Right at the end of the video you answered my question. I’ve tried two sensors: one from CarQuest and one from O’Reilly. Neither worked. I’ll go to a Ford dealer next. The original sensor reads middle of the gauge all the time. Soon as you turn the key, dead cold, it says it’s at perfect temp. The other two new ones shows cold all the time.

Just to bring this long rambling to a conclusion. I did use the EOT style "dy-1144" coolant sensor in my 2002 F350 7.3L 6spd manual (cab and chassis, door tag says: "Incomplete manufacturing" 09/2001). So for whatever reason, even though my truck is not a 2003- It still uses the EOT sensor; just like the Excursions and E-350. I drove around the block a few times, and it settled right to the middle of the gauge, just like it always did before and the heater was blowing warm like it did before. So I'm assuming it works. Hi, thanks for the video. I have a 2003 F250 7.3L and my temp gauge doesn't move much at all. Does the paperclip or grounding test work on 03's? Mine doesn't move when I try it. I put the paperclip in the plug that goes directly into the cluster and still get no movement. These gauges go all the way up when I initially turn the key then drop back down. I tried a junkyard cluster and get the same results. I tested the resistance of the gauge and the numbers all matched the trans temp readings also so that makes me think the gauge is within spec. I don't know where to go from here.

Had to replace injector cups, rebuilt injectors, oil change, flushed and flushed several times the coolant. Had coolant leveled out and started engine to burp the air with Auto Enginuity scanner attached, The coolant temp gauge on the scanner showed half temp after engine had warmed up, then showed 302 deg before going to 202 deg and staying there. Tested both temp sending unit wiring and lights/gauge but the one on the scanner is stuck at around 200 deg engine running or not. Cannot find info on what could be wrong. Service manual no help.

Check you valve cover gasket connectors. The pigtails and connectors on the gasket themselves. Especially the passenger rear if it’s an OBS truck. You also need to take a look at the connection on the underside of the valve cover. Look for chafed wiring. It could be a lot of other things too, this is a common problem for that. If you did not replace the sensors with OEM that could another problem on top of your original problem

I've got a 2003 E450 cutaway and I dropped the transmission pan to change the temperature sensor but it looks like my transmission isn't the same. (Looks like a 4R100 or e4do) I'm getting crazy ECT temperatures when I use forscans dashboard, up to 500° then dropping down to 2° instantly and then climbing back up to a normal range. When I shut it off and start it back up it says ECT is over 300° but the EOT is normal. the temperature gauge stays in the normal range and I'm not getting any lights or codes but it's running like it's in limp mode after it warms up. Does this sound like a bad PCM or something else?

So do you mean they are using an "engine oil temp" sensor to run the temp gauge on the dash with actual oil temperature? Or are they simply putting the EOT into the water pump mounting hole, and using the EOT to read the temperature of the water? I'm just curious what you mean at (4:09). Also, what about 2002 model with 6 speed manual transmission? Everywhere I ask, I get a different answer. I just need the sensor that bolts into the top of the water pump, but I can't nail down which one it is. The one that was in my truck had the cone shaped tip with a white colored connector. I've found a few with the cone tip- but they all had the black plastic connector (not sure if that matters)... I ordered one on fleebay, and made sure it was a motorcraft. It was the cone shape tip with white connector (in the picture). But the one they sent me was actually the EOT- with the smooth round shaft and flared tip (like what is shown in your video for 2003). So I'm going to send it back, I guess. But even when I go to Oreilly's, they don't seem to know what they are talking about, and they don't even realize that there are two sensors. My question is. Can the EOT style work on a 2002 7.3L with zf 6 manual? or is it just for the 2003.. (again, the one in the water pump-- not the front cover). I'd rather just use it if it will work. But if I open it, I can't send it back... If it won't work, I guess I'll try what Oreilly's has, even though it has the black plastic connector, and not the white one that I used to have. (Is there any difference? as long as they both have the cone shaped tip, and are both motorcraft: does the color of the connector matter? Any help would be much appreciated thanks.

