5 and Sonata, while in the Jetta the rear passenger’s head came too close to the front seatback. In all three poor-rated cars, measurements taken from the rear dummy indicated likely injuries to the head or neck and chest and excessive belt forces. In the K5 and Sonata, the rear shoulder belt also moved off the shoulder toward the neck.
In both the marginal-rated Altima and Camry, the rear dummy submarined beneath the lap belt, and the shoulder belt moved off the shoulder toward the dummy’s neck. In the Altima, injury measurements also indicated a moderate risk of head or neck injuries for the rear passenger.
Measurements taken from the rear dummy in the acceptable-rated Outback didn’t show any elevated injury risks.
However, the dummy submarined beneath the lap belt, and its head came close to the front seatback during the crash, increasing the likelihood of abdominal and head injuries. After impact, the dummy’s head also slipped between the side curtain airbag and contacted the rear window door trim as the dummy rebounded.

Don't understand the ratings at all. He explains them at the end of the video, suggest you watch that first. Then in the Subi Outback test the kid in the back; head goes under the airbag, smashes into the window, and bouncing around at angles in the seatbelt and it was rated "Acceptable". The Honda Accord the kid smashes his head against the roof.? What? Seriously. They forgot to put paint on the back of the head. LOL. The Nissan looked the sweetest of the lot, IMO, with the rear seatbelt tensioning and less movement and it gets Marginal. Even the Sonata and Kia looked better than the Subi..... Wacking your head against an airbag is not the same as a window frame. Hmmm, interesting.

I agree to me it looked like the Nissan Altima did the best on control and movement and where the head hit. The Subaru looked awful??? I know they base it on forces and injuries but wow. The Accord did look good too so I would say the Honda Accord and Nissan Altima looked the best from observing the video. But what do I know lol just by watching.

Not surprised with Honda being on top. I use to work for Honda in upper management. Honda employs hundreds of people who’s only job is to ensure the best safety rating prior to releasing any new model. These people make 6 figures per year and really take their job seriously.

I'm surprised that the Toyota Camry's rear window shattered in a (Frontal) crash & that the front windshield didn't...???

No real surprise here … Korean manufacturers Hyundai and Kia are not only unreliable but they are unsafe to rear passengers.

So Jetta is a midsize, yet the Civic which is larger, is considered a compact here.

40 mph is low speed....they should do the tests at a higher speed, being more realistic at the speed that cars travel on the roads.....these tests are very inefficient.

If you crash into a solid object at 60mph you're dead. Even if you dress like Superman. 40 mph would be a good breaking speed for impact in my opinion.

Biased methodology. Hitting head on the airbag is rated worse than hitting the roof or side window on this test.
