I took notes and got 8 steps! 1. match tasks to your best time of day (when concentration is best) 2. use systems/habits/automation to help with the boring stuff 3. layered learning - (have a reason to do it, then take very small steps to achieve it) 4. conquer procrastination by figuring out what things and why you are procrastinating doing those things 5. do the right thing (according to strengths and values) while managing your weaknesses 6. eliminate obstacles to productivity (learn to say no to too many commitments by delaying the decision, and create scripts and boundaries with people) 7. master self-control (make manageable to-do lists each week for each project, no more than like 3?, then put the to-dos on your agenda/calendar, triple the amount of time you think it will take to do something. 8. cut the crap - manage interruptions around you including phone, IMs, emails, (I'd include google and social media - I get soooo lost on that crap). Important to do this during your peak performance times. Oh, and I'm doing this list now to avoid doing some of the millions of items on my to-do list right now. (See items 4 and 7). hehe

Oh, and I was a really good student, but am now unemployed and directionless. For many years I thought, "but I was a good student! How could I have ADHD?" Yep, it's for real, and I'm just now realizing how not treating it/managing it has made my life hell.

Ok I tuned out of this useful lecture so will have to listen a couple of times more before I am able to implement. Thank da Lord that I know I’m not the world’s most useless person just wired differently.

I just realised something about the taking breaks part. While still in school I had those brain dead periods around 2pm. I tried to fight it when I first began having late afternoon classes and it was awful. But at some point I realised that if I let myself relax for really 10 to 20 minutes, I'd be back with full energy for the rest of the school day. So I slept. Face down with my head on my arms, in the classroom. There were few teachers who complained but they were used to me being the odd one anyway so they accepted it xD

mayapple36 There is definitely help for you. I wasn't medically diagnosed until I was 29. All plumbers aren't created equal... nor are doctors... Just visit a different M.D. I don't know your situation, but it probably wouldn't hurt to research some doctors and their methods. So that you're not paying to be told "You're Fine"... Due to a lack of understanding, a personal biased, or whatever the case may be. Initial Dr. visits to be seen for Adhd, even with insurance can be from $150-$250, if I remember correctly. A good start for info may be some local support groups online or with an app like Meet Up, mental health organizations or clinics, or just figure out some way to locate and talk to people with Adhd or other mental health needs that can give you insight with their experience with Dr's around you.

There are LOTS of jobs in Canada that don't allow for breaks. It's really harsh. Restaurants and convenience stores, for example. I had an office job where I could take breaks pretty freely. I often had days where I would have to go on really really long walks and even after that I couldn't concentrate. I do the same job from home now and it's a lot better, though I miss goofing around with the other people. I do better when I can control my hours somewhat.

It is not about BORING things! This is a false statement. ADHD people cannot concentrate on anything! With maybe exception of 1-2 subjects that interest them. They have problems with deadline, finances, emotional outbursts etc. etc. This is LIFE. Are they bored with LIFE?
