7 Male Lions | A New Coalition Rises | Lion Sands | South Africa | Kruger National Park

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

A new group of seven male lions has made landfall at Lion Sands, spending most of their time on the Kruger National Park side. The coalition of seven is made up of six Nkuhlu males and one Delaporte male.
These males have already made a name for themselves by killing one of the lionesses from the Sand River pride and feeding on her. This is an uncommon occurrence in the animal kingdom, but not unfamiliar to us, as the Mapogo coalition was well-known for doing the same.
They have ventured into the Sabi Sand and encountered the Gijima Male Coalition. For now, the Gijimas stand strong, but it will be an interesting time for lion dynamics in the Sabi Sand and Southern Kruger if these males stick together.

Well, This information is sadly.. already out of date. It's very possible that Dreadlocks (the Delaporte male) was killed yesterday, when the Southern Avocas attacked 4 of the Khulu's and Dreadlocks. The kids ran, and left Dreadlocks to his fate. It's also reported that 2 of the Nkhulu's are sickly. Still.. A 4 strong coalition when they mature a bit more could be impressive.

Yes, there are no dominant coalitions of more than 2 anymore, but there are the Nkuhumas and Kambula males--who should all go into KNP for genetic reasons. The Nkhulus seem fairly unrelated to Sabi Sands lionesses, but I wish they would leave things alone for a while. The Sand River pride would be a logical choice, but we've seen what recently happened--SAvocas are not ready to completely give up the pride yet. But 4 is still more than 2, it might be a matter of time, takeovers can take time.

I hope humans do not interfere with their shoulds and coulds at all but only invest in stopping poaching, wild life trafficking, ego hunting and coming up with out of the box solutions to put safe boundaries for wildlife not to be venturing out of the parks where humans are and working with all neighboring countries to extend wildlife territories and protection and curb corruption. Wild life and nature will take care of genetic diversity just fine. Also, I remember you, you said you will show Tyno BBoy healthy and vibrant post 7/2021 but have not shared. What happened?

Also two Southern Avocas over the age of 10 who are pride males of the Sand River pride have returned and vehemently protected their pride and kids, pursued the Nkhulus who quickly dispersed and they caught and fatally injured Dresdlocks Delaporte who was the only lion out of the 4 that ironically did not kill and ate the Sandriver lioness although I am sure would like to have taken over the pride. Kidos to the brave and confident defenders who commonly also would be called by guides as not being in their prime although there are plenty older lions who sire many generations of cubs all the way to 13, 14, 15 years of age and lionesses so inconsistent with text book narratives in these videos.

It would be nice to learn more information about Dreadlocks DeLaporte. He is famous historically for being in unrelated coalition of 4 males - the unique and phenomenal journey of other 3 males with whom he formed a Delaporte coalition is more known - Hilda's Rock male, the last of Tsalala males Three Tooth, and one of the Talamati males. Out the 4 males I know the least about Dreadlocks but he was the only one who survived and formed new coalition with these initially 9 Nkahulu youngsters and became their leader - being the oldest. Other than reading that he was born circa 2014, maybe 5th missing jock male that was seen with unrelated Matiba sired Talamati male in 2018 in Jock area, I could not find more info but hoping someone will share so we can learn more.

From what I observed from following daily video lives of leos in the wild, killing of mature lionesses as well as female subadults during take overs and other cubs is not that uncommon, including the male lions who take the fall and the new coalition of lions sometimes eat them. What I do observe to be common, however, is that guides and humans narrating always follow description of this behavior with statement that this is unusual. Considering people don’t observe all wild behavior and takeovers of lions / this means this happens even more frequently. Even lionesses are seen eating their cubs although they fought ferociously to save them. In males, this frequently seems to happen when becoming territorial with surging testosterone coupled with fight or flight responses as they become extraordinarily aggressive (that is what gives then the survival edge where they luck experience) but when they are in a coalition that aggression multiplies exponentially with each added coalition member and can become like mob mentality (humans, birds, and many other animals have it) and risk of male lion not only being killed but eaten as well the lionesses being killed and sometimes eaten because they all want to mate with her and the poor thing has no time to accommodate all that aggression and if she stands up against them to allow time for subs to escape this it blows up. Majingilene coallition and others did it, even mature males like Orpen male when Koppi pride lionesses got killed by his second pride lionesses who were following them and it lead to extinction of the pride. Lions climbing trees is another example - they do it all the time although are sure awkward getting down and I am sure there are unfortunately many instances where lions injure their hips, ankles, and paws and these injuries are observed later in life. I am not defending the behaviors but find it so odd that after years of watching in all videos it keeps being repeated and emphasized that it is unusual.

@@futureisyours3016 Lions are no different than humans when conquering new lands and taking over new countries/territories. Humans normally don't eat other humans; but have no issue slaughtering men, women, and children on a mass scale during a 'takeover'. At least lions don't kill most of the pride since their goal is to continue their legacy with the pride. Humans have no issues slaughtering everyone in sight, since their goal is to take over the land and not "the people". Humans are MUCH more sadistic than lions could ever dream of being.