@@CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD Hear me out, I think you might find this interesting: (if not, I'm sorry to bother you again). I went out into my yard and luckily my broken sensor was still there where I threw it down. :).. so I wiped the 20 year old dirt off and somehow magically got the ultra small laser number on the side of my old sensor, and its: "F5AF-12A648-AB" and "1H20A" right underneath it. (brass cone tip) But an even more interesting thing is that: even though it is busted off from the brass threads. It's still intact and I can see the little sensor on the end of the little connecting bars (wires). So I ohm'd it out, and it reads around 30k ohms at room temp.. but if I hold the tip of the (exposed- broken away from the brass) sensor with my fingers- it will drop down to around 22k ohms. So it seems to still be working smoothly in the readings, or at least temperature does have an effect on it. So I was curious about the new sensor I still have, (which is the EOT I was wrongfully sent): (dy-1144) also says (3F1Z-12A648-A) on the package. (smooth brass shaft with flared tip) So I ohm it out through holes in the plastic package (without opening it), and it reads: around 28.4k ohms. So they are both in the same ball park. They are both supposed to be genuine Motorcraft parts as far as I know. It's in a Motorcraft package. If you're still with me and haven't lost interest (thank you)--- My question is: Are these the same EOT sensors that are used on the EOT that is on the back of the HPOP reservoir? Are they interchangeable? The reason I ask is because, on your dedicated EOT video, you show the resistance ranges to only be between 1k to 8k ohms. Are these sensors I have completely different possibly? Or is the "EOT" temp sensor actually different from the actual EOT oil sensor? So my ultimate question is: Do you think My original "broken" sensor is a real Ford part? Or was the correct original part rather? It was certainly working before I broke it. (F5AF-12A648-AB) And do you think the new EOT sensor should work? Since they have very similar resistances? Even though it's not the same as the resistances you give on your EOT video. I checked the tag on my door; it says: "Manufactured 09/ 01" -- But my title says it's a 2002. So I suppose it was built late enough in the year to be considered a 2002. But it's definitively NOT a 2003, apparently. Although it says "incomplete manufacturing" on the door tag. So it was an XL cab and chassis when it was built, plus it has the 6 spd manual 4x4, so it's a bit of a unicorn oddball I guess; not sure if that would have a weird sensor or not. It doesn't even have tilt wheel or cruise control, and I had to put a flatbed on it when I bought it used. I know the E350 vans have a different sensor for some reason?? with the same 7.3L engine. Could mine be considered "utility" like the Econline E350, since it's a cab and chassis? Everywhere I check, it says that this new part shouldn't fit my truck-- But I've crossed a few places now that says it's a direct replacement for the senor that I have. So was my sensor not the original maybe? I have an xtool D8- I guess I can plug it in and see if there is anything weird that makes the computer think it's not an F350. (sorry to ramble, I'm just dumping all the info I know). To clarify, when I cross reference my broken" ect number on fordparts" site, it says that the sensor should NOT be in my truck. It shows it in the Excursion and E350, but NOT my F350, even though it was obviously in there and working as intended. :) .. It's insane I crossed a write up on a site: "deadheaddiesel" dot com.. titled: "7.3 eot sensor symptoms" I'll just copy and paste it in a reply below this if you want to read through it (or you can probably just google it). He seems to have found the lineage and history of all the sensors (mostly anyway). Again, any help would be super appreciated. It really shouldn't be this difficult, but apparently it is. :) If you have any VIN info that is certainly welcome. (for example, before 2xxxxxx VIN it should be XYZ, and after that VIN, it should be 123, etc..) Thanks again. Cheers.

