Ok, this might be a stretch but it could be because Loki is a shape shifter. Lemme explain, so Loki uses shape shifting to turn into different people, which means changing the structure of his own body (he turned into a snake once as said by Thor). But Thor is not a shape shifter so in order for Loki to make Thor look like Sif, he has to use illusion projection instead. That would mean he's just creating the illusion that Thor looks like Sif, he's not actually changing Thor's body structure because he can't do that.

I don't know why but the moment where Thor throws Loki at the guards while shouting "HELP HIM!" is SO DAMN FUNNY TO ME! Like- he throws Loki at them so they can help him but instead he just knocks them all over (I know that was their plan but still!) I just can't stop laughing whenever I see it
