    Thanks, very helpful. Your comments about setting up the Sony to be familiar to a Canon shooter hit home. I'm a Sony noob here, I am so used to my 40D as I've had it since the day it was launched, shot three plus years of a Photo a Day project way back when. I was out this evening trying to get a sunset with the a6500 and spent minutes fumbling around trying to find the bracket function the trying to figure out how to set it. Decided I needed a bit more familiarization with the menu and the setup.

    that1cameraguy it's lighting fast, that buffer is great. Haven't had good weather yet to test out the AF. I plan to mate it with a Canon 100-400 II via MC11 for a lighter birding rig. Hope it works okay. I was using a Canon 7D2, but wanted something lighter and better DR. Have you tested the 6500 with any longer lenses? Does AF work well enough for Bird photography?

  • @that1cameraguy

    @that1cameraguy

    7 жыл бұрын

    I just don't do any wildlife photography (I should try it out). My subject matter are humans that move around. The MC-11 works really well for adapting lenses. I think performance in AF-S is decent. With AF-C my experience has not been stellar. I've used the Sony 70-300 as well as the 70-200 GM with 1.4x. I've done a couple videos on my channel about that but with human subjects.

  • @jdpdata

    @jdpdata

    that1cameraguy yeah that's what I'm afraid of. The Sony bodies are not fast enough to keep up with flying birds. My A7RII was okay for stationary birds, but failed miserably at tracking them in-flight. Was hoping the 6500 would do better and got it for the extra reach with cropped sensor. Too bad Sony doesn't have any native E-mount glass for Bird photography. Guess I'll keep the 7D2 for that purpose.

  • @that1cameraguy

    @that1cameraguy

    7 жыл бұрын

    Honestly, that's the reason why I'm still holding onto my Canon gear. If I ever get the 2x teleconverter, I'll try it on the 70-200 GM, but that's a pricey lens. With native lenses the a6300/a6500 is really good. However, adapting lenses is not going to be the way to go.

    Nice Vid. The S&Q setting you were wondering about is very important for video shooters. The 24fps or 30fps setting selection should match the frame rate you are using to shoot your video and in which you are editing. It basically affects playback speed and allows the camera to inform the edit software to know the intended playback speed. Basically if you are editing a 24fps video and you shoot 120 fps, the video will play 5x slower - 120/24=5x slower playback. If working in a 30 fps project 120/30=4x slower playback.

  • @ithurt3748

    @ithurt3748

    Ani Kabillio thanks. But you can still change this in your edit program? And does settings this ‘correct’ on camera allow you to see the slow motion in camera when playing back?

  • @JulianBlau

    @JulianBlau

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@ithurt3748 10 months ago... But I'll still answer for people looking for an answer. The idea of S&Q is entirely different from the normal shooting mode. When you record 120 FPS normally through the Manual Exposure Program Setting, the video will be saved as a 1080p120 real-time playback video. Which you can then slow down in Post-production. This is good for reviewing footage and quickly seeing what you are getting in real time playback speed. What S&Q does differently is that it takes the same 1080p120 footage and saves it onto the card as a 24 or 30 fps video. This gives you the ability to review footage directly in camera at the selected speed, in slow motion. This is especially beneficial in post-production, as you don't have to slow down every clip you import before its ready for usage. Which in turn speeds up your editing, when you want to use everything in slow motion anyway. And depending on software it is also easier on your computer's hardware. S&Q is only enabled when you choose it in the same menu as Manual Exposure. Movie/S&Q Motion> scroll down below manual exposure, and you will find a few different S&Q Modes. Hope it helps!

    Shilly no problem! Also another thing. It Stands for Slow & Quick. Which makes sense. Besides shooting slow-motion (overcranking). You can also shoot at slower framerates like 21/14 or even things like 1 fps. This is called: undercranking. This can be useful In situations where you want to express confusion, fast action or even drug impacts on your character. A feature Used in many feature films. For example Madmax Fury Road used undercranking (Around 21 fps) to speed up action scenes and make the action seem faster. I would personally recommend to film things normally and undercrank in post. But in any case! It is a pretty neat thing to know about ✌️

    Im looking at getting a sigma adaptor for my Art Lens but other than that I might invest in some G glass. As I shoot mainly video I'm looking into some old japan lenses as well. In Australia, Sony has a group called SONYX where they actually give really good support for Sony Users and discounts on all sony products including their lenses, Some even $300-$400 off. Another reason I went Sony because of the ability to get discounts on their lenses and the support. They also do Road Shows around Australia and invite members to come bring their camera and test all their lenses as well. You've been a a6000 user for a while now but coming from canon how did you find the transition? Did you keep your glass?

