I've watched a number of NB Vids, but I have to say that CTC is way ahead of the pack. You are the consummate professional in content, commentary, communication. I bet that your editing leaves more on the cutting room floor that we viewers get to see. It's plain to see that you really put yer heart 'n' soul into the vlog. Good on ya mate!

I ran across one of your videos last week and it was so interesting I decided to just start at the beginning. I have watched them during the evenings and just finished. This looks so cool , I never had a clue this life existed and the UK was criss crossed with your canal network. I am envious of your sense of adventure and courage to take the chance and live your dream. I have really enjoyed sharing your adventures. I wish I hadn't gotten to the end of the videos so soon. Hope the wait for more isn't too long. Thank you for taking the time to share your adventure with us.

Watched all your videos in a few days. US transplant now since the 80's but grew up over there, and it's great to see home again. Takes me back to the mid 80's when my family took a Norfolk Broads holiday for a week or two. First night was rough as we moored up in what we found out was a tidal area and woke up to an extremely leaning boat! Mum wasn't too thrilled, but the tide came in and that mistake wasn't made again! Keep up the good work!!

Hearty greetings, my good fellow. I've not left any comments before today but I'm an avid - nay, rabid - follower of your vlogs. Most professional, wholly informative, mirth-stokingly witty, and always entertaining. Please keep up the excellent work. It's wonderful (and really helpful to we wannabe cruisers) that you decided to share your experiences this way. Thank you. My only slight niggle is that you bear a strong resemblance - in looks and manner - to my ex-boss, who rather annoyingly made myself and my equally long-serving colleagues redundant late last year. Still, I shalln't hold that against you! :) Whilst moving onto a canal boat is a dream for me, it is not presently feasible as we have a young, marauding family, and we're neatly esconced in a corner of the kingdom where the nearest canal remains unconnected from the rest of the network and runs for just a mile or two before stopping. I have, however, secured a promise from "the wife" that we'll spend at least several years living aboard when we reach the glorious sunset of our lives known as "retirement". This goal, of course, relies on the concept of "retirement" still being in existence by the time we get there... With that in mind, one question that I've been wanting to ask you for a long time, if I may, is how continuous cruisers go about leaving their boats for a week, or two, or three, should they want to go and spend some time with grandkids, say, or to take a two-month extended cruise to Antarctica. I assume that no-one would want to just moor up somewhere on the canal and leave their boats indefinitely, so it is possible to "book your boat into" a marina for short periods? Or, if that's not possible, do you have to rely on, say, family or friends coming to have a holiday on your boat and to look after it whilst you're away? Just wondered. And you've mentioned in a couple of your vlogs - vlogs - that you sometimes use a car. How does that work when you're out cruising on the canals and not moored in a marina? Can you leave one long-term at a marina or is it better to hire one as and when you need one? Well, profuse and earnest apologies for the length of this missive, hearty congratulations once again on the sheer quality of your vlogs, and the very greatest of thanks for your time. Very best wishes, Steve

Hello. Apologies for my evil twin making you redundant (though redundancy can sometimes be a blessing). I hope I - er, he - gave you a substantial payoff. You've pretty much thought this through correctly on both queries. Leaving the boat canalside for any duration would be risky so best to find an accommodating marina and stick it there - for really long term it could even be worth the lift out fee to pop it on the hard standing as this will be much cheaper on a day to day basis so could work out cheaper in the long run vs a daily berthing fee. As for the car, I just don't have it when out cruising. It stays at whatever marina I'm paying for (eg Yelvertoft when I was there) or at family or friends. Then just use train/bus or hire one. Apparently Enterprise Car Hire will come and pick you up so it should be ideal for continuous cruisers though I've not yet tried them myself. Ditch the kids and buy a boat now. Don't wait for retirement ;-)

Once again in this video you seemed more animated than in the past. I interpret that as a good sign; that you are enjoying your life. I hope that you will not forget that you sort of promised us that you would be visiting other boats for tours. I'd rather fancy that. I still enjoy the vlogs, especially when you point out that, indeed, that was pigeon poo, or find evidence of a dog's presence on the tow path. Another great vlog! Keep 'em coming. Can't wait for the toilet one. Probably a good idea to overwinter in a marina. You'll still be able to go out for short chugs if the weather's ok. If it's a cold winter I recommend you re-visit your vlog on how to light the wood-burning stove... Now you're an experienced live-aboarder you'll be able to compare this winter with last years when you were still a rookie.

I just discovered your videos and I like them very much. This may have been addressed by previous comments but I have something to add regarding using the water hose that's not food grade. I wouldn't hesitate to use it the only thing I suggest is before you fill your tank run the water through the hose to empty the stagnant water out that is sitting in the hose because it's leaching chemicals into the water as it's been in there for maybe a week or however long between fills. Cheers

Great vlog, as usual. I will definitely attempt the quiz, as I've been enjoying your series from day one, hard to realize it's been a year! Yes, it was also morning here when the notice of your post came, the Caribbean being a far way from the canals. But if I ever returned to England it would be to live on a narrowboat. I have you to blame for that! Cheers!

I guess you have decided top stay on the boat permanently then due to the great lifestyle it offers, as I thought it was initially a year project, I have followed you from the beginning as I one day hope to do the same, thank you for sharing everything with us...

I don't know about "permanently" but I have renewed the boat's annual licence and will certainly keep going for the foreseeable future. My one year anniversary of being aboard is in October so I'm taking stock of everything round about now. I don't have anywhere else to go, anyway!!

Glad to see you're back! I must admit i've been missing you...i've a dream in my head and you help me keeping it alive. I whouldn't worry takeing things a bit slow, after all cruising is about doing things quietly or not? If we have to rush so what's the difference with ours previous life? Now a bit personal....why do you drink gin&tonic? i mean...you're a British guy you could have the greatest Pints of Ales around! and me from Italy have to spend a fortune to be allowed to drink true British Ales! Well, just joking everybody is free to get dizzy with what he likes! Really glad you're back man, and again many thanks from a true folower of yours.

I am enjoying your vlogs. I am learning from them. In the next month or so I will venture onto the cut as I and my two miniature Dachshunds swop our lovely home on dry land for a lovely new home on the waterways . I am currently going through the throws of selling my house . It is sold and now looking for a narrowboat . I live in your area and intend to find a marina mooring close by very soon.
