On cold morning, while cranking for 5 to 8 seconds, she was blowing whiteish grey smoke. Taking 3 cranks to finally run. Determined it was the Glow Plug Relay that was faulty. Cranked on 1st start after replacing the Glow Plug Relay with no more white smoke last month. Thanks for these tips.

Great video 👍 my problem was I was coming home all of the sudden my turbo stopped whistling. I turned into my driveway and it started blowing while smoke so I shut it down . And after watching this video I turned my tuner to stock. Started it back up and no smoke reved it up no smoke and no boost either. So I pulled the intake to the turbo to check the wheel and there was no damage or movement and spun freely. The next day I took it for a drive no smoke at idle and 35 mph started smoking and no power or boost. I’d appreciate your input, I’m going to do a pedestal upgrade and rebuild the turbo. And replace all the boots and clamps. Thanks 🤠

i'm new to your channel, Thanks for education. I've got a F550 with the 7.3l I bought at auction for $1800. I changed all the filters, cleaned the fuel tank and sending unit filters added fresh fuel. started ran beautiful. parked for 9 days now crank no start with a lot of white smoke and oil in the valley. So, should I go after the oil leak first or the no start first?

Clint, I have a abnormal Smell coming from my 01 350 exhaust. And yessir, some (very little) white smoke in the mornings on initial crank. I initially thought it was because it has the cat which is new to me on 7.3’s. Should I go straight to injector cups? Truck has 118k. Thank you sir.

Hello Clint, I just replaced my HPOP with the high flow adrenline pump I replaced my harness and did the EBPV delete, I start easy about 3 revolutions of the engine and it fires. I am going to upgrade injectors next winter. I noticed that after it fires up for about 3 to 4 minutes I have white smoke and then it goes away and I am good. My next move is to take my chip out and return to stock. Is there anything else I should look at????

Codes- All powerstroke and T444Es come with A code injectors. A code injectors have a 6.0mm plunger and a 16mm intensifier piston. What this does is multiply the ICP so that injection pressure is adiquate but not having to have huge amounts of ICP like say in the 20,000 psi range. This difference give you approximately a 7:1 difference and therefore increases your injection pressure 7 psi for every 1 psi of ICP. All DT466s and I530E injectors are B codes. Of those some DT466s and all I530Es have a 7.1mm plunger, hense more fuel per mm of stroke, with a 17.5mm intensifier piston. This gives you approximately a 6:1 ratio. So no it will not have quite as high of ICP as as the A codes but it's not as bad as it could be. However due to the larger intensifier piston they reqire much more high pressure oil to make the piston stroke the same distance. This is why you need a high pressure oil system with a higher capacity. Hybrid injectors are taking the 7.1mm plunger and barrel out of a BD code I530E injector and installing it into an A code injector with a 16mm intensifier piston. As you could imagine the down fall is that the injection ratio is dropped to approximatly 5:1 further decreasing injection pressure. However with the smaller intensifier piston it requires no more oil than an equivilant A code yet it flows the same amount of fuel as a B code. The result is much more fuel capacity without the need for more high pressure oil volume. A codes and B codes can be further broken down as well. A and AA injectors came in the '94-'97 non-california trucks. They are all 90cc injectors and are single shots. AB injectors came in the '97 cali, and all early '99 trucks. They are split shot injectors meaning they fire a small pilot shot before the main shot. These injectors flow 130-135cc of fuel. AC injectors are found in the high torque version of the T444E and do not come in any Powerstrokes. They have the same internals as the AB injectors with the exception of the single shot plunger and barrel. However due to them being single shot injectors they flow 160cc. This is due to the way the split shots work. They have a small passage that opens, much like a port in a two stroke engine, that are uncovered that bypass the injection pressure out the side of the barrel instead of out the end through the nozzle. Because of this pause a portion of the travel of the plunger does nothing for injecting fuel so a split shot injects less fuel for the same amount of travel as a single shot. AD injectors are also split shot but flow 135-140cc of fuel due to a slightly longer plunger stroke. These are found in all late '99-'03 Powerstrokes and T444Es. AE and AF injectors are essentially the same as AD injectors but were called a long lead injector that was used as an attempt to cure a "cackle" issue many people complained about. BA, BB, and BC injectors are essentiall all the same and are the same as AC injectors but are found in some DT466s. BD injectors are the only B codes with the larger 7.1mm plunger and barrel that are single shot injectors. These are the injectors people are usually talking about when they are talking about putting I530E injectors in their Powerstrokes. BE injectors are essentially the same as the AD injectors but found in some '97-'99 DT466s. EF, BG, BI, BJ, BN and BP injectors all have basicly the same capacity and are split shots. However the nozzles vary on them depending on application. They can be found in many DT466s and I530Es. R

