Welcome to the world of VLD's. It doesn't matter whether its a hunting or target bullet, It the secant ogive, they are very sensitive to seating depth. Seating depth usually makes a big difference with them.

Can't seem to post a link to a Berger article on this called "getting-the-best-precision-and-accuracy-from-vld-bullets-in-your-rifle." This is ridiculous.

Bingo, Berger’s are nice bullets, but not very forgiving. They are capable of amazing accuracy and consistency when dialed in for seating depth.

Those groups aren't anything to be ashamed of, but also nothing to write home about. We get spoiled easily with a rifle and hand loads that shoot 1/2" groups.

It's the winchester primers. I've had issues with them gas cutting my bolt. I think they're under sized compared to others. No issues with cci or federal.

I've got some Hornady 105's loaded with IMR 4895 to test next range day. I stopped at about 26.0 grains as that was where compression began. I hope this combo works as a temp stable one. You might have better results with seating farther off the lands and testing your load at the lower end range. Good info, I enjoy your journey with 6 arc!

A bit surprised with primer issue & pressure. Groups weren't terrible. But...again surprised not a bit tighter & more consistent. Looked like a good combo to me.

When you get back to this project, try LeverEvolution with the bullet. I got 3000fps in my Switchback with it and a 95g Sierra Tipped Match King using Hornady's load data to work my way up . Generally low SD's as I did my ladder.

Enjoying these ARC videos, which seater/die works good on the vld’s, also was interested in finding out if H4350 would be any good with this cartridge

  • @RobsReloading

From what I can tell h4350 is too slow/bulky. I had good results with R17 but it is a less bulky powder. Maybe someday I will test it, but think velocities will be low and compression high. I'm using the factory stem in the Hornady die. Haven't pushed a lot of compressed loads yet, but it has not caused an issue.

@@RobsReloading The Hornady A-Tip bullets are pointy like these. I tried the 397139 A-Tip seating stem on the Bergers, both the 95g and 108g hunting bullets and it seemed like a better match than the regular Hornady seating stem.

Thanks for all of your hard work. In reference to the 6MM arc that I am now switching to for coyote, what in your research is the best powder and bullet to start with. I'm switching from 204 Ruger to the Arc. And, would u suggest Hornady brass over resizing Grendel brass. I'm seeing a lot of interest in the 87 grain bullet, thanks for your input. Also, your thoughts and test with H4589 powder.

If you have access to 6 arc brass it is ideal, but I had no issue re-sizing 6.5 Grendel brass. I have some videos with the 87gr vmax as well. I've enjoyed my 6 arc since the start. It's a great cartridge.

Thanks, I won't have Hornady brass till I do test firing. I'm thinking ill try the resized Grendel. I'm sure of the lower weight bullets, but powder is my question. On Hodgden data sheet, they don't show data on H4589 past 80 grain bullets. I'm guessing because of the burn rate or something. I'm open for suggestions if possible on powder with that weight ammo. This is also the powder I used with the 204 is why I'm mentioned. I've watched most all of your Arc videos. Thanks again

I would be interested in seeing data on the heaviest bullet you think you could shoot that achieved 3000fps, I saw data from a guy somewhere who got a 95 grain Sierra MK tipped to 3000fps, I don't remember the powder he used, but he also had a longer barrel I believe a 24" , I know your not too happy with Berger but maybe a Berger VLD in the 88-90 grain range? Sierra's next heaviest bullet from 95 grain drops all the way to 70 grain. I see quite a few guys shooting ARC happy with the results they are seeing wtih LeverEvolution.

Did you ever figure out the primer issue? I'd bet its the Winchester primers. I have a box of Winchester LRP's I've been trying to finish with burner and fire forming loads. They always flatten no matter how mild the load. Too soft I guess.

I don't know much about this chambering. It's seems very efficient for the volume of powder that you've loaded. Do you have much experience with the 6mm Creedmoor? If so, do you prefer the ARC or the Creedmoor?

  • @RobsReloading

    @RobsReloading

I don't have a 6 creedmoor, and would be 3-400fps faster than 6arc. 6 creed has very short barrel life vs the ARC. I am looking at getting a 6GT. That would be more comparable to 6 creedmoor.
