@@spirit_green I knew a dude who used to stalk his local funeral home. Eventually, he got too obsessed and started hacking into their Security Cameras. A Few months after he told us he had thousands videos of nearly every female who entered the funeral home, he was arrested on a Slew of charges, totaling decades in prison. Turns out, he even had his own cameras to Leer on women inside the bathrooms. So even Children were victimized by this Low life. It took nearly 4 months for our police reports to go through, once he told us. However, He was very very unfortunate, more than even I. His mother was a Refugee, Abused not only once, But thrice. Eventually she passed, having taken her own life via Train accident. The Father never cared, and him and his siblings were split by age 5. He was the 36th kid of a 40 kid foster home. Hated. It's really hard reading that guy. Like as creepy and screwed up as these stories all are, it's very clear the culprits are just nerdy insecure assholes who know they can't do anything IRL but wanna feel powerful so they do shit like this. But in that first story although the hacker was joking a little bit, I seriously do get the sense he was a sexual pervert spying on those girls. The way he was saying she could do anything and trying to get her to do things even seeming upset she couldn't hear him as if he was desperate for a response. Thats what confuses me - I have a ring floodlight camera in front of my house. I always get a notification when I use a different computer, etc. to log in. But also, the number of hoops I have to jump through when using a browser has made the thing a pain in the ass. On a browser I have to log in re-enter the password (despite my checking the box that says to save the password), then I have ti pick out a series of pictures of ice cream-4 times, then I have to put in a code that is sent to my phone. Then I have to pick out little pictures of a deer - which is another three steps. Then it asks me if I trust the browser - which I say 'yes', then another pop up that asks 'are you sure'? At this point, I'd rather go through a home invasion. Add to that, live monitoring with the browser disconncts at exacttly 12 minutes. So you have to keep re-connecing. Ring is unusable, not to mention, way toorisky - especially inside your home.

Basically, you just said it's all the users fault that criminals victimized them. Nice attitude and a perfect example of all that's wrong in this world. Unless you're using something like hexidecimal code for your password, there's no such thing as a "secure password". And even if there were, these assholes would just blast past the company's weak firewalls and get to you from that end. I've heard plenty of experts in computer security say that password strength is a boondoggle. A handy go-to for companies to blame the user when it's rarely even their fault. These companies just don't want to admit their systems are just security theater without an ounce of real security.

or alternatively dont use the same password for every service and use a secure password with 2 factor authentication so long as there isn't some exploit that can do this, which is quite rare, they're not getting in the camera, i would put money down that all of the cases within this video are just people re-using their same passwords that got compromised in a database breach. it is very simple for someone to just bruteforce logins, they just need a database of website breaches

*Use different passwords for everything.* That is THE most important thing. If it's something that can fall to a brute force attack (this is where a program tries thousands, millions of different stuff in an attempt to get through... for example, it'll work on a .zip file on your computer, but a bank will lock your account after a few failed attempts) then use symbols and numbers and shit like they tell you. A brute force will usually start with a dictionary attack (this is where a script tries every word in the dictionary one-by-one) and often give up and move onto an easier target if it doesn't fall to that. If it's not something that can be brute forced, you have more leeway, but still don't use obvious stuff like a pet or loved one's name, "password", or the common ones like "iloveyou" (you can find a list of common passwords by googling). Generally ask yourself "if someone who knows me reasonably well, could they ever guess this?" If the answer is yes, it's a bad password. Use 2 factor authentication whenever possible. Knowing how to avoid getting hacked is only half the battle though, you have to actually do this stuff. Which a lot of people, even security professionals, often don't. I remember one of the most wanted hackers in the world got caught once because he was using his cat's name as a password.

If you have cleaners or multiple other people coming into your home and things have been missing but you don't want to accuse the wrong person; If you want to monitor your home while you're away. @John Gardner No matter what type of OS you're using, there are vulnerabilities. People do use windows (this stuff is still useful for all OSs,) so it's worth putting out there. Also, DNS pharming, cracked hashes, typo squatting, and malware are all attack vectors an attacker can use to gain access to your system without you clicking on anything suspicious. If you use the internet, those are threats to you. I got this from the same training materials institutions use to keep your info safe (when they choose to). I did a university study about this, the ammount of cameras that still have the default password and username on the internet is absurd, with just using youtube tutorials i managed to enter and watch the home security cameras of 5 people around the world, including countrys like china and spain. Remember to always change your credentials when installing a camera
