I'd say it is kinda worth it as a consistent collection of roms and matching assists takes a long time to build up. The hardest thing I find with retro gaming is finding and downloading all the content. It can be done for free of course but if you have the money, this is a very simple way to get an awesome archive of games and associated assets.

I recently downloaded all lincensed games for SNES, all lincensed games for N64 and the top 100 games for PS1. Both the romset of SNES and N64 I cured for myself uses 1gb and 5gb respectively, but just the top 100 games for PS1 takes more than 83gb of space... I have them all on my POCO X5 phone, but my phone also have 256gb storage. for PS2, having all ROMs you would need at least 3TB space to have them all. Sinceraly, for both snes and n64, just download all of them, 6gb is nothing nowadays, but for ps1 and ps2 I suggest to just download the top 100 best games, and even tho I probably won't play them all but at least you would have the best 100 games of both platforms.

It's illegal..there's no doubt. However, there are not many companies that can make money on old consoles, even with ps3. Gaming companies knew and they tried to crack down on piracy in the early '90s to 2000s and it didn't help. People would find another way to disseminate bootlegs. Too many resources spent on it..therefore they have given up going after piracy. Now if you're to pirate ps5 games , Sony would definitely go after you.

My collection took me around 6 years to get where it is today, and it’s only around 1/3rd this size. Some of those ROMs and ISOs can be hard to find, and my gosh can it be time consuming. I’ve got my library backed up on 2 drives in my PC, my NAS, and an external hard disk. I’d cry if I lost all my years spent cultivating my library. This seems like a good option for someone who just wants to play some cool old games. There’s a lot of junk and copies on here, games I would never touch. That’s the main advantage with a hand picked library, everything in mine is stuff that means something to me, or games I’ve researched and want to play. I’d highly recommend it. Nothing better than coming home after a stressful day at work, locking myself in my den with a 6 pack and shutting the world out while I play some classics.

Great video. You got most of the points out like the duplicates. Do you know what version of MAME it is using? I know there are different versions with different support. Most of the builds is using the older Mame 2000 or 2003 version which some of the functionalities are missing from the newer 2008 and newer version. Also would be good if you include a quick review of the cheat systems. Back a few decades ago, since I did not have much money for games, I don't mind spending days on the same game and hours to gain one or two level up. Arcade games are known to be quarter munchers or invisible bullets taking you out like Terra Cresta when you have all 5 pieces.

Problem is hard drives are outdated now, so it's not surprising you can get 5TB fairly cheap. Most people value speed though and this also applies to storage so I think 1 to 2 TB of NVMe storage is what most gaming builds will have. Even most servers use NVMe drives for popular videos or services then offload the rest onto hard drives. People want fast access, and hard drives just can't do it. They're the floppy disks of today compared to NVMe.

@@portman8909 unless youre making constant file transfers, theres not much benefit to using solid state for storage. Traditional hard drives are not outdated, that would mean they have no uses at all. Traditional hard drives are still the most cost effective mass storage option. Youll want an SSD to put the operating system on, but for most processes after the computer is already on, the difference in speed is imperceptible. A 5400 RPM spinning drive is already more than fast enough to run a game, modern or otherwise, at near optimal performance.

Yeah if we do some quick math here: 1. There's a little over 4000 games released for the PS2 alone (something like 4300ish) 2. Each PS2 game might be anywhere from 1GB-4.5GB, so for a conservative estimate let's average 2GB per game 3. That puts us at 2GB * 4000 games = 8TB MINIMUM for actually "every" PS2 game. It seems like they have a similar ratio for each console's quantity of games, since the PS2 takes up about a quarter of that hard drive, but they have maybe 1/8 of the total games actually released for the consoles. Which is still insane, mind you, but a far cry from the "entire library".

