You forgot the most important thing about Barrett winning KOTR. The only reason they gave Barrett the win was because the fans were cheering for him as his Bad News gimmick. So they killed the gimmick.

Just imagine the early-years lineage of KotR as a PPOV if Shawn had won in 1995. 1993 - Bret Hart 1994 - Owen Hart 1995 - Shawn Michaels 1996 - Steve Austin 1997 - Triple H Instead we get Mabel right in the middle of that run.

Glad King Booker is being acknowledged as one of the best Kings of the Ring. I dont feel like anyone has truly felt elevated as KOTR since

King Kurt - who as a result, got a shot at the WWE Title at SummerSlam 2000 & Brock Lesnar - who won the WWE Title at SummerSlam 2002.

King Booker will always be my favorite. He even brings the character back every now and then.

The worst part of Wade Barrett winning was that when he won, he was the most over gimmick on the roster with the Bad News gimmick. That was going to elevate him, and it was! Then they shifted him to the King gimmick, which blew. Then they put him in the League of Nations, which damn near killed him. Why have him adopt the gimmick if it's not needed?

Shocked Brock didn’t make the best list. This is a great top 6 but when it comes to using the king of the ring to elevate a new star I don’t think anyone’s benefitted directly from it as Brock.

Little surprised Xavier Woods or Baron Corbin did not make it into the worst list. Even as honourable mentions.

I'm surprised as well all Corbin did was feud with Roman over dog food and Xavier is just another case of Vince just putting the crown on someone random then not giving a crap about the next day and had Roman humiliate him after words that lead to no world title match. Hopefully HHH gives this tournament a fresh start.

Because Baron Corbin actually made good use of the gimmick and was one of the top heels for the entire time of his gimmick

@@khesipresents1885 So you're saying William Regal's career post 2008 has been a waste of time then? Because when you make those BROAD declarations you're also throwing him under the bus. Regal, more than anyone, knows that a career full of stop starts is worth getting back up again to do. He is a guy who has fallen so many times but has stayed up even more. They dropped Regal for the reason they dropped RVD, RVD was very early in his role as diplomatic ambassador and Regal had not even reached it. It's like one guy failing 2 weeks into the job and a guy who hadn't got the job failing before he got it. It's really all about investment. They had only just started investing in RVD and were beginning to invest in Regal when they had their slip ups with drugs. Wwe wants to be able to rely on its main eventers to be businessmen, if you become main event level in wwe you'll start doing media appearances more gradually. Be a company representative. Regal is a big boy, he wouldn't say any of it overall was a waste of time and they've all agreed with each other that he f'ed up. He had a long history of drug abuse, he was a risk anyway that they decided to take a chance on but they backed out because he showed signs of being less dependable than hoped. Get over it it's 16 years ago and nobody involved in it is bitter about any of it lol

Honestly, a lot of the “worsts” are the fault of bad booking…. So they are Vince McMahon’s fault.

Even the British Bulldog in 1995 would've been a better choice than Mabel. It would've kept up an interesting trend of keeping the crown within the extended Hart family for a third year in a row and Bulldog would turn heel just a couple months later anyway, winning King of the Ring would've been a nice catalyst for that rather than him just turning on Diesel in a tag match out of nowhere.

I love Owen.... but i personally can't give him number 1 on this list... as stated in this video... Booker turned his King gimmick into a successful heel world title run... Owen's legacy doesn't change much without the king gimmick.... but King Booker is an integral part of Booker T's legacy... he changed how he spoke.. how he carried himself... his entrance music.... and this is all on the back side of a wrestlemania storyline and ill fated loss that would've put 2 in the back of the head of most other careers... Booker on the other hand jumped nipples deep into the gimmick and it shouldn't have worked.... but not only did it work... but he flourished

I feel like King Corbin could of been on Worst Kings, just because he was in that position due to being the constable of RAW at the time, and the only things that can be remembered about his reign are being drenched in dog food, and becoming Sad Baron Corbin (a gimmick we lost way too soon). Idk, I guess having those moments are better than just not being memorable at all, so maybe that's why he's not on the list.

3:00 I think Austin is also thankful for Triple H, Shawn, Razor and Diesel breaking character and allowing him to win that year instead of Triple H. Maybe we would’ve never had 3:16 if they hadn’t.

