This isn’t a block but instead a mob, but I still wanted to mention it. Bats were added to Minecraft as a way to make strip mining easier: if you hear a bat, you know there is a cave nearby. They basically used an animal that has supersonic hearing and made it super useful if you can hear it, which I find very cool.

If you wanted to add one more, you could have added Coarse Dirt! You can use a hoe on coarse dirt like regular dirt to turn it into farmland. While that might not seem interesting, this means that Dirt is actually a completely renewable resource, because you can craft Coarse Dirt by using 2 Dirt and 2 Gravel, giving 4 Coarse Dirt. And since you can trade for gravel from Piglins, this means that as long as you have at least 2 dirt, you can gain a theoretically infinite amount of dirt

Hey, something you may want to know, it works like the old carpet trick but it is slightly different, if you put a carpet on top of a fully grown berry bush and stand a villager on top of it, they will not move because they think they will be hurt, it keeps them from pathfinding, also mobs will not willingly walk over the top of this for the same reason, they think they will be hurt, but they CAN be pushed over it if too many mobs come up at once and shove each other forward.

the reason why the leaves send updates through one another is because leaf blocks have a variable that says how far away the nearest log is to a leaf block (only through other leaf blocks). this is used to determine if a leaf block should decay or not. even though leaves placed by players don't naturally decay, the variable is still updated, so if you push a log to a block next to a leaf block, the value will change which for some reason is detectable by observer.

(7:50) you can also make a furnace key without consuming resources by using an empty bucket, as it's the only thing you can put in the fuel slot that hoppers can detect, so if you hook it up to a sorting system to detect if the item is an empty bucket, you can take your empty bucket to use later without needing a constant supply of stuff to put in your furnace

I got number 69: Beacons are the only flying immovable transparent blocks you can place redstone on top of, that cannot be affected by redstone themselves. Very useful when compacting redstone machines with lots of slime and honey. Scaffolding and hoppers work too and are a lot cheaper, but scaffolding needs to be supported and hoppers can affect eachother and observers.

Ah I was wondering why that sounded wrong. It sounded close to right but a bit off.
The whole Enchantment v.s. Enchanting argument started at around the release of 1.13 for Java Edition. Apparently, the name of the afformentioned block was changed from Enchantment Table (which Bedrock and pre-1.13 Java editions use) to Enchanting Table (1.13+ Java Edition). Enchanting implies looks, Enchantment implies properties. This is just based on the denotations of each word. Personally, I use both sometimes, mainly because I heard others refer to it as both names. I /might/ use one more than the other, though. I'm not sure anymore.
@omargoodman2999
10 ай бұрын
Enchanting could either be a qualitative adjective or a present participle (verb used as an adjective). As a qualitative adjective, "enchanting table" means the table, itself, looks "enchanting"; in other words it's a very good looking table. This is equivalent to saying it's a "small table" or a "red table" or a "square table". By contrast, as a present participle, "enchanting table" can mean a table on which one performs enchanting. This is equivalent to "crafting table" or "dining table". PS: In "Enchantment Table", enchantment is a noun adjunct. Enchantment is a noun, and it's being used as an adjective to modify another noun, table in this case. This is equivalent to "chicken soup" or "football player" or "diamond pickaxe".
@Indecisive4734
10 ай бұрын
@@omargoodman2999 Very good point. I still mostly root for enchantment, however, as it is present in the majority of Minecraft (All of Bedrock, early Java).
@omargoodman2999
10 ай бұрын
@@Indecisive4734 The disagreement likely stems from different preferences for either categorical consistency vs traditional consistency. Those who favor categorical consistency would be more likely to favor "enchanting table" since it keeps to the same convention as other tools in the same category; crafting table, smithing table, fletching table (still needs functionality...). By contrast, those who favor "enchantment table" more likely favor the traditional consistency of how it actually got applied in practice. It's been "enchantment table" for a long time and across a broad swath of versions of the game, so they prefer the consistency of practical use over consistency of nominal category. Honestly, I don't really see what the fuss is about. Both share the same root word, "enchant" and it's clear in both cases what the function of the tool is. Any arguments against one based on "that's not how that word is used/what it means" are clearly incorrect and based on misunderstanding of English parts of speech, as I've already demonstrated. So I think people are just disagreeing and making a big deal out of nothing for the sake of having something to fight over and feel like they have a triumph.
@Indecisive4734

