    The panel really came out looking good Sam. At first I was a little concerned but you got it working fine now.

    Rusty Glovebox Thanks Lloyd, I'm still concerned but at some point I got to get these quarter panels welded and deal with what ever pops up next lol.

    Not sure, it's been so long ago. From what I can remember the guage on the aftermarket was close to the oem.

    Thumbs up, great job your doing on the quarter panel Sam. Quit often you can put some Acetone into a tray or can and you can dip those caulking nozzles into the acetone and clean them up to reuse over and over. The nozzles are not terribly expensive but the cost does add up if you keep doing small bits of caulking from time to time over a project. Cheers OLDDUDE

    I agree, committing to my quarters final placement was tough, you ain't kidding about the join between the deck filler and quarter, it's a bear to weld. I've also heard about some foams expanding too much and bulging the panel. Lookin good!

    WoW ....I wonder why that stuff sets so fast .... well looks like you got it in there good .... I could imagine you had to fly when getting that where it needed to be .... I think we all get a little scared when it comes to actually welding in the panels .... Every thing you have done looks great .... That car is going to be better then when it rolled off the assembly line

    I get trigger shy when it comes to finally welding it in place until I put down a few plug welds. Your right, it's going to be where it is and you will just have to work around any issues that may arise. That's the way I had to deal with that trunk pan. Panel looks great Sam.

    Sam you did a great job, you are right at some point you just have to do it and deal with whatever pops up. It looks like you breezed right through any issues with this quarter. I hope you have just as easy of a time on the other side, I am sure you will do great and think about it, its down hill from here lol ;)

    That is looking really nice Sam. I think that it lines up just about perfectly. What's left is probably just the aftermarket mismatch. Looks like a little clean-up around the door, but real nice everywhere else.

    Looking good Sam! I don't use the foam sealers, never liked how they work and always felt that was what caused the rust in the first place....just my thought. lol

    ceedell You maybe right about causing it to rust, do you have any suggestions on what else I could use on those areas or would you just put nothing at all? Thanks.

    Classic Car Overhaul I don't put anything between the panels. On vehicles that will be driven I usually apply a little undercoating with a brush along the seam line in the fender well after all paint is done then use a spray bottle with a trans fluid/kerosene mix to squirt just enough for corrosion protection on any internal welds. Just how I do it.

    How can you tell if a 64 impala has had quarters replaced? If you don’t see spot welds under the quarter is that a red flag? What should I look for?

  • @ClassicCarOverhaul

    @ClassicCarOverhaul

    Where the wheelhouse welds to the quarter panel there should be spot weld there unless they are covered with filler. Another way would be if you removed your moldings and take close look at the holes where the clips mount you would be able to tell if they are original, the oval ones are stamped and perfect, the aftermarket quarter panels you have to drill and file them yourself and are difficult to get them perfect. If you don't have molding then another way would be the lower body line where it meets the door, the aftermarket panels are wider and the original ones are the same size as the back of the door then it starts to get wider as you go back towards the rear. Hope that helps.

  • @ClassicCarOverhaul

    +Everett Samuel I used a spot weld cutter to cut all the spot welds and air chisel to separate the panels. Have to be careful with the air chisel and work slow with it or you'll tear up metal that you want to keep. where the quarter meets the deck filler panel that seam has about 3 or 4 spot welds I had to cut out the top section of the quarter to get to those welds could not get to them from inside the trunk cause the trunk hinge boxes are in the way. Hope that helps if you want I can make a video showing what I did just let me know.
