I tried to do my best to document the biggest south swell I've ever witnessed.

My family had no idea of the swell that was coming through and we went to Makena beach just before it closed on that Saturday. The waves were huge. As we left some people told us to go to La Perouse location. We made it through some small rocks on the way and took some insane video of the waves on the lava rock trail. Things began to get out of control and we headed back. The hairpin turn you filmed where you have to time the waves to make the curve had us terrified. I never get scared driving but for a thirty second segment while waiting I almost told everyone to get out of the van and climb over the wall. Large rocks everywhere…thought for sure we were going to get stuck or break something. Exhilarating and something we will NEVER forget.

Mahalo for reminding me how beautiful those two pearls of Maui are. And how rare it is to see him break like that. That's killer footage thank you again. From Humboldt.

Was at La Perouse years ago. It was bigger than that. Tried paddling out on boogie board. I still get scared thinking about that. Those videos cannot even come close to capturing the absolute power of those waves. Something about that spot in particular. The thickness of the waves I haven't seen anywhere else.

Best commentary ever. I suppose surfers never get tire of good surf, even if the surf number is way to big. Your surf number was 144: period X size. If I saw a 144, I would run for the hills.

Good to see smart people riding the extra leangth for the take off and the screening tubes. Obviously the most entertaining utube I've seen in a long time. . Crazy story I heard awl Chapman told about a tub ride he witnessed out there. . Guy pulled in, he walked around his car slowly and when he looked back out the guy came flying out of the pit.. like a 10 second barrel. Lobe the surf tales ledgends talk surf story. Good vidio bud

  • @williamhanley7031

If it wasn't for the winds the barrels wouldnt hold up as long and tall and open as it was. The winds make the wave more makable . If it was dead glass there would be less chance of making that wave. It's a god send that wind actually. Don't believe me , ask anyone that has surf knowledge about that place.

@@williamhanley7031 gees thanks guy I didn't know about the effects of wind on the waves. I have never surfed before (except almost every day of my life) Just saying it's a bit on the strong side don't you think 😂 Even offshore wind can get annoying when it's 100klm per hour like that looks.
