I only counted 5 tips, but I was busy trimming my eyebrows :D 1. Outdated clothing styles -jeans with rhinestones -get classic, tailor fit, dark wash jeans -flashing button up shirts with contrasting cuffs -get small dots or small checks, or dark solid colors 2. Not getting skin care (cue Ad) 3. Outdated style shoes, shoes for wrong occasion -no square toes -shiny dress shoes & jeans don't match well 4. Gray hair and grooming -embrace the gray hair, dyeing is too obvious -purple shampoo cancels out the yellow of gray -address wild hairs in nose and brows 5. Having an old man attitude -resisting change, new technology -stop saying "back in my day..." -open your mind and try to accept some new things

Yup, no doubt. I had a beard when I was younger. My wife liked it. When I got older it turned white. My wife begged my kids to ask me to shave it. One daughter told me I looked ten years older. So, I'm done with facial hair.

Yes -- after 25-30 years with a beard, I shaved it off at about age 68. I don't like grey hair on my face. Mustache would probably go, too, except it covers an upper lip scar. Yet, I have a friend 70+ whose white well-trimmed beard and hair look great. He looks his age, but with an air of being distinguished.

I'm 62 and wear the same thing I've been wearing since my teens: Colored T-shirts, jeans and boots. I look younger though, and weigh only 5 lbs more than I did in HS. Not doing skin care though! I've worked outside most of my life, and my skin is still smooth and rather soft. (Yeah, embrace your gray..but use some crap to get rid of the lines by your eyes.... A little disingenuous there?). And screw what's in style. I purposely refuse to wear anything that's in style. My style is timeless and classic.

Completely agree with what you've said. I am 62 but lucky enough to be average height, slim build and still have the majority of my hair. So what i hear you ask? It means I look after myself, wear good clothes, slim fit trousers, look after my heart, physique, eat a balanced diet etc. A lot of my friends of the same age have given up on themselves, are overweight, drink too much, wear clothes that are twenty years old, don't look after their fitness, have joint issues etc. These are the men that become old before their time and it's simply that they can't be bothered anymore. Sad but a fact of life. I'm from the uk and love your vlogs, keep up the good work.

  • @RevelsCat

I agree with most of what you say about looking after yourself. Joint issues can become a problem as we age especially if you have been doing hard physical work when younger. (knee and shoulder) I`m 67 and cannot run anymore so I walk instead and use light weights. Of course our bodies and minds deteriorate as we age the trick is to see this as a challenge not a hindrance. The real test comes in your seventies. I laugh when I hear young youtubers give older people advice it used to be the opposite lol.

One need not be a regimented exercise freak to remain in good shape. It helps enormously if, in your teens thru early thirties, you made an effort to be in good enough shape to play sports. That carries thru well into your sixties, typically because you maintain most of the habits. You continue to stay in shape, continue to not eat crap food, continue to not need medications. All those things make a significant difference in how you look, in how you act.

Richard Petty has a lifetime of accomplishment in a demanding, dangerous field. Undoubtedly his charisma is at work, and his style is from the inside out, not applied on the surface. I think a man who knows who he is has immense power and what he chooses to wear expresses it. The presenter is talking about guys who aren’t accomplished or charismatic, and must pretend to be something they’re not.

I’m 55 too but look younger. You would look younger if you shaved off your beard and dyed your hair. I don’t have as much gray as you but I use a little bit of coloring in my hair/beard makes a big difference. I still have plenty of gray so it looks natural but plenty of color too so more salt and pepper than just salt. Use the kind you leave in for a few minutes and rinse out completely for a natural look. Don’t use paint on shoe polish like hair color.

I'm glad to mentioned nose and ear hair. It definitely makes a man look older. Another old man mistake is going too long between visits to the barber. If you spot someone whose haircut makes him look great, ask who he goes to. Nothing is more awful than twisting long eyebrow hairs into a sort of spike. Having or skipping face hair should be judged by someone you trust and not just anyone. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Chin hair never does. Jeans are another point. Baggy is so out. Snug, not tight is ideal. No need to spend a lot either for good ones. Wrangler makes some good choices without breaking the bank. Worn out undershirts, especially the collar, belong in the rag bag.

  • @theoldman947

I forgot to add this: cargo, cammo pants, and short pants especially wide ones are definitely out. So are gigantic tee shirts that hang below the hip. If you got a belly, skip golf shirts.

One thing you didn't touch on, and perhaps you did/will do in other videos is staying physically fit. There's no worse giveaway than hearing someone grunt whenever they get up out of a chair. I'm 70 now and have been blessed with good genes and without prompting people will think I'm ten or fifteen years younger. My response is usually that although I may be that old that I don't act my age. It's true too in that I still energetic and maintain a very positive yet realistic attitude. I'm active in that I ride my bicycle 30 miles every weekend that I can and will workout a couple times a week with my resistance bands at home, and use the treadmill instead of the bike if the weather sucks. I'm a widower who's still working full time and am about to enter into a relationship with a much younger woman. I still have my hair which is silver and keep it longish, and my hair dresser always complains about how much hair she has to sweep up after cutting it. The other thing about health is make sure you get a full physical every year and if a problem surfaces, deal with it!

