You guys always on point when it comes to differences. As I’ve mentioned before I’ve lived in both countries. I agree when it comes to convenience in terms of online shopping and delivery America wins. And when it comes to safety as much as they portray SA as a dangerous country I also feel America is more dangerous. Why ?. Mass shootings at churches, malls, concerts, and the one that drives me crazy is Mass shootings in schools, that doesn’t happen in South Africa, kids are safer in SA schools. Someone actually made a good point saying they should compare city by city instead of countries, then people will realize how dangerous America is.

takealot has gotten really good with delivery and variety of items. still not as much variety as something like Amazon and it takes a while for the prices to actually match the market(at least in the case of pc parts but in that case using something like wootware or eve tech is much better and they deliver within 3 days if they have it in stock or about a week if it's in stock with the supplier)

There's no way American can be safer with those pathetic gun laws. How can they allow someone to walk to a gun shop and just buy guns like they're buying snacks. Obviously there will be many senseless killings and mass shootings. Some people are not sane enough to own any gun. There should be stricter gun laws. But obviously the Republicans don't want that... for obvious reasons. 🤦‍♂️

America's houses are mostly made out of wood. I have seen some while ago when I visited US. In SA house are made of bricks. The downside is that brick houses use lot of materials and sometimes can get cracks if the brick layers were terrible. However, SA has very good building engineers who will always make sure that your house will be strong.and can stand any weather.

Uhmmm... I tend to disagree. South Africa is dangerous, stating otherwise is not wise. Go walk down the street at night, see if you get to your destination safe. We just have security companies like ADT, alarm systems, high walls with motorized gates, AI driven security cameras, double burglar bars and security gates inside the house. Even then they break in, and sometimes... that goes very, very ugly.. And not to talk about the farm situation. My grandfather was murdered on a farm, and I personally know of farm attacks of people that I know. If you could remove the criminal element, greatest country on earth

Yep, here is SA we are strict when it comes to guns. If you work with them, you have to go for firearm competency every year. You can own a gun but not have it on your person. You have to have it stored in a safe at all times. Chances are that here, if a crime was committed with a firearm, it was either with a stolen one or with a toy gun.

Weather: South Africa does have diverse weather Cape Town eastern Cape, free state etc etc snows every year. Areas like Limpopo and up north gets as hot as Texas. Yes we do have ski resorts. Local foods don’t only consist of pap and meat. There are restaurants in santon and areas a like that can give you the experience of local food in a western palletable way oorrr get to know your locals or loyal subs to show you around and give you the local cuisine experience. I appreciate your perspective, but should have been titled as things we’ve noticed “so far” or something. I hope you’ll make an updated video in the future

Wow, it was seriously cool watching this video. Y'all really did a great job editing it and explaining the differences between the USA and South Africa in a super detailed and interesting way. I've got some thoughts to throw in too. So, the USA and South Africa even though we're on opposite sides of the world and have totally different cultures we've both been through a lot. Our histories have shaped where we are now. In the US there's that whole colonization thing, the American Revolution, and the Civil War that have had a big impact on who they are and how they run things. On the flip side here in South Africa we've dealt with colonialism, apartheid and the fight for freedom which has left a mark on our politics and society. Our political systems are like night and day. The USA has this federal republic thing with a president in charge and it's all about constitutional democracy and power sharing between the feds and the states. Meanwhile in South Africa we've got a parliamentary republic and a bunch of political parties. We moved from apartheid to democracy in the '90s, with the ANC playing a major role. Now both of these countries are known for being super diverse but the way they do it is different. The US is often called a "melting pot" with all kinds of cultures and backgrounds coming together to make the American identity. In South Africa our diversity comes from the many different ethnic groups like Zulu, Xhosa, Sotho, Tsonga and more. Apartheid left a unique mix of cultures, languages and traditions. Language is a big deal for identity in both places. The US, even though English is the main language is like a language buffet with Spanish, Chinese and more. It's a reflection of their immigrant history. Here In South Africa language was a powerful tool in the struggle for our identity. We've got 12 official languages to show off our multicultural society. Economic disparities are a thing in both countries but they're driven by different stuff. In the US income inequality is a hot topic and things like race, education and where you live can make a big difference. Over here in South Africa it's all about dealing with the legacy of apartheid which left racial inequalities in wealth and opportunities. We're trying to fix that with affirmative action. Our social issues like healthcare, education and race relations are complicated in both places. In the US healthcare is a big debate with arguments about how it's set up and if it's affordable. South Africa is in a similar boat with healthcare disparities linked to our history. And race relations are a big deal for both of us although the details are different because of our unique histories.