  • @that1cameraguy

    @that1cameraguy

    7 жыл бұрын

    I still have my Canon DSLR's, although I have sold a few off. I still have a good number of EF glass. I adapt my Sigma lenses though. The only reason why I can't fully transition is that Sony just doesn't cut it at the low-light sports like a DSLR will. I would like a full-frame e-mount (not a99ii) that can shoot low light sports. I think once that camera rolls around, the Canon gear might go.

    It did. Thank you. I do have a question. I'm new to videography and this is my first time using a Sony A6500 with the 25mm Batis f2. I notice everytime I press the record button it crops in a little bit more. Is that normal? Also, I thought as soon as I put on the FE lens to an E-mount camera it should already have the 1.5x crop factor? Please help me understand that. Thank you in advance!

    +Andy Tran since it's the a6500 it already has that crop 1.5x. yes it's normal for it to crop in a little when recording 4k

    hmm, Thank you. I guess the 25mm is a little too close for a crop sensor. Vlogging just won't work if it only fits my face. -_-

    Thanks a lot for your very informative video. I am new to the Sony mirrorless system and have found some of your tips very useful, especially the one about leaving "Live View Display" on. I could not work out why I wasn't seeing the real time exposure before pressing the shutter. I also come from the Canon system, which I still own, and I find it helpful that you refer to it in your video. I am not sure yet if I will ever change system but for the moment using them both is working well for me. Cheers!

  • @AlfonsoSalgueiroLora

    @AlfonsoSalgueiroLora

    7 жыл бұрын

    Hi again, thanks for your reply. Yes I am adapting my lenses but I got the Sony-Zeiss 16-70mm f4. I wanted to get a native lens to see the full potential of the camera but that lens has some serious distortion and chromatic aberration, although it's a good enough lens. I am a pro photographer and mostly do concerts, landscapes, architecture and some events. I have realized about some great advantages of the Sony mirrorles system compared to my Canon DSLRs (5D MK3 & 6D) namely the silent shutter, the spot and highlight metering (only found on the 1DX series) the AF, the DR, the tilting screen, the EVF and some others. Not that I'm still convinced I will switch to Sony overnight but let's say I'm in a transition zone. Thanks again for your very informative videos Cheers!

    Yeah, I know that feeling. That odd transition zone. I want to sell off my Canon gear, but I just can't. I think it could happen in the next generation of camera bodies from Sony for me. We'll see.

    I feel the same way actually. If the next body after the A7R2 has dual card slots, different RAW file sizes, and is more responsive I think I will be switching for sure. I just got the a6500 to see if the system was good enough for my uses, I also tried for a couple of days an A7R2 and was very impressed. Happy New Year by the way!

    I just got my brand new Sony A6500 with a 16-70mm F/4 Zeiss and it's one of the most incredible cameras I've ever used. Actually, I shot a complete wedding with it, and I'm amazed with the results. Coming from Nikon (D750, D810, D850, D500) I think this little marvel makes a superb job, specially on the focus, silent shooting and speed areas. And now, my next toys will be the Sony A7iii with the 24-105mm F/4 and the 55mm F1.8 and I will finally will say good bye to Nikon. Thank you so very much for this video, it was tremendously helpful.

    Nice, very helpful video. I'm still on the fence about whether to buy the d500 or the a6500. I have the a6000 and d750 now. Do you think the limitations of the touch screen can be improved with new firmware in the a6500?

  • @that1cameraguy

    @that1cameraguy

    I believe the touch screen is similar to the Sony a5100. They might have just used the same tech inside of that one and put it on the a6500. I'm doubtful. Is touchscreen big for you? How do you plan to use it?

  • @cre8tivity06

    I'm a little confused with the touch panel options. I have mine set to Touch Panel + Pad. I'm using a 14mm AF Rokinon lens. When I tap the screen to focus, I'm getting a little finger icon at the top of the screen and then it says Focus Cancel at the bottom of the screen and it's not focusing.

    Great video - And I followed along and adapted most of your suggestions. However... I NEVER heard the most important setting info that I initially needed to find! How do I change/turn-off the instant "image preview" that appears after shooting a still image, instead of a live view? It is so annoying not to see the action in front of you immediately as you would with a DSLR. Thank you, as I cannot find this info anywhere for the 6500.