One thing that I found helped my mindset stay younger was listening to contemporary popular music. For example when driving, put on the station that is aimed at people in their 20s. That usually has all the modern chart music that most people stop listening to once they hit 30s (I'm in my 40s). You don't have to like all the music, but it keeps you on the pulse.

I think it is worth pointing out that your title implies that looking older is a bad thing.... that ain't always the case. Some classic styles (i.e. my 30 year old Barker Derby brogues) look better as you age and is quite nice to hear the Mrs and her sisters saying my "silver fox hair" suits me better than the brown when we first met many years ago....like a good scotch and Susanna Hoffs, somethings improve with age!!

Dudes got it all wrong I for one am embracing my inner old man grump personality! I like my three inch eyebrows, gives me something to twirl. My Levis and shirts all predate the rhinestone and loud shirts with drivel written all over so i'm always in style! On a serious note the trimming and maintenance becomes a choir with old age for I am no longer just trimming the hair in my nose I am also trimming the hair growing off my nose. As the hair from my scalp recedes hair intensifies from other parts of the body to equal out. Its nuts getting old but this dudes got it right and i'm trying to work on my old man set in his ways personality that appears to get worse every year. ☮

I have a beard, for a couple of reasons, I have no hair on my head and I really don’t have much of a jawline. I just turned 61 & yes my beard is turning gray. I don’t want to shave it, because I have a boyish face and I look really strange. I make up for all of that by dressing nice. I always wear a sport coat when my wife & I go out, I always try to be the best dressed man in the room, which is not hard where I live, plus I love clothes.

Interesting comments on fashion. In the UK street fashion hasn't changed in over 20 years. Any person not wearing a suit will be in blue jeans and a dark t-shirt, and this has been the look since the mid 1990s. Street fashion used to be driven by trends in pop music, but now that industry has become sterile and homogenous, so has fashion

My hair (what there is left of it) is mostly grey now. I have a bald patch and I find that it doesn’t take my hair to grow very much at all to make the bald patch more obvious, so I got an electric rotary hair razor and now I keep it very short all over. I miss having dark hair though, but it doesn’t get me down. I’ve compensated for it by dressing smartly with the best quality Harris tweed jackets, wool trousers, shirts etc that I can afford. I always wear my shoes with a mirror shine before leaving the house. I find that people most often treat me with respect when I’m smartly dressed. My favourite garment is an 80% wool and 20% alpaca jet black overcoat for the winter. It’s reassuringly heavy but absolutely superb and so soft to the touch (ladies love stroking it 😁😁).

I’ve watched many of your show videos , but think a recap video would be great, and update where it makes sense. One thing I’ve love to see added is pointing out brands that actually offer the “wide” options. I’ve had a hell of a time finding classic sneakers in real leather that are offered in wide size, and going up 1/2 size to compensate has some issues for me. I still tend to write things down- it seems to help me remember more easily, but will also make notes on apps; and use phone calendar. My real old school persistence is still buying CDs and Blu Ray discs. I’ve had so many times in past of no internet at home and/or having a “download” corruput but not be available anymore that I just prefer having “hard copy”. I still stream stuff or do downloads, but like having my own copy that (with care of discs) won’t ever go away. :)

  • @dirtyace1668
    @dirtyace1668Ай бұрын

The first thing really that makes one look old is your actual natural physical appearance. By this, I mean it's not related to your dress style, but how your face, body, skin look. Things like drinking alcohol or smoking or eating poorly will make you look old faster than anything else. Live as healthy as possible, which doesn't require significant financial resources. It just requires persistency (desire, focus) and consistency (will power). Unfortunately, though, most people severely lack in these areas. Also, some will argue that they don't have the time. The answer to that, is that if it's truly important to you, then you will make time for it. That's it. No excuses.

I appreciate your video and especially your humble attitude when offering advice. I must be that grumpy old man because it isn't that important to me to look younger than I am. Obviously, I watched your video, but after doing so, I realized that I just don't care that people know how old I really am. I have always admired most older people and so I will either be accepted as being the age I am or I won't be accepted. I am not going to buy a new wardrobe and start pretending that I want to embrace every new fad so that I can remain "relevant" to the young crowd. They have their pluses and old people have our pluses. I do agree that we should not be condescending and dismissive of modernity. But I frankly do prefer the "Good Ole' Days" even though they weren't always that good. And one day, most of these young bucks laughing at us old men and women will be just like we are (if they're lucky) and they too will be missing the Good Ole Days. Aging is just simply a fact of life. I personally believe young people should embrace their stage of life and that older people should do the same. I hope these comments are taken as intended.

I am 54 and often get told 'you don't age,' ' haven't changed a bit,' 'don't look like you are in your 50's...' Back when I was 25 out of college I had a job calling on production facilities and would have really filthy, oily skin when I got home each evening. Every night and then after my morning shower I would apply Olay or Ponds after washing my face with a good quality facial soap... I would use those lotions mainly because my face would be so dry after washing and other lotions would burn when applied. I have continued to do this the past 29 years. Guess it has really helped as I don't have nearly the wrinkles other dudes my age (and younger) have on their face and neck.

If you wear Converse or Dr Martens you would probably associate them with a t-shirt, sneakers will go well with a polo, and black shoes are perfect with a shirt (and a black belt).
