#6 1000 Kilometers through Europe // Bike Touring

We finally crossed the 1000km milestone!!! Yay! We are finally getting more comfortable with wild camping and finding great spots gets easier. As with almost everything in life, practice makes perfect…although we had to learn the hard way! I documented how we struggled finding a spot for the night and how much dedication and preparation can be necessary when camping….

I live in Burgos - it has unpredictably cold weather, even in summer. But it's a very nice city, glad you shared some of it in the video. Congratulations on all your inspiring bike travels.

You were a lot happier in this video. Maybe the start of warmer weather had something to do with improving your mood?

A pretty girl in beautiful scenery got me here. Alec, this is your history too. I'm a pensioner in NZ and wish I had done what you two are doing, maybe in a van. Are all Germans fluent in english? When in France, very few people would speak english, which I thought was more a stubborn reaction than a fact. Thanks for the vlog, take care, land mines in Boznia are obvious.

I think most Germans below the age of 30-40 are pretty fluent in English. Above that, it’s a fewer percentage. But my lovely grandmother for example watches all of my videos and she speaks English. To be honest, after having worked with mostly French colleagues for 2,5years, I would definitely say most french don’t speak English that well (if at all)…there are exceptions of course 😊 thank you for that nice comment & greetings to NZ (it’s next on my bucket list!)

haha, funny to think of Burgos as cold, it was 40 degrees when we were there a few years ago. Mike's kick stand on his bike broke on our journey as well. Great video, going to check out your journey, maybe something for us to do next year :-)

The temperatures were crazy! It had been 35-40 °C the week before there apparently!

€42 for 3kg is a ridiculously high price specially when compared to a specific postal service they have that takes your bike anywhere within the Iberian peninsula, including a new bike box, for €50. Also, when we receive things from shopping online they only cost about €10 from Germany to Portugal. Anyways, once again a very enjoyable video and yes, it can get very cold in these parts of the world and when you add the humidity, the cold goes right to your bones.

German post ist crazy cheap, so I guess it is just the other way around so expensive! 😬 we were super shocked too!

It’s a shame you have persisted in wild camping when there is such a good infrastructure for albergues along the Camino and they can be so so cheap, it removes the issue with wild camping spots

We did albergues and absolutely hated it! It was horrible, except for 1 albergue, all the others were the worst!

Maybe they just prefer to be in their tent than a noisy dirty hostel lacking privacy. I hate staying in hostels never get a good night sleep either kids or drunks slamming doors or rustling plastic bags late at night or noisy fat pigs who keep you awake all night with their snoring. No, not for me.
