Meat is animal flesh that is eaten as food.[1] Humans have hunted and killed animals for meat since prehistoric times. The advent of civilization allowed the domestication of animals such as chickens, sheep, rabbits, pigs and cattle. This eventually led to their use in meat production on an industrial scale with the aid of slaughterhouses.
Meat is mainly composed of water, protein, and fat. It is edible raw, but is normally eaten after it has been cooked and seasoned or processed in a variety of ways. Unprocessed meat will spoil or rot within hours or days as a result of infection with and decomposition by bacteria and fungi.
Meat is important to economies and cultures, but the production and consumption of meat pose risks for human health, animal health, and the environment. Vegetarians and vegans do not eat meat for reasons such as the ethics of eating meat, the environmental effects of meat production, the health effects of meat consumption, or religious dietary rules. The word meat comes from the Old English word mete, which referred to food in general. The term is related to mad in Danish, mat in Swedish and Norwegian, and matur in Icelandic and Faroese, which also mean 'food'. The word mete also exists in Old Frisian (and to a lesser extent, modern West Frisian) to denote important food, differentiating it from swiets (sweets) and dierfied (animal feed).
Most often, meat refers to skeletal muscle and associated fat and other tissues, but it may also describe other edible tissues such as offal.[1]: 1  Meat is sometimes also used in a more restrictive sense to mean the flesh of mammalian species (pigs, cattle, lambs, etc.) raised and prepared for human consumption, to the exclusion of fish, other seafood, insects, poultry, or other animals.[2][3]
In the context of food, meat can also refer to "the edible part of something as distinguished from its covering (such as a husk or shell)", for example, coconut meat.[3]
In English, there are also specialized terms for the meat of particular animals. These terms originated with the Norman conquest of England in 1066: while the animals retained their English names, their meat as brought to the tables of the invaders was referred to them with the Norman French words for the respective animal. In time, these appellations came to be used by the entire population.[4]

    I don't trust humans, especially those in the meat marketing trade. I have more love and compassion towards animals than i do humans. I don't have any pets. But to kill an innocent living thinking animal somewhat disturbs my mind. All Just for the sake of humans wanting to make money! The horrific terrifying noises of these animals being tortured to death whilst struggling for survival makes me feel sick!!! It is something that nightmares are made of!

    " Vegetarians and vegans do not eat meat for reasons such as the ethics of eating meat, the environmental effects of meat production, the health effects of meat consumption, or religious dietary rules." Let's break this sentence down. " the ethics of eating meat" That is a matter of personal opinion. "the environmental effects of meat production" That is an argument against factory farming of livestock. It is not an argument against eating meat. "the health effects of meat consumption" There are pluses and minuses to this, just as there are for any other dietary choice. " or religious dietary rules." That is not an argument against eating meat, it's simply a personal choice to follow a faith based belief.

    Let's see here. Eating meat helps with: 1. Reduces and helps the overgrowing farm animal population 2. Reduces the population (and keeps it stable) of cows and pigs which release methane into the air which pollutes and destroys the ozone layer and results in millions of deaths a year. 3. Has one of the best supplies for protein 4. You can cook it in many ways and there are so many different types of meat for many different health purposes 5. You can cook it and season it any what you want 6. You can easily top it off with healthy vegetables and other healthy add-ons, plus meat is one of the main dishes served in cultural food around the world. You only think meat is junk because of McDonald's, but you fail to understand that McDonald's never invented meat, plus it's a fast food so their cooking doesn't define what meat is supposed to be like, not in the slightest.

The population of pigs and cows wouldn't be so large if they weren't bred and born to be killed and there are many many cultures that are strict vegetarians yet thrive. Then there's the reality that the mean we eat today from farms of disease and antibiotics aren't what our ancestors would have dreamed of eating. I'm not even vegan yet your comment disturbs me

  • @shayshawbear3865

    @shayshawbear3865

    @@preciousgold8650 Alright let's see, if we didn't breed livestock to be used as meat and let them roam free, they would be an invasive species to the area which harms the environment around it, plus I guarantee that the numbers of them will only increase because the number of these animals that are bred can only be so many because a factory can't fit all of them if they were to breed as they wish. Also they already release a ton of methane into the air as is which destroys our ozone so the meat industry is actually doing a favor for us on that end. Also name one successful vegetarian culture that doesn't use any meat whatsoever, that doesn't only include dishes it also includes products. Ah, I also forgot to mention that one of the only ways you can get diseases from meat is if you have it raw or if it is moldy/old. Our ancestors didn't worry about that because they cooked their meat. I've also heard of people go on a carnivore diet (eating only meat for about 1-3 months) and gain a ton of muscle, feel more active than they've ever been, their hygiene has improved, their skin is more clear, and they have little to no cravings because meat is packed with protein and is filling.
