6 Different Ways To Curl Your Hair | Sam Villa
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Redken Education Artistic Director Sam Villa demonstrates 6 different ways to curl hair using a curling iron and flat iron. These techniques start off easy then progress to a more difficult skill level, so whether you are a beginner or a curling iron expert...we’ve got a tutorial for you.
View complete step by step details for each of the 6 curls here www.samvilla.com/blog/6-diffe...
Curls & Waves In This Video:
1. Flat Wrap - The flat wrap technique creates a wide yet tight wave. You'll use a curling iron for this technique.
2. Lazy Curl - This technique will produce a soft yet lazy curl. You'll use a curling iron for this technique.
3. Spiral Curl - A spring-type curl with added texture. You'll use a curling iron for this technique.
4. Red Carpet Waves - A combination of the flat wrap and spiral wrap. This is how you create gorgeous Hollywood Waves! You'll use a curling iron for this technique.
5. Push Waves with a Flat Iron (also called an S Wave) - This is a very organic and natural wave and requires the use of a flat iron.
6. Ribbon Curl with a Flat Iron - Use this method to create a slightly tighter curl or a loose curl (depending on your compression & speed).

He is a great teacher. He’s been giving back to our community for decades. He really loves what he does.
Why are there so many other professionals on here hating on him? Isn't the point of us being cosmetologists is to learn from each other's techniques and help each other? Honestly, if you think you know everything about this business then you might as well go right out the door. As for him "burning" her hair, he's doing the technique slowly in order to show us what he's doing. If he was doing this for real then he would be doing it much faster so it wouldn't cause the dents. And if you don't like the curls, then that's fine! No one is forcing you to do these on your clients. But coming on here with your nose stuck in the air claiming he's doing everything wrong is childish. Everyone does everything differently in the cosmetology world and you snooty haters aren't perfect either.

Ugh absolutely. I could not pay attention in grade school for the life of me.. high school got a little better, college was the best because I had amazing professors who were passionate about the field and took the time to actually explain things even though they were speaking to 100+ students at times.

I think that's the most informative hair tutorial I have ever watched on KZread, in depth instructions and great close ups

Excellent tutorial and so generous for this knowledgable professional to want to share his techniques. You can tell he really wants to teach you and have you understand the whys and hows of what is being done. Thank you Sam!!
Finally a video that shows how to get nice curls!! And all the styles!! I used not to make curls very often because I thought it was difficult but Sam explained it so easy! Great job and thank you for sharing your tips with us! I will start to practice :)
I wanted to tell you thank you! you helped me curl my hair perfectly for a Gatsby dance I was performing in using the watch technique! everyone kept complimenting me on my hair saying how beautiful it looked! :)
I love this video!! I'm a slow learner, but I understand and memorized every steps you taught Sam! Love the wave and ribbon curl. :) Thank you so much!!!

This was an excellent tutorial for understanding how to achieve different curl styles! I never knew how the twists and wraps created the ridges and valleys of the curl. I feel like I've just upped my hair game significantly after this video!
My favorite is the S curl. Being a big fan of 1940s wavy hair I'm always looking for ways to get face frame S waves. This is the easiest way to do it! Also I love the way Sam demonstrates the technique then asks questions to see if you get it. Thank you again for another great video!
I'm an expert with the curling iron.. You just helped take my skill to another level. Thanks for sharing
You sir, are a brilliant teacher! Detailed and wonderfully explained video
I love this guy's tutorials: professional, educational, maybe they're more for doing someone else's hair rather your own but super interesting techniques [the cutting as well as styling ones]. I trust this professional skills level
Thank you Sam villa!! I shared an elevator with you before (in New Orleans at the behind the chair show) knowing just a tiny bit about you but right now I am learning so much from you on your KZread video series. I love my thinning shears and new brush and am planning on getting some more of your tools! You inspire me. Thank you so much for sharing your passion with the hair world. You're a gift from God! am so thankful that I found your channel 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
Mr. Villa, I was redirected here from the Redken site, and I must say this video may have changed my life! I am 50 years old and just realized, as important as curls are to me, I have been doing it all wrong. Your teaching style is spectacular. I cannot wait to try these techniques and watch your other videos! I thank you *so* much for taking the time to educate!
Your an excellent teacher, thank you! People do not appreciate what you are giving them, as when i trained to be a stylist in the UK many years ago, at College, we only had books, teacher demonstrations, and the odd video tutorials. The trainees today do not know they are born with the internet and youtube. If we had to learn other techniques, we had to pay for courses that cost alot of money...so guys out there, please be more appreciative, you are truly lucky to be able to watch these professionals, for free really! Best wishes, Anna UK! 💕
This looks like so much fun! Too bad KZread wasn't around when I was younger. My hair would have looked so much different!
90 percent of these comments I am scrolling through are incredibly rude! I cannot believe how disrespectful people can be to someone they don't even know personally know. Sam Villa is an exceptional hair dresser and mentor, very widely know for his art and technique. All I keep reading is "dat girls hair fried" or "that old guy is __". If only people had as much confidence in their words in real life, as they do on the internet.