@@omargoodman2999 I still want to know why Mojang ever made the name change specifically on Java and not other versions. I understand that both words have the same meaning, so changing the suffix isn't a phonetical issue. The name change is honestly kind of confusing for the community and phoneticallypointlessmoverall. I guess Mojang just wanted to be Mojang again, like with dying dyed carpets in Java and not in Bedrock (-_-). I apologize for the messy response, I typed this while having my index and middle fingers almost dysfunctional on my right hand.
@omargoodman2999
10 ай бұрын
@@Indecisive4734 Psh, messy? If I didn't constantly go back and edit what I type I'd have words withnthenlettern"n"ninstead ofn"space" because I keep accidentally missing the space button on my phone. But yeah, I think it's just a matter of legacy vs practicality. To change it back to "enchantment" would involve going back and changing lots of code for what is, functionally, an inconsequential matter of linguistics. And same applies to changing "enchanting" to "enchantment" for the sake of consistency. And if they miss one, that can break something, which would be bad. So why fix what isn't broke and why risk breaking (breakment?) what isn't broke, too?
Fun fact about minecraft mobs: When mobs are wandering, they select a random block within a radius, set a waypoint to that block, and pathfind to it. they will not mark blocks that they cannot reach(either because it is blocked off, there is no valid path to the block of choice, or(and i could be wrong on this) the path to the block requires them to travel too far away) but the interesting part is that they will not wander to non-full blocks(stairs, slabs, etc.) but still pathfind on trapdoors(as mentioned by Mumbo), which is why pathfinding mob farms work
Correction, for anyone wondering, you DON'T NEED DEAD CORAL or even slime blocks to duplicate TNT. People have been making videos about it for ages, but for some reason the coral fan option is the most famous one. You can just search "tnt duper without coral" and you will get plenty of videos (if not options) to choose from. I have personally used one in 1.19.2 (using only regular pistons and note blocks, not a single slime or coral).
@remcon559

But are they more complicated to make?
@retlocker98

@@remcon559 They have similar footprints, with more types of blocks is all. 2:25 I actually considered this mechanic for designing a mob head farm. Needed a chamber for the charged creepers to blow up in, and for whatever reason I was too stubborn to use a moving hopper minecart as collection (wanted to be rid of minecart noises), so instead I wanted a piston to open a stream of water to push the heads into a corner with a stationary hopper minecart, and thus I planned to use ancient debris as a blast resistant pushable block.

4:37 that’s a cool one I found out purely on my own last year! I had random extra armor from early game, and extra end city armor, and as I’m a hoarder in game I put up some armor stands and put up some full sets with enchantments and one of them was gold frost walker boots from a ruined portal next to my infinite water source since I lived in a desert biome. I was VERY confused why it froze over to ice in a desert, I think my water bucket moved the armor stand with frost walker boots and that’s how I found out the enchantment still works while on the stand. Had to move that armor set away from my water!
Another amazing use for slabs in redstone that was missed is when you snake a redstone signal up a staircase of transparent blocks like shown, the signal can only travel UP (only in java) which makes it an insanely compact one-way path that i use very often in my redstone builds.
Regarding the crying obsidian. Respawn anchors have the same blast resistance and higher light level. I've used them to light up the blast chamber in my nether wood farm. They also have a very niche application where they can give off unusual power levels from comparators that no other blocks can give (I needed 11 once and didn't want to use lecterns).

the redstone block update is quite nice for hidden traps or pathways, since the update also happens through carpet. so you put a redstone ore with observer under a carpeted area and hook it up to whatever you want and people cant tell that its there.

The door tip can also be a fun way to mess with someone who uses pressure plates to activate doors. If you turn it that way, when they step on the pressure plate it will stay "closed" and when they get confused and step off it will "open". Best used on wooden doors since people will start opening them manually, meaning your prank can go unnoticed for a long time.

9:16 Did you know that a bug in the zombies' AI causes them to walk towards turtle eggs no matter where the mob started, when the eggs are at 0 0 0? I think that's because the zero is mathematically special (like, infinity*0 = 0) and breaks Minecraft's distance calculation algorithm, causing it to always return a distance of 0.
@Izzythemaker127

Actually in the very commonly used floating point IEEE 754 standard(funky number type) has Infinity*0=NaN(standing for Not a Number), as it is a indeterminate value in calculus. But still very insightful comment, and clever hypothesis for why it happens(and also funny like those turtle eggs are 2 sun circumferences away you aren't getting them zombie).

