This LIGHTNING looks so nice! Playfield gleams! Only 2350 of these were made...this multilevel game has lots of speech and clever shots, plus an extra display under the playfield that shows your bonus and counts down remaining time on your extra ball!

    Yeah, looking at the runs for old Stern machines on IPDB, a lot of their machines had fairly low runs. 889 machine run for Orbitor 1! Then I was very lucky to see and play that. Pinball Hall of Fame still has one, but it's been out of service for a while.

    Don't worry, Todd. I am a long-time subscriber of your channel. I know how it works, and what the channel is there for. I shared this post to Google+, which is why it appeared the way it did. It's interesting to note that many games you've featured on your channel have made it to FarSight Studio's The Pinball Arcade game now. In many cases, I use the videos you produce to showcase how the real game plays compared to The Pinball Arcade version. What you do here is fantastic for pinball (in many forms). Keep up the great work.

    Stern really had some beautiful artwork. On the subject of the locked balls carrying over, Flight 2000, made the previous year, had that feature, but not if the game was shut off. It really adds a nice element to multiplayer games. All the players work to get the balls locked the first game, and if no one gets the multiball, they fight it out to see who will steal it first the second game.

    TNT Amusements Inc Maybe Stern heard some complaints on that or an impatient designer felt the sting of waiting that extra minute while the balls got to the trough and decided, "No more!" And the carry over between power offs in Lightning was born. :)

    I've noticed that Stern really doesn't care to acknowledge their classic pinball machines. That's unfortunates considering how great those machines were. Seawitch and Quicksilver were two of Stern's best.

    Well, I think its a matter of space and manpower....BUT, if you go to the Pinball Expo in October in Chicago, there will be LOTS and LOTS of Stern "oldtimers" who will be thrilled to talk about their "children"! PLUS, of course, you can come to my seminar too!

  • @Sprikers

    @Sprikers

    This comment is ironic since Stern decided to copy Seawitch and make Beatles. Yet they still don’t outright acknowledge it. Funny enough the rights aren’t tied up either since nobody seemed to care when Classic Stern went out!

  • @douro20
    @douro209 жыл бұрын

    Stern was the first company to produce a pinball with synthesized speech, which greatly reduced the amount of ROM space required for a talking game. Williams' Gorgar was the first talking pinball, but it used several thousand dollars worth of ROMS to store the digital samples for each word, which severely limited the amount of speech which could be put into a game. With speech synthesis, only a few kilobytes of ROM space was required for all the speech in a game, allowing for a much larger vocabulary.

    Funny, but I played this machine this weekend and multiball was earned by taking down all of the drop targets in this order: 1st - upper playfield, 2nd - center drops, 3rd - left drops, not the red arrows. Is this a setting that can be adjusted? Great looking machine. Pretty sick that I passed on one at a decent price this weekend.

    sounds like a broken ground wire that powers the two upper flippers...usually breaks off at ONE of the two flipper coil lugs. Its possible it gets the power from a LOWER flipper...so check them first, since they are easy to get to.

    System 3 bats are fine...they are similar to Williams. If you have the original System 3 flipper parts below the playfield, you can't use anything else. I have gotten in System 3 games where the entire flipper mechs were replaced with WIlliams mechanisms, probably because they had plenty of spare Williams parts hanging around and NO system 3 parts!