here's the thing, Firstly it's missing some key systems due to the game file sizes, most of these roms could be downloaded reasonably fast as they are quite small. I have most of these and other systems included full Wii, GameCube, Wii U and a fair bit of PS3. My drive as its sitting is close to 11TB and I will need double that for ps4 and on. Also note that only about 50% of the games on this drive are going to work as they take a fair bit of tweaking so don't expect to be able to play everything. Thirdly you'll get no support from the seller as this is technically illegal. Also don't expect the seller to be around very long, these people tend to pop up and disappear quickly when they get a S&D letter. It's also against amazons TOS agreement so they will be gone soon. All this can be done for free (Mostly) but takes a lot of time so if you have extra time but not money, I encourage people to give it a try on their own. only cost would be time, a launchbox license and a Hard drive, I suggest getting the biggest drive you can afford. have fun!

@@chimrichalds81 noob? Haha I have been building arcades for the better part of 10 years. I have purchased an owned many of these drives. You can also read the reviews from this very product that says literally the same thing I did. It’s an opinion and a fact that many of these drives have issues because generally speaking they don’t curate the collection, they just dump a bunch of games on it and hope it works. Also how do you know I don’t own it? Do we know each other? You’re making a lot of assumptions with very little information. It doesn’t make it bad, but people should know it’s not always as simple as plug and play even though that’s how they sell them. Your a little too passionate about this hard drive I think. I’m guessing you ether work for this company or your a bot or troll.

@@A2ZGeek So far I have tested 639 games. So far I have only had 2 that didn't work and I may be able to get them to work if I put some time into it. I already owned about 10,000 roms, but to download this collection would take some time since I can only download a terabyte a month on my plan and we already use around 600-700 gigs a month. I am like the others, I deleted the PC stuff which gave me about another terabyte on the drive for storing classic roms.

The first systems you should always check are Playstation 1 and N64. Playstation 1 to see if they included games with the music and N64 for no slow down, they still haven't perfected this system. The best backup system for the N64 was the Z64, the Chinese need to be mass producing that system from the late 90's that piggy backs on the actual system using zip disk. I still own 2.

I really like to keep old and otherwise unaccessible games preserved and playable through projects like these, but I don't know how to feel about new and recent PC games also being on there. Those may actually hurt those indie devs putting their stuffs on steam and already trying to make it as accessible. I think it would be better if they solely focus on discontinued consoles and platforms.

@@XboxAlive Whether he's cool or not, this drive looks terrible in comparison to the hundreds or thousands of similar "products" out there. Never mind how many KZreadrs are covering it, there's certainly nothing in this video to suggest that this is "as cool as it gets" for anything. It's an automatic fail for dividing up the systems between three (!) different front ends; and, despite the stupid click-bait title, it does not have close to "every game ever". It may have every MAME game ever, but that's generally a bad thing. Saw a Mahjong game scroll by in the MAME section, so expect there are thousands more of those in there, not to mention multiple versions of the same games with cryptic information in the names (e.g. Revision 4B) and it will be hard to tell which (if any) of them work. And given the slap-dash effort on virtually everything shown in the video, imagine many of those games will require configuration to work properly and still more will fail to load at all. Save your $200, assuming this "deal" is still available somewhere. There are many others out there and they vary wildly in both quality and quantity of games, but it's very hard to tell which are worthwhile from the ad copy or from KZread "reviews". For those looking for something to connect to a TV, there are tons of "flight decks" and faux consoles on Amazon for around $150-300, but they generally have just MAME and the oldest of console games. Maybe they have newer ones now, as it's been years since I looked at those. Google "amazon pandora box arcade". There are also tons of demonstrations of these things on YT (going back many years) and many can be upgraded with your own collection of legally sourced games. :) Edit to add: A quick search of Amazon (US) turns up a "console" that seemingly features this same software, even advertising the 3-in-1 split (as if it is a bonus), plus a 5400RPM HDD. It's under $200, but still a poor choice. As I recalled, there are hundreds, if not thousands of similar products listed.
