As a new Shiba roommate, I appreciate and love your content. It's good to see someone who loves their Shiba for who they are and is willing to help others live happy life with their sheebz instead of posting cute click bait meaningless content only to generate revenue. There is nothing wrong with revenue, I personally took harness recommendation and followed a link, I only mean it as in having Shiba only for videos/breeding purposes.

Good video, ny I can relate to most of this with my shiba. No matter what though they are the best dogs. You gotta start socializing immediately, and training never stops. These dogs are so smart they read you like a book. But that's half the fun is watching how these dogs interact with you, with your family and the world around them. Make sure no matter what dog you have, that they get out of the house, and see more than just your normal walk route. You'll be amazed at how much excitement your dogs will have going places they've never been.

JiJi(Jishin) goes crazy ove a couple thing. The glass cleaner spray bottle always gets his curious attention. The other noise that drive him howling mad crazy is the noise when the smoke or carbon monoxide detector battery dies. He will howl like crazy!

I thought the comment about not being able to take off-leash was interesting because, "One rabbit, deer or squirrel and off they go." And of course, they're 'semi-feral'/primitive with strong prey-drive, meaning they don't home-back to the owner on 'beck and call' or remember their way back or even remember they were domesticated pets, just moments ago! I've seen people in real life train Shibas to be off-leash but I guess that's in parks or safe places whereas wilderness with loads of prey to chase it's going to be a massive problem and in the US perhaps dangerous predators too? Those GPS-Collars look like really good solutions however if the option to take the dog out around a local area if the home is rural and it's safe around the place, then it should not be too hard to locate the dog as well as know the lie of the land? But definitely a lot of command training as well before that stage. I really like seeing Shibas running around off-leash the most, if it's possible. Some simulated hunting would be a good option maybe? Eg I saw hay-bales in one video and some sort of treat in there for dogs to search for. Or if in a garden with a bird-feeder, then the resident squirrel-scarer would be a good job for the Shiba as well...

My Shiba just hit puberty and doesn't listen as well as he used to before so what I recommend people training their Shiba or any dog in general to be off leash is to put a long leash you can on them that they can drag on the ground. It makes them easier to catch or stop them in their tracks by stepping on it. The leash I have has biothane or coated webbing and 15 meters long. Very important is to attach it to a harness and NOT a collar. A collar in general is not that bad, but with a long leash it can be dangerous.
