For me, Josh is just the best online bass teacher. I was on the BaseBuzz course about a year ago and I enjoyed every minute of it. It was just like having a (hilarious) friend who's teaching and motivating you all the time. I attended several courses (bass and guitar) but this one was by far the best. Haven't had so much fun learning since. Wish he would start another bass or guitar course. Highly recommended. Greetings from Hamburg!

I agree. I was watching his videos kind of out of boredom last January while on a business trip. I didn’t have a bass and only had played the drums many years ago. And now I’m pretty baffled at how far I’ve gotten. He’s super chill and doesn’t have any habits I’d consider annoying.

Josh continues to deliver. All I can say is - DO IT! I picked up the bass for the first time (at age 62) just after New Years 2022 and began the Beginner to Badass journey one year ago this week! I really enjoyed it, played 30-45 minutes every day and worked through most of the course in a couple of months. Folks at church asked me to try out for worship team training shortly thereafter. After 4 months of practicing with the team every Thursday evening (with a great bass mentor coaching me between songs), I was on stage playing full services. I will be paying it forward this year coaching our newest bass player on the team. I'm on the schedule to be on stage 5 events this month and loving it. No way I could have done it that quickly and capably without the excellent, engaging and fun way Josh teaches you the bass (plus of course, lots of time practicing and regularly playing with other musicians and vocalists).

Josh, I just wanted to share something awesome with you. I started taking bass lessons with an instructor locally (after finishing your beginner to bad ass course a few months back) and today was my first lesson. He had me do some some scale exercises to see my technique and he said, "I have the exact opposite problem that most of his students have and that I use my pinky a lot, almost too much." And I'm like GODDAMN RIGHT I DO! :D

Since the dawn of time humans have searched for the greatest bass lesson of all time. They have searched for a bass lesson that combines everything the beginner bass player needs...and this is it! BUT SERIOUSLY, this is a great concept for a lesson, because it can used over an over, expanded into the details, or used as an overview. It's an excellent intro or refresher for relative noobs like me. A thousand thanks to Josh for this great content. Rock on! (Back to my brutal slap bass practice!)

I've badly played for half of that time, including in studios and in churches around the world. I always knew that I was able to play okay but wasn't doing anything structured. So I eventually quit because other players seemed to have it locked in. Just watching Josh's videos since the end of 2022 rekindled my desire to play again and so I'm heading straight to the course. Not sure which one is best for someone like me but I'll figure it out! Best of luck with your bass adventure 👍🏼

Same boat, kind of; I'm 57 and have been a guitar player on and off for the past 40+ years. I never got much good at it, but last year got inspired to finally put some real effort into learning to be better. Then I saw one of Josh's bass videos almost by accident, and realized I want to expand into playing bass as well! So now I'm working on both at the same time, and I love it!

i took his course as an absolute beginner (i played clarinet in the 4th grade, i don't think that really counts though) and it gave me a really nice foundation to be able to teach myself songs. i'm not usually a believer in online courses but I knew that he knew how to teach people when i saw that fretboard video he made, I was pretty sold @ that point and I'm glad I did it. i look at the course now like it's a tool and I believe it saved me a LOT of money. Without the course I probably would've given up i highly recommend.

hey josh! i commented a couple of weeks ago on your tone video (and have since been cutting my nails every week, though i miss them it makes everything better) but i wanted to say that i have improved immensely and learned a lot thanks to you. i'm halfway through the course and even when i am tired and stressed, i come back to it excited to play everyday. it's taken me a bit longer because i'm a bit too perfectionistic but when you encourage us to keep going in the course, and not be so bogged down/to have fun, it is very helpful. anyway, i wanted to say-like other commenters-your course is really helpful (and also thank you for the payment plan option!) you have helped me really enjoy playing and i don't think i would be where i am nor enjoy bass without the course. to slowly learn to read and understand music, learn how to listen, and hone and create skills in a fun, manageable, not stressful way is invaluable. also being introduced to so much new amazing music! and the comment section is extremely helpful. i'm sure your younger students really appreciate it, we need more teachers like you. i love playing a lot and i'm so happy i picked it up and i'm also exposed to different types of teachers too-i'm learning bassists are pretty cool! also maybe its' cos i'm older but u make me laugh. these shorter form videos are suuuuuper helpful too. so accessible! hope you're having a good week! thanks for helping all of us

Just my own quick interjection on the "Day 5" portion: Sight reading sheet music is a blessing and a curse: Everything you need to play a piece is there, and there is so much beautiful music in sheet. But too much time relying on it can cripple you creatively. When I was actively playing (for 18 or so years), I could sight read anything, but take away the paper, and I just couldn't get my mind around the idea of improvisation... brain went blank, and my bass (which I played for years) felt like a completely alien thing. Took me years to understand why and undo the bad habits that over reliance on sheet music can cause. Learn to read the sheet, but don't let it become a crutch. This video series has, and indeed this channel, reinvigorated my will and desire to pick up my axe again!

I have played guitar for 30+ years, semi seriously (in an amateur sense) since the late ‘90s, but had only dabbled at bass. I recently bought a Fender Jazz bass and committed myself to actually learning. I just wanted to say that your videos are amazing, Josh. You are the teacher I wish I had - I will be buying your course, because it’s obvious what a resource it will be be just from watching videos like this. You are one of the best music instructors I have ever seen, and at the same time your videos are hilarious and entertaining. I don’t know if you edit these yourself, or if someone else does that, but kudos. I usually laugh out loud more than once while watching.

Hey Josh. I know this lesson was a wee bit ago. But not as long as my first steps with the bass (1986 or 87). What and how you explain is just great. I would have wished for a teacher like you when I was 17 years old. You can still learn something even as an old fart. I came across your videos because I'm trying to teach someone how to play bass. But since I have neither the patience nor the drive, I'll take your videos. Thank you.

I’m over 2/3 though B2B and I love it. But I also love all these other videos Josh provides, as they almost always give me an “A Ha…” moment. Thanks for taking the time to craft your instruction so thoughtfully. I’ve yet to find another online instructor (and I’ve reviewed all the usual suspects) who manages to inspire and educate so well! 🤘😎

I just wanted to thank you.. I started to play Bass in High school in mid 80's.. Yes, I'm old but got to see all the cool bands! Continued to play all the way to the early 2000's then life took over getting married, career then eventually kid's which left me with no more time for anything. I put away all my old equipment in the closet for the next 20+ years. My daughter joined her High School choir and asked if she can get an acoustic guitar this past Christmas so she can learn how to play & join guitar class next year. That just brought something out of me & for the past few weeks I've been pulling out all my old equipment out of my son's closet. I discovered your channel looking at reviews for a small practice bass amp since I have an old Carvin 150 Amp with cabinet but it takes up too much room and too heavy. Saw your reviews on the Fender Rumble amps BUT discovered so much more in your channel. You are the best online bass teacher and make it simple for beginners or even old guys like me who haven't picked up a bass in 20+ years.. For the past few days I've been going through your video's and subscribed to your channel. Thank you

I am on module 5 of this course and it really works! I have tried other online bass courses that leave you to learn songs on your own and then come back to the course when you have leanrned it. This is very different, Josh takes you through everything, step by step, pointing out the common mistakes in a fun and entertaining way. I'm really enjoying my time learning the bass, even the Billy Jean workouts!