Hey Clint, so I have watched almost all your 7.3 videos and have helped me so much in fixing my 7.3 and being able to understand the basic mechanics of it. However my truck doesn't smoke a lot on start up maybe a minute or two, but some times when I get into the throttle and I look in my side mirror I notice the smoke is a bit greyish white. Also should add that when at an idle it doesn't blow white smoke and I did the bypass for the oil vent thing cant think of the name. I have it on just a daily tune like 60 or 80 Hp now I'm going to put it on stock and test it out, however if it not what it is what do you think. I have hydra tuner, 1and half injectors, big nice Riff Raft intake fully in closed, and 4 inch exhaust from turbo back. All brand new parts installed by a shop less than a couple years definitely less than 100k miles ago. Do you think its the tune if i put it on lets say race tune extra 140hp the smoke is all black, however I rarely put it on that one due to not wanting to break old red. lol

Dumb question maybe someone can answer. I bought a 95 that didn’t have a cold air intake. Supposedly the engine was swapped with a used good motor and injectors and glow plugs are new. It runs good and starts good but had a pugged CCV that was causing a turbo oil leak. I added a straight piped paper filter and bypassed the CCV. I’m not leaking oil anymore and the smoke is a ton less. But I still have pretty constant grey smoke. I have an unplugged air box sensor laying in the engine compartment and am wondering if that is causing a problem. It’s in the 30’s outside and starts fast with a puff of grey smoke. Possibly i need to find a way to put a sensor on that cold air intake??

Suddenly, my '99 Ford F250 7.3 starts up and runs fine for awhile then suddenly dies. If I wait ten minutes it starts up again runs for a few minutes then dies. I was towed home and put in a new filter in the cannister and changed out the heater. It started up fine and ran smooth for about twenty miles and then it died and did the same wait start die wait start die routine. Now I am going to change out every damn sensor I can get my hands on.

Off subject, have you ever heard of a secondary battery system to heat the motor prior to COLD starts? How much battery (storage) would you need to run the heater for 1-2 hrs. Seems the 200ah lithium batteries with 80amp charge rate/ BMS, could possibly get the job done. I'm not always around power and boy howdy that motor will run on 1 cylinder as it warms up... let me tell you white smoke galore!!! I've only done it once as a 7.3 noob, I make sure I'm near power now...

Having an issue where my ICP will spike up to 3k for a split second then drop down to 2.2k at WOT. Paired with a elevated IPR DC%. In conjunction I will find bubbles on my oil dip stick after shutting off. It also seems that after just a couple hundred miles the truck will take longer to start until I do a oil change. As well as a longer start when hot. Any ideas, sir?

There is a hand full of issues that cause this. 1 a little bit of bubbles are fine 2 to much oil in pan 14 quarts max try removing 1 quart 3 small air leak on LPOP , Timing cover, seal, seal on HPOP, Injector O ring, internal seal on HPOP I,m not in front of your engine so it would be my idea if it was in my shop to take a look see at the hpop or after running pull the ICP and see if the bubbles are there that would cause the fluctuation then you need to go back to the previous mentioned . There is no way of testing this to find the culprit You could try this navistar flted8oz before starting in on any thing to see if it stops the issue do it on a fresh oil change

On a 93 the highest possibility is the injection pump seal not the injector. those work different than the 95 to 03's if you think its in the injection system building a high pressure air plug and injecting air will isolate where the leak is

Once it slows down and begins to blink slowly turn the ignition off and remove the key. I wait about one minute then put key back in and start normally. This resets the PATS system. Your hydra has a similar trick should be in the directions or contact the seller to get the correct action