@@jenaguila4193 I haven’t left rude comments but as a master stylist with 20 years behind the chair, I am disappointed in Sam (of all people) missing the mark on so much so far (halfway in and I take issue with multiple things he is doing that will absolutely NOT produce an ideal result) I normally love Sam but this is shockingly bad, from a professional standpoint
This is my first time watching this guy but I just gotta say, I love him!!
You are the Master. Some of this is new to me. Some I forgot. Thank you, Sam Villa. You are a true artist. I appreciate sooo much! Kudos, my friend.

I ved watched a lot of videos about styling hair, but i like the way that Sam Villa demonstrate it.. and i dont see anything wrong in the way he talked, its perfect! I feel inspired and sure i will never forget his reminders.. i just love it..thanks for the useful tips.. i hope i will have chance to chat with u because i want to learn a lot more.. and to those people who are commenting not so good.. better not to comment if u didnt like the way he presents, just be thankful that ur learning something for free.. if u didnt like it, he is not forcing u to do it anyway..peace!
Sam! I am sitting here grinning at the screen, I am pretty sure I look crazy LOL!!! Thank you so much, how fascinating! I love it...thank you so very much for sharing your skill with us!!!!!!
I love the way this man speaks, kudos to the video!
I love this! Love how Sam explained the detail rather than just doing it as well as using a flat iron not just a curling iron!!
I love you Sam villa! I love your modern techniques, and how you break through traditional barriers. Love you!!

I have 20 years experience behind the chair, as a master stylist I have learned a thing or two and there are several issues I find with this video, and I’m only 6 minutes in. I won’t mention the iron mark in the hair because he touched on it. First of all, the sections he is taking are way too large if you want the curl to last. Secondly, he immediately combs through the curl, which will also virtually ensure that the curls will not last! They need to cool off before brushing through with fingers or otherwise. Also I generally will not curl towards the face right at the hairline (obviously depending on the desired style) because it will make the hair in the face rather than opening the face up by curling away from. Most people don’t want to hide their faces behind their curls. And I’m only 6 minutes in!!!
Many thanks Sam. Love to see your passion for hair, also for sharing your insperation and love of teaching to others. I could sit for hours to watch you work, you are an amazing professional, to our craft of hairdressig.I have been hairdressing for the last 48years in the UK, what an amazing career to be involed in.
that hair is GORGEOUS!
He ist the Bob Ross of Hair Art
OK I'm a professional stylist.. What are these comments , " the hair looked fried" " did u see the smoke"? " there's a major gap in the hair"? ...uhhhhh for one is any hair that has been processed perfect? ( NO) ..THE smoking hair is the product it seals the curl! And the " gap" is what let's the curl fall from top of head to head its ur base point for a curl.. Common . jeeze.

Not all of the viewers are "Professional stylists " so a few words that are "common" to a pro might make it easier to understand the entire technique AND recreate it ourselves when the salon isn't an option.

People need to stop whining like five year olds who didn't get the toy they wanted in the store. This guy is AMAZING! Girls, don't be jealous because a guy can do hair better than you. If you don't like the way the curls look them back out of the video! Simply say, I really don't like the way he does this but if others like it then that's great! Don't be like, These are the worst curls I have ever seen. ~(a girl actually made that comment down below) Her hair looks great. You must be blind or some shit.
