If you don't mind learning to do most of your own maintenance, you can get a motorcycle for not that much more than a new bike these days. Especially, if you're willing to shop for parts at swap meets and trade work for parts. I forget which channel it was, but I saw one where they got all their necessary gear and the motorcycles for under $2k. And it may have been $1k. IIRC, it was the motorcyclist magazine channel.

He’s worn the helmet for a long time and maybe dropped it from his hand once or twice. I wear the shit out of this helmet for casual rides. I changed out the padding inside and got a new visor and the helmet is amazing, super vented, super light carbon fiber shell, I just love it.

I got a Shoei RF-1200 with a photochromatic lens as my first helmet. Yeah, I had to save up almost $600 but saved about $150 by not getting a helmet with graphics on it (went with matte black). It cost a lot but it's the only helmet I have/need. The lens changes tint based on the light so I never need to switch out visors plus it has a pinlock so it never fogs up. The vents and visor work well sitting straight up and in a tuck also. I ended up saving money in the long run by not needing to buy 4 different cheap helmets with 2 sets of light and dark visors. Plus comfort IS a part of safety. If you're comfortable then you pay more attention to the road and not to your discomfort.

Funny , I just bought my bike off of Craigslist. Suzuki Bandit 1100s . Pristine condition . Barely worn tires. Couldn't find a scratch on it . Best part? Got it for $1500 . All my buddy that have new/newer bikes said I "stole" it . So yeah , you CAN get a great deal on used if your patient and pay attention when looking a bike over .

I completely agree, do your own tire changes. It is so worth the savings doing them yourself and it’s relatively easy, especially if you use dyna beads to balance the tires (Which work great by the way).

I figured i just had to comment on buying a used bike. I grew up a car guy and let me tell you ALL of it transfers. If you want a cheap ass bike and it runs well, might be a good buy. Just depends on what you want. I know from the car game that projects are an endless abyss that you throw money down. If you want a project to have fun and make memories with this might be your best bet. I had an 09 Ninja 650 as my first bike that ran well but i put work into until i was satisfied. I broke even selling it to a friend. Fast forward 2 years later to now i got into riding again and bought a “running” 99 gsxr 600 for 800. About 400 bucks later runs phenomenally. If you love a fun project and have the know how, you can easily justify it.

Agree on the tires. I bought the tools needed to change them and my first new tire for less than it would have cost t have the shop put it on so the tools are paid for instantly. And the bike rides better with the discount tire from Amazon than it did with the OEM tire it had when I bought it.
