A good example that I see is that some people put so many jump cuts in their videos to avoid little mistakes in their language that the video looks terrible. Let the people make a couple of mistakes trying to express themselves, they look more human.

I just want to say.. these aren't broken rules. This is filmmaking 101 in general. A lot of people do get caught up chasing every extravagant rig, and film set, and following the most expensive trends. THIS right here is how the magic of cinematography comes together. Hollywood is a reference point of course, but the entire world we live in is the real reference. Great work man.

Thanks Sean....you pretty much answered what I have been thinking over the last year.. (and I've been doing a channel for 4 years now) and that is, understand the basics,understand the rules, know why they are there, and throw them out the window. I tell u what...the firstvfew years I tried to do everything by the book and it made filming a hiking video miserable and took for ever, and the videos were not that good. This last year I said the heck with it and just shot however I wanted to shoot. Sometimes, I followed the rules alot of times I didn't and the videos came out much better and my hiking was fun. Thanks for teaching us and putting in all the hard work. Have a merry awesome Christmas and rock the 2024 new year! You are appreciated my friend.

I was very good at doing the first one accidentally when my main camera was the gh5 lol

Another tip I am learning from you - shutter speed at double the frame rate. I'll have to play with the settings for that I believe, but I will do it. Thank you.

Started doing the first trick from I started photography as a hobby. Did a similar shot accidentally with a few friends and it was one of the most amazing shots I've taken thus far. A lot of the rules are really just there to help you understand the tools at your disposal. How I viewed this from the start (i only started a few months earlier) is that there are no rules, just tips and tools at getting the image YOU want. Whether its the flattest/dynamic/underoverperfectlyexposed(lol)/in focus/out of focus/interesting /boring/BLAHBLAH" shot as long as you are able to do the things needed to control the shot enough to get the result you want....THAT'S THE SKILL...that is it.