@@CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD Hear is the info from "deadheaddiesel: 7.3 Engine Oil Temp Sensor Part Numbers After an exhaustive search I’ve found that there are 3 distinctly different-looking parts that are represented to be 7.3 EOT sensors. All of them also cross reference to 7.3 ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensors. 7.3 EOT sensor (Old - ROUND connector) Pre 1996 - 7.3 EOT sensor part number: WT5058 ON eBAY (ROUND Connector) - Cross references to SU201, 36407, WT5058, 5S1140, 9362, 4H2 Retrofitting 1994-1995 EOT to the new style sensor 1994 and 1995 old style round connector 7.3 EOT sensors can be switched to the new style (Rectangular) ones below. (REQUIRES Pigtail Replacement: SEE “Wiring Harness” section BELOW) 7.3 EOT sensor (NEW - Rectangular Style Connectors) 1994-2003 - Superseded replacement 7.3 EOT Part Number - F5AZ12A648A or F5AZ12A648AB (Which most often comes up described as the 7.3 Engine Coolant Temp Sensor, but is used interchangeably as a 7.3 EOT sensor) However, a quick check on fordparts" and their system converts that part number to… 1994-2003 - Ford OEM superseded replacement 7.3 EOT Part Number - 3F1Z12A648A (Ford calls it a “SENDER ASY”) And finally… 1994-2003 - Alliant Power has a superseded replacement 7.3 EOT Sensor-Part number: AP63436. It replaces - F5AZ12A648AB, 3F1Z12A648A, DY961, DY1144 as a direct replacement for them all. After more research than I like to… Okay, that’s not true-I love researching this stuff. Anyway, the two new parts are represented as being interchangeable. In fact, there are several forum threads where DIY 7.3 owners swap the ECT and EOT sensors back and forth, attempting to troubleshoot a 7.3 EOT problem. 7.3 EOT Sensor - AP63436, 3F1Z12A648A 7.3 EOT/ECT Sensor - F5AZ12A648AB My suggestion - remove your 7.3 engine oil temp sensor, see which one it is, and replace it with the same one. If you’re not that motivated or you want to upgrade to one of the new sensors, it shouldn’t matter which one you use. But for pete’s sake, don’t just unplug it…

My truck has 320,000 miles on it and recently started blowing white smoke out of the exhaust i unplugged this sensor and let my truck idle for a few mins and there was no change so i put seafoam in the tank bc i thought it may be injectors or something and kept driving it thinking it was gonna get better and nothing changed the truck still felt like normal it was just rolling soft white smoke at all times so i took it slow while i was driving it and just yesterday i checked the oil and nothing read on the stick but the coolant is fine and isnt contaminated with oil or diesel so im thinking its maybe the turbo blowing oil into the exhaust and creating the white smoke or the injector o rings somehow letting oil in the cylinder i really dont know could any one with a little more experience give me some help

I'm not standing by your truck so here are items I've ran into with what you spoke of .... injector seals shot letting oil into the fuel remove filter from fuel bowl see if its black ///// Turbo seal out hot exhaust burning the oil giving smoke ///// no oil in coolant only means cups are good and usually only fuel crosses that area and gets into coolant unless the head is cracked ////////////// if you pull the injectors also check the tips for cracks .... cherio !

@@CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD Hey thanks for the quick response i checked the fuel filter and it still looks brand new no contamination there but tomorrow is my day off so im probably gonna pull the valve covers and fire it up to see if theres any issue with the injectors and i might take the turbo off to investigate there thanks for your help your channel has helped me multiple times with saving money and keeping my truck on the road

that year doesn't have a trans temp sensor so thats normal The next truck coming in is a 95 OBS and will help show differences from the more shown 99-2003's

Ugh. I have a 2000 f250. Changed water pump. Threw out old water pump w old sensor. New sensor doesn’t match the wiring on truck. Went to ford dealer. Tried ever single sensor they had. None fit. So fucking frustrating. Whys it gonna be this fucking difficult??? Temp gage hasn’t worked in a year. 😒😒😒

Seems confusing what you put on screen when you are narrating the differences... As you start talking about 94.5 to 12/98 models, you show on screen part numbers for 94-97 exclusively and then show pics + part numbers and referring to those earlier model years...before going on to 2003 model... ( perhaps you meant to cover those two sensor parts (shown) to encompass the wider range of model years (94.5- 12/98) and it was a misprint when you showed the 94-97 designation only?) A clarification would straighten that out for us...(some of us are new to the 7.3l as you have acknowledged from time to time) Thanx!
