The naruto series has arguably the best OST of any anime. There are some that come pretty close, but tbh none is as consistently full of musical masterpieces like the Naruto series.

Shippuden was my number one for the last 14 years or so, but I cannot get over Attack on Titan's soundtrack. Hiroyuki Sawano really outdid himself with every new season.

Pain "Do you Hate me?" after getting literally nailed in the ground always crack me up

​@@quintusfabiusmaximus8700 The "weird" animation used is to show more of the emotions of both Pain and Naruto, which is consumed by anger, the fight isnt a proper fight, isn't a battle between humans, it's two monsters unleashing all they got, just to hurt, make suffers, kill his opponent. It's supposed to be messy, and you have to feels every hit. Like this one, 1:18 this one, 1:28 this one 5:10 or again this one 9:47.

No matter how many times I rewatch it, I get goose bumps every time!

Besides that, if only rods would fly around, his enemies would find easily out that there must be someone nearby who controlles them. The bodies he controlled with the rods where also a distraction for others. They would think they killed a powerfull enemy should they manage to take down one of the bodies when in reality, they only defeated one easily exchangable body. And the question can be asked: are Nagato capable to do what you are saying and simply let the rods fly around.

Naruto definitely marked my childhood. this fight is amazing, i can remember how i felt the first time seeing this. I've already tried to start all over Naruto/Shippuden but it doesn't work, I always stop and I can't finish it again.

I don't know about you guys, but the fact that they animated this episode in a way that shows Pain is just a bag of bones and flesh (dead Body) flailing around, is just spectacularly well done

i laughed at the animation a lot when i first watched this, but then i realized that during this fight naruto is legit just chakra, and he is fighting a dead body being controlled like a puppet..

Pretty badass how he pushed him to 7-8 tails while at less than half power in his puppet body without the other paths.

for anyone who criticize the animation of this episode. I think the idea was to emphasize the illustration of a demon against a dead body controlled by distance. That's why we see distortion of space and also the "funny" nail-body hitted with the rock inside the ground.

Pain: "Do you hate me?" He asked casually in the face of destruction lmaoo

"My pain is far greater than yours!" Imagine being arrogant enough to say that to a jinchuuriki.

The best arc in the entire naruto universe.

It's both impressive and terrifying how much power both the Nine tails and Pain wield. Even if Tsunade were able to fight, I don't know if she'd even be able to stop these two!

When I first saw the animation I was skeptical but the more I watch it the more I like it!!

This whole arc was so hype. I must say, I'm about halfway through shippuden and the show has yet to impress me again as much as it did here. But how can you top this?

As a guy that finished Shippuden back in early December(and Boruto just last week), Pain Arc is definitely the peak of Shippuden. The Fourth Great Ninja War was great and all, but it just didn't hit the same way as Pain Arc does.

@@Hearstbane Oh yeah the 4th Ninja War arc is still very loveable, it's just that the Pain Arc set too high of a bar for me. As for Boruto, as you said, it's a mixed bag. It's really good and really bad at times. However the show definitely picked up during the last 30 something episodes, and it's worth a watch. I'd recommend finding out what's filler and what isn't though, made me go crazy. Initally Boruto starts off fairly strong, falls off around the middle point and picks back up by the end.

Naruto vs Pain was the best part in the whole show.

Anyone else notice that each Akatsuki member uses their abilities better than much more stronger characters during War Arc and Boruto era? Pain uses the Rennegan better than Sasuke and Madara, Itachi uses the Sharingan better than Madara and Obito, Sasori uses puppets better than Chiyo and Kankuro, Deidara uses explosion release better than everyone else who used it, Kisame display better water style feats than Tobirama, Hidan swordman ship makes Suegetsu and Zabuza look like a fraud, Zetsu is better at running away and hiding than Danzo, Konan have the most unique and unexplained ability in the whole series PAPER CONTROL and Kakuzu is the only man in the series who have multiple hearts and can effectively uses all chakra nature combo better than Hiruzen, Kakashi, Orochimaru and Tsunade.

Well he pretty much wrote himself into a corner. I think he didn't intend for the series to go so long. The pain fight makes it clear that this was where you see a real monster handling THE monster. After that arc he had to top all the akatsuki and by design it would break the whole power system since each akatsuki was essentially a prodigy child turned dark. They themselves were at the edge of said power system.

I don't know why but the visual of Naruto just shooting that planetary devastation from the ground is just so funny to me

This whole arc was so f’n goated the most exciting fight ever at its time

Now just think, I watched this when it came out and nobody said there was gonna be another episode, most of us thought this was really the climax. All these people know they're only half way through the series.

The reason he can move like that is because he is using earth's magnetic core to repel himself towards the direction he wants to go and his body is just a puppet which is being controlled by Tendo(Real Nagato) which is why he isnt hurt.

The animators must have had a lot of fun in designing this scene.🤣😂

it cracks me up to see how some of them have to laugh at some points despite the fight being so epic

agreed. rikudo must be adore kurama too much to make him that strong tbh. not only this is just half of kurama's total cakra, even as half as it is, its still considerated as most powerful one beside killer bee's 8tailed, and after that not to mention ginkaku&kinkaku brothers that suck kyuubi cakra in the past too. its crazy

This could've been the turning point of the entire series to grow into something bigger. But alas everyone respawned and there were literally no consequences whatsoever. There were genuinely more consequences in DBZ and they had literal magic balls that could grant you any wish.

hands down the best episode in shippuden, top 3 at the very least, few others are as monumental and well made from start to finish

The animation for this fight really makes you feel how Yahiko's body is just a puppet being controlled my Nagato. It almost seems as if he's being pulled around rather than moving on his own free will.

He’s not a normal villain. He possessed the Rinnegan and had his own arc. Plus he was the leader of the akatsuki in the frontline, not operating in the shadows like Obito.

Studio Pierrot did really hard work on animation of this fight. Obviously, there are some scenes that look pretty cringe, but as whole, it’s just wow… There are pretty much amount of sakuga animation scenes, where you can see more than 8 frames per second.

7:30 Y’all have to remember that Nagato was only controlling ONE pain now so he was focusing all his power and attention in only ONE pain, who was also the strongest of them all, TENDŌ. That’s why he was so powerful and could compete with Naruto’s 6 tails. As you’ve seen, though, He is not strong enough to compete against 9 tails at almost full power.

This is where the real battle begins, but later Minato prevents it. So if not, Naruto will kill Pain not only pain, also a whole village and people... I think Naruto rage is unstoppable, so insane, creepy.

What always amazes me in this fight, and which we find out about later, is that this is only ‘half’ of the nine tails full power. Obviously, assuming you finished the series, we know that the other half is in Minato. So I always think that if the nine tails at half power gave Pain this much trouble, what would it have been like if Kurama had ‘all’ his power?