As a 55 year old that has travelled extensively and lived in the uk for a short while, it is very hard to compare costs of living because it depends on your earning capacity - ie if you are earning in $ or € or £ - and living in SA then it will look extremely cheap, however earning in Rands the cost of living can be very high for the majority of low income earners in SA. I have been watching NBC news every morning for the last 3 years (only because it makes me realize its not better anywhere in the world- there is problems all over - so it helps me to be more appreciative of what i have here dispite all the corruption and failing gov functions, and we can come together as a nation like no other when it comes to Rugby 😅😅😅)

As South Africans we have to be proactive citizens, and stop complaining to everybody and anybody who will listen to our nagging or complaining. African Americans who come to Africa or South Africa are on their own mission. It is good to interact and share our experiences and perspectives with them. But PLEASE, PLEASE stop complaining to them about your problems or South African problems, they have their own. There is a big difference between sharing your experiences and complaining about your problems. You shared your experiences in the first part of your message, but complained in the last part. I know I am being hard on you, and you are not the only one with this tendency. I am just frustrated by South Africans who like complaining instead of finding solutions to problems. The truth of the matter is, South African citizens are no better than the government, they are also part of the problem.

I am sorry for the harsh message, I am really gutvol about everyone who keeps saying "we have a corrupt government, we have corrupt police etc" but fail to see how citizens are part of this problem. The very citizens who can stop this, like complaining for the sake of complaining, instead of doing something about it. It's like a woman complaining to a visitor or stranger about her husband or her children. Talk to your husband or children, if that fails seek counseling. A counselor will probably tell you that you are also part of the problem.

We always say we have a failing state, but fail to say thousands and thousands of us are stealing from the state through illegal connections, copper thefts, burning of public assets etc. We always say police are not dealing effectively with crime, but fail to say we are not raising our children properly. We always expect government to do everything, but fail to do our part. South African citizens have a horrible sense of entitlement, which is matched by the government officials.

ok, about air quality, well, jet engines release hot air, like very hot air, and when that mixes with very cold air up at 36k ft, that produces what you see when jets fly .. it's just that most flight around the Jhb area fly low as they come into land at the 3 main airports, and there are very few flights flying over Jhb at over 10k ft even, so a rare sight basically.. but you're generally right, the air quality in Sandton is better than in NYC which is coastal while Jhb is inland and closer to major coal mine power plants, but remember, Jhb has a lot of trees that are intentionally planted to improve air quality such as the Jacaranda tree and a few others too.. enjoy your stay though. . I haven't seen you react or put out something about CITs, which happen everyday, yeah, we're used to it and all, but maybe put out something like that , having read many of other people's comments, who actually wanna put SA in negative light, maybe indulge them a lil.. there's a guy you had interviews with, I think they live in Kenya, it was quite a long one, he also interviewed another guy who claims to be SAn and was making comments on xenophobia, that guy ain't SAn at all.. but anyway, it is what it is.. he said SAns are lazy, forgetting and ignoring the basic fact that we built this country from the bottom up, and due to influence of illegal immigrants and accepting very low wages, they crowd out the labour market.. same in the US, latin Americans basically accept very low wages and what used to be decent wages for particular jobs for low skilled natural Americans now has low labour rates, that doesn't mean Americans are lazy, it means Americans won't accept unduly low wages , same issue here. SAns aren't lazy..

When you live in the rural outskirts of the country (I grew up in rural EC) you will definitely see the contrails caused by jet engines. But in big cities like JHB you almost never see it and your explanation does make it make sense.

Further more; I think me and a whole lot more South Africans, are pleased and grateful that your family found comfort here. There's a lot more to explore, like our rural communities and the inlands of Southy.

