Awesome tips! I completely agree with almost all of your tips through my own personal experience. The only one I have not tried is the higher capacity 3rd party batteries. For just the price difference that is definitely worth a try. The tip that I concur with whole heartedly is the CAGE. You didn't (or forgot to) mention that one of the key benefits of this cage on the a6500 is that it acts as a heat-sink/heat-spreader to help dissipate the heat generated by this tiny and extremely powerful camera while shooting 4k video. At first I was disappointed that I had to use the CAGE, but now I can't live without it. My brother loves the look of the camera with the cage that he wishes he could find one for his older model NEX camera. The only problem with the cage (the same model that you show on your video) is that it prevents my Godox and Sony speedlight from mounting into the hot shoe. Is there such a thing as a hot shoe extender for the a6500?

Dude, you should not believe specifications on those generic chinese, off-brand batteries! Test the running time, instead of looking at fake number displayed as a capacity, because it is physically impossible for a battery that size and chemistry to have such large capacity. I have two of DSTE's batteries, and they last considerably SHORTER than original Sony batteries! This is why I tried Vivitar batteries, which also claim higher capacity (1200 mAh) than Sony original, but last shorter, although not as short as DSTE.

Yeah, I agree. I tried saving on cheaper batteries, including DSTE but I don't get a consistent experience. Sometimes, the battery will read %100 and then within a few minutes be down to a very low percentage. My Sonys are much better.

I recall a firmware update changed the temperature at which the overheating warning icon shows up but, bottom line, in normal outdoor shooting situations can the a6500 be relied on for documentary work even when in 4K?

  • @SilasWilloughby

Steve Crow The a6500 is much better in terms of overheating then the a6300, if you fold out the screen as much as you can away from the camera and go the menu and turn sensitivity to low you should be fine.

With wifi monitoring, you can't use picture profiles nor can you change some settings. I wish sony make the smart remote act as if the camera weren't in some special mode so you could change all the settings. As for clear image zoom, in my experience it degrades the quality very noticeably, more so the sharpness and if your shooting high iso, artifacts become more visible. I believe since the camera shoots 6k and downscales it to 4k, the clear image zoom is just lowering the base resolution so when you reach 2x, its a 1:1 4k readout.

Hey hey! I have a question. I'm reeeeaaally close to buying the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 as it combines lots of light with a nice amount of flexibility. The thing is I'm not really sure which adapter to choose. So this is a battle between Sony's LA EA3, the LA EA4 or the Sigma MC-11 and I'd be dying for some advice. Maybe you can recommend one of those for a certain reason or at least give me a hint. :) I'm using the a6500 and especially when I'm shooting wedding ceremonies (or any things where I don't have lots of time for set up or just don't want to be changing lenses every 10 minutes) the Sigma lens would be the loveliest thing to use. :) So what do you think, which one should I buy? Ooooor you might even upload a video about those adapters! :D Anyway.. cheers mate!

Oscar Hodges You can shoot up to 120 fps in 1080p, and while the 1080p is great it's not 4k.... but in terms of 1080p it's pretty standard

  • @matt_heinen

  • @Rashadmcka

    @Rashadmcka

    6 жыл бұрын

Matt Heinen although I don’t own an a6500, I’ve used it on a couple wedding shoots. To answer your question, yes, 1080p isn’t the greatest at all, sure you can sharpen it in post but not having detail still means not having detail. We shoot 4k when we can with that camera. If you can’t, I’ve heard (not sure though) that only shooting more shallow depth of field shots with it so the lack of detail is less noticeable. I guess by extension, trying to avoid focusing on tight pattern areas and small details may help make it as noticeably soft although I’ve never tried either method.

Jess- Una Familia Común In my view, the sigma 18-35 f/1.8 can't be beat. However, the kit lens can resolve a solid 1080 image, and cheaper options like Sigma's 30mm f1.4 can resolve all 24mp / 6K. Additionally, I've heard great things about the Sony 35mm f/1.8, but personally I would tend towards the Sony 28mm f/2 because it's FE format would make it more flexible down the line if you chose to go FF. Of course, if you prefer a wider angle or more telephoto there are other great options. Hard to say without knowing usage case scenario more specifically, but I tend towards normal and portrait length lenses myself, with a growing appreciation for wide angle lenses. I've made reviews of both the 30 f1.4 and 50-100 f/1.8 from sigma on my channel if those could be resources, but absolutely 0 pressure to check them out. Let me know how else I can be of service-I'm passionate about providing value.

Jess- Una Familia Común Both are really good, solid options! The best part of the 18-105 in my view is the all-internal zoom and focusing. Huge benefit to that imho

If you use clear image zoom I would imagine it will increase any movement that your IBS is trying to smooth out.

Hi Caleb, thank you so much for this 7 tips. I use the a6500 to shoot shorts woodworking video, but my problem is the light. Wich lens should I use for internal use? ( I'm waiting for 3 YN 300 youngnuo, hope they'll help me making my videos ) The only lens that I've for my camera is a 18-105 f4 G. Thank you again. Stefano from Sardinia,Italy

I'd get a decent zoom lens. Personally I use kit lenses that come with the camera all the time!

Sounds as if something like sigma's 18-35 f/1.8 could be useful, or buying lights. :) That's supposed to be a great lens, sorry that the f/4 is giving you a hard time :/

Thanks Joshua, yes I think my woodshoop needs more light. Sony lens are good, but to let them work well needs bright lights. I've the same problem with my canon m3. Bye!

Stefano il Falegname Stefano basta che usi un semplice adattatore da 10€ e un 50mm f1.4 manuale canon fd o minolta md, per il video sono luminosi e anche se perdi l'autofocus con il focus peaking puoi lavorare benissimo

I noticed a Canon lens? That works with no issues on the Sony?

DSTE? I thought Wasabi was the only 3rd party battery, and are crap. How's the battery life/quality of those DSTE batteries?

Am i right in thinking clear image zoom does not work with RAW files whilst taking pictures... It only seems to work with jpegs...Which is a shame