@@vibaj16 Division by zero is mathematically undefined. I meant multiplication with zero. Why multiply the coordinates with zero? I don't know what algorithm they exactly use, but they enter the egg's and zombie's coordinates into a calculation function which returns the distance to see if it's worth to walk there. But the calculation breaks when one of the coordinate sets is 0 0 0.

4:22 He meant azalea trees 6:33 Not only mangrove roots but any leaves work with this too [and using a debug stick you can waterlog double slabs] 6:56 Respawn anchors also can give off light [more than crying obsidian too] and are tnt proof. Also ender chests can do this and are used for anti mob spawners because of this and that they are a block that doesn't explode while not having a full hitbox. [There are others though, such as end gateways, end portals, end portal frames] {Also waterlogged blocks such as pickles, lanterns, (lava is a fluid) soul lanterns, glow lichen, amethyst buds, and amethyst crystals} - but crying obsidian is probably the best for most cases Not trying to be a know it all just letting people know
Loving the fact you gave the actual intended use of the lodestone as a not well known interaction
6:56 The respawn anchor has the same blast resistance, and gives off various light levels depending on how full it is it does however explode in the overworld/end just like a bed does in the nether/end
Loved the subtle reference to tunnel bors
That was insane! Most of my time playing Minecraft has been on 1.7, because I really love that generation of mods. What this video has made me realize is that the hyperfixation on resource production/automation is still there, it's just... in the vanilla game now, hidden in plain sight. Huh.

It's really interesting seeing how different the world of Minecraft is through the eyes of a redstone engineer, taking the quirk of a block you didn't think much of only to realize that it's perfecting for some type of contraption. Different minds see different things, and different potential!
I learned more about redstone in this video than I ever have from copying redstone tutorials. This was so comprehensive and I had several aha moments! Great video!!!
Also now I want to see a ton of hidden entrances with the things you mentioned in this video, hidden entrances never get old
Ancient debris/netherite blocks are interesting. I've been playing around with explosives mods and there seem to be two types of "explosion". One of them works like TNT and uses the blast resistance(even nukes can't break netherite), another seems to straight up remove the blocks around them, ignoring blast resistance. But not always.. some very precise explosives that seem to use this removal method still can't touch blast resistant blocks

@@superguy9834 TL;DR: Mumbo built a slime farm so hilariously bad that it sparked an honest to god slime farm revolution. In early season 9 Mumbo built an unconventional slime farm. Back then the norm for slime farms was to dig out a slime chunk. Swamp-based slime farms were technically possible, but regarded by the technical community as inefficient and generally unviable . Mumbo, not wanting to dig out a slime chunk, built his farm in a swamp. Rather hilariously, it didn’t work at all and produced no slime. This rather spectacular failure did however bring some attention to swamp-based slime farms as people tried to figure out what went wrong with Mumbo’s farm and how to fix it. This led to the realisation that some (then) recent changes to the light level requirements for mob spawning had made swamp-based slime farms viable without anyone noticing, and since then some pretty powerful swamp-based slime farms have been created.
I'd love a similar one with entities, here's an interesting fact about the dolfins : They can be usefull in redstone/item waterstreams for their item throwing properties. They will pick up and trow items 1 at a time with 1 tick delay (iirc) usefull to refresh the despawn timer, as well as to ensure pickup order of the items.
I think this video just helped me solve an issue I've been having with one of my farms for like 3 months. Thanks Mumbo!
i love mumbo still keeping that minecraft content going :)
Another thing about redstone ore: When activated (either by right-clicking it or walking on it), it gives off a light level of 7, which can be useful if you need a temporary light source, since you don't need to break it or use redstone to turn it off; it turns off automatically, although a side effect is that you can't regulate when it turns off, once it's on, it stays on until it turns off.
I love the moment, where Mombo references his failed attempt on a swamp based slime farm, that got the technical community to investigate into the real good working swamp based slime farm.

According to the people in the tmc community, this was a thing before Mumbo's farm existed but I would have to have proof of that to confirm it for certain.
2:46 Another cool thing about amethysts and redstone is that the pitch of the amethyst ringing sound from it transmitting vibrations is dependent on the redstone signal strength of the original vibration; super cool detail the devs added.
I've always wanted to make a secret staircase like that! Can't believe I didn't think of that method
This is more than entertaining. Ima bookmark this and use it again and again. Thanks Mumbo!
note for #1: updates are expanded every game tick, so if you put a line of observers next to a line of leaves and place a log, the observers will activate one game tick after the last.

Hi there, I'm loving the ideas you come up with. Also, on an unironically unrelated note, is fully automated wood my invention, or has it been done before?