I do think Austin would have eventually broken through and maybe gotten a slight variation of the speech, but it was the right place at the right time

I always feel bad whenever I remember the final days of Wade Barrett's run and becoming the King. I always had hoped he would be at least world Heavyweight champion material, and his only 2 major Accomplishments were being a King and a 5 time intercontinental champion

You forgot to mention that Yokozuna, Shawn Michaels and the Undertaker took part in the King of the Ring touranemt which was won by Big Daddy V ... boy did 1995 WWE suck!

I said this in the last king of the ring video. I am saying it again. You gotta do can you name every king and queen of the ring in either reverse chronological order or just any order. That would make a good survival series episode.

Honestly surprised Xavier Woods isn't on the worst section. All he did was have a terrible fued with Roman Reigns (which only happened cause they needed to build Roman V Big E for Survivor Series but Big E was on RAW fueding with Lashley so I guess Woods was a spiritual fill in cause New Day?) And not even 3 months later after winning the tournament completely dropped the king gimmick...seriously what was the point...

"Well here's the fat king." That was kind of dickish. And Booker T is the #1 best king. He played it to perfection and took it to a title reign.

Mabel wore cape, crown, had an entourage lifting up to the ring and had a championship match at a top 4 ppv. I get that he is bot the best in-ring worker, but that resume alone doesnt scream bad king....he acknowledge how great winning the KOTR got Bret back in main event scene...why shit on Mable then for the same reason? Not his fault he got put in that position. Tempest is such a mark.

Regal is the only winner to sit in that chair and make it look menacing the way he eyes up the crowd is superb ,shame it went south

I actually met Mabel right before he died at an indie show in Arkansas. He was a nice guy, but definitely not a good king. 💀

Barrett’s reign as king hurts more because he already had a new gimmick as Bad News Barrett which I remember actually got over with the crowd. What was the point of abandoning it!

Think you're a bit harsh on Shamrock lol, you have to understand what the time was like. 1998 wasn't successful because of booking, it was successful because everybody was either the best they'd ever been or close to it and Shamrock was very much a part of that. He became part of a believable trio of contenders that feuded with each other along with The Rock and Mankind, the three of them were in the title picture at an extremely hot time. While Shamrock went out of the title picture, he was still probably the biggest upper mid carder there was an him being in The Corporation was a great 'get' to have, Vince recruited him to be his assassin particularly. Shamrock had a pretty good aftermath. He and Owen were already feuding anyway so there was nothing bizarre about continuing the feud. Soon as it was ended he had 2 months of being in the main event scene. It was like 6 teams in an extra competitive title race and Ken Shamrock just happened to drop off first (Austin, Kane, Undertaker, Rock, Foley and Shamrock)

Owen Hart, had he lived to see 2001-2009 WWE, would be considered the greatest wrestler of all time today. I'd be willing to bet money on that.

Would have liked to see king woods on this list. It meant a lot to him to win but he didn’t really do much with it.

Awesome list... I loved Owen Hart, still do. But for me personally, King Booker was the best "king" in WWE.

Regal winning king of the ring, and then Intercontinental championship in the UK are some of my favorite memories from that otherwise crap era of WWE tv. I wholeheartedly disagree with Regal being the worst anything . He’s one of the greatest of all time and deserves way more respect.

If in 2 years time at the King of the Ring, I'm not defending a title, or in a match... and my 'very special assignment' is to go to WWF New York and eat a Meatball sandwich? Then please.. just shoot me in the head. 1999 is SO 2 years ago, and it's not my fault, if you've done a big pile of nothing since then. And commissioner(Regal) I vow to you.. that I will not 'Billy Gunn' this King of the Ring title. I hereby decree, that the first act in the Era of Awesomeness... will be to totally annihilate.. Billy B*tchcakes." even Regal's reaction showed how bad Edge buried him there. Like I said, everyone brings up The Rock, but it was Edge's promo on Billy Gunn's King of the RIng failure that put the nail in him and it was even more brutal than The Rock's.

Me!! I’m the one to say that’s the case. Everyone talks these days about how Bret is the GOAT. Owen was so much better.

I honestly wonder how we will view Triple H's WWE by the time WM46 rolls around. Because it's going to take a lot of time for that Vince stank to be washed clean. So far, beginning Summerslam 2022, so good but still.....we're still climbing out from the absolute bowels of what Vince thought was good shit.

Unpopular opinion: Billy Gunn was far worse of a KOTR than Mabel. At least Mabel was memorable and got a world title match at Summerslam out of it.

The League of Nations had legitimate go away heat at some points. My other issue with King Barret was that it ended Wade's arguably best run. Bad News Barret was effin great!
