    I’m originally from Chicago (not a great part either). I’ve been in Madison for 6-7 years.... My honest take is that Madison may have saved my life 6 years ago. There was a bit of culture shock but the bars were fun, the union was great, summer is beautiful (winter is hideous). Now that I have a family of 5 Madison has become less appealing to me. there is plenty to do with kids here, but the Madison school district has lost some of its value and home prices in the capital have just blown up! Even before Covid. Thanks guys great video.

    As an exchange student back in 2004/2005 I had to spend one school year in Madison, WI... Graduated from Lafollette and had the chance to be top scorer for the Lancer's Soccer team. I have emotional memories whenever I think of such a beautiful city and amazing friendly people. Who love to drink and party and live. LoL

    Madison is an interesting city. Lots of positives. Was much better in the 80s. Very diverse for small city. Can be frigid in winter. Young population. Crime is rising, housing prices are high and property tax is ridiculous. Lots of residents from everywhere. Locals, however, are a bit off...weird folk.

    The bike paths are great. The festivals are awesome. However, ugly looking high rises are being built all over the city, adding to density and pollution. The Madison in 10-15 years will be a mess.

  • @livinginmadisonwi

    @livinginmadisonwi

    Not sure about the high rises, they are relatively small compared to big cities. The city also limits the height on the buildings downtown to protect the gorgeous city skyline.

    @@livinginmadisonwi The new buildings are cookie cutter with little or no ornamentation and are huge by Madison standards. I’ve lived here longer than you. I do recognize that things change according to the needs of the present and future populations. These monstrosities with hilarious names like Constellation or Satellite (as if living in them is reaching for the stars) will be what future generations will live in, creating density. Of course that depends if people can afford rent.

    Buy a gun and get a carry permitm Chicago gangs are shooting it up all over the City. Expect your car to be stolen or broken into. Police rarely respond and the mayor encourages the criminals and rioters. 25 years here I am leaving for my health and to keep my property.

    It's always good to keep a gun, as I keep a fire extinguisher, but I have lived here most of my life and I have never needed it. Since I was a kid in the 80s people have been saying the big-city problems are coming to Madison. Maybe some problems have increased as the population grew, but so have good paying tech jobs. Sometimes I wonder why they don't state exactly which "big-city" problems are coming from Chicago. In any case, it's never been true. Madison is very nice.

State street used to be my happy place, now you couldn't pay me to go there. Every min I'm in Dane co I can't wait to get home. Crime is on the rise. Violence has sky rocketed.