Just a comment on the rent and food, and costs and housing. You cant compare it to USD. Not only is the currency diffent, and things are valued differently, our people also get payed less. Trust me living here is not cheap when you look at what we're getting. Thats true for minimum wage althe way up to engineers. Things that are considered necessities accross the sea is convemience items here. Paper towels, disposable items, wipes, takeout, processed meals and even diapers are just not optional. We make our food simply from raw ingredients and use things that are reusable.

Y’all are among many pioneers for the African diaspora as a whole in bringing us all together. Movements like these will be remembered in history and kids will learn about the era of the Great Pan African Return. Our enslaved ancestors wished they could’ve gone back. Y’all are taking the spirit of the ancestors with you returning them home. I’m American African. I’ve yet to have gone to an African country and I’ve been entertaining the thought of moving and living in a African country (Calabar, Nigeria. Kigali, Rwanda, Capetown SA, Senegal, Cabo Verde)…I’m just learning and understanding so I am removed from opinion and become more familiar to the countries through you guys🫶🏾💚🖤❤️

Good comments. Honestly, I think the window is closing on being able to have a CHOICE on moving about freely. Things are getting more and more tense here in the matrix! That is why we are moving sight unseen, just trusting God, because I believe if we wait until things get crazier it will be too late. Look at Covid, they restricted people from going anywhere, and that could happen again.

Trevor noah said something once a bit like this: I'm no longer under the delusion that America is one big country. America is a collection of small countries that just share governance. Obviously I've never been there, but it makes sense. If you compare the average country size, it matches the average state size. Each state, from what I understand, has its own sense of culture and identity. In many cases states even have their own laws. It's kind of interesting like that, but also means comparisons with average size countries are not on par. It should be a state versus country comparison, if that makes sense. Either way I was appreciating the fact that we don't share American gun culture in my country just last week. We have crime. We have a lot of it. Guns are used - but a lot of the time as a deterrent more than a weapon. The average person on the street does not own a gun, because it isn't part of our culture to randomly own guns. If you hunt, u probably keep some rifles in a lock box. If you're paranoid due to bad experiences, u maybe keep a pistol in a gun safe. You don't carry them on you. I think that fact on its own makes a big difference. You need a permit to own them. While the gun laws in SA are not super strongly enforced, and most criminals who use guns wouldn't care if they were, the fact is gun culture isn't really a part of SA identity - and I really, deeply appreciate that fact. Hearing you guys say it again just reaffirms it again. So grateful for that. Grateful I can approach a farm or property with out fear of shoot first, ask questions later. Glad I can walk in the street without madmen snipers being the mainstay. Glad I can go shopping etc and not live in fear of encountering a mad gun man. Yes, crime exists and guns are used, but nothing like what I see in reports coming from the states 😅

Electricity in SA used to be stable and is not long ago. We used to enjoy 24hrs electricity without interruptions or cut. The ANC was told by engineers to start increasing capacity by building new power stations because the population in housing were on the increase. The turned a deaf ear and paid back heavily. We'll I have read that the Turkish Karpowerships are coming to SA and will help to alleviate the impacts of loadshedding. The only challenge is that environmental pressure groups have taken the government to count to force it to reject Karpowerships as they were posing danger to the marine life.

Funny, once upon a time I was looking at Ghana, then SA, then KENYA, now I'm looking at SA again. Its getting closer to the time when we'll be making the trip. We are NOT taking a trip to try things out. I have been researching AFRICA as a place to relocate since 2018. I truly feel called to move home, still I believe we'll end up in Johannesburg as well. We'd like to farm and grow our own food, kind of got in that mindset here is the U.S. because they are talking crazy stuff may happen in the fall of 2024, and we aren't interested in dealing with that. Hopefully SA is a place for families, not crazy about living around ESSAU again, but it is what it is...

those are not "chem trails", they are condensation trails that happen when a plane is very high up and the exterior of the plane gets cold enough for water clouds to form around it (like clouds form on mountain peaks). The reason why you don't (often) see it in SA, is because our cities are at the end of international flight routes; so planes rarely, if ever, fly over populated areas at that altitude.
