Last year’s wrap up is what led to me jumping into the retro handheld space and getting a Miyoo Mini. But I’ve continued watching these videos and so I also got a RP3+ and Miyoo Mini Plus. Now I’m in the process of setting up my Odin 2 and I’ve been setting up Mini Pluses for a bunch of my coworkers and family. 😂 Russ, thank you for the hard work that you put into all of your high quality videos.

Russ, I just wanna thank you for all you do. Earlier this year I picked up a RG350P and used your Adam Image guide to set up as a Christmas gift for my father. He got me into gaming in the early 90's and to this day (me in my upper 30's and him in his 60's) we still reminisce about those experiences, so I thought it'd make for a nice surprise. Although, in retrospect, I kind of wish I'd waited as new systems are out now in the $60 range with better specs. Thanks again, Merry Christmas and keep up the awesome work!

Miyoo mini plus dipped my toes in the retro handhelds. Loved it so much, I got all 4 colors. I've curated my own sd card and had a blast doing it. Gifting two of them to my kids for Christmas. Currently looking for an horizontal handheld upgrade to level up. Trimui smart pro was looking good, but the performance and negative reviews made me look away. I hope it gets better in 2024. Cant wait for new handhelds that come out next year. After turning 40, I really enjoy these retro handhelds. My XBOX series S is just collecting dust. Thank you.

I purchased a Miyoo Mini Plus for my bday earlier this year (paid a bit higher as I ordered on Amazon though) and it's excellent. I have other retro handhelds (modded 3DS XL and PS Vita) but I'm really impressed with the Miyoo and how small it is and how many games it plays. I second your recommendation of that device at that price point, and it was because of videos like yours that I bought one. thank you.

As a newcomer in the whole retro handheld community (my first and only device before was a LDK Game Landscape 😅) I'm amazed at how far we've come to very polished, affordable and super nice retro emulation experience on these devices. My picks during the November sales were the RGB30 and the R36S and I absolutely love the RGB30. JELOS is a joy to use and the square screen is perfect for what I wanted : Gameboy / SNES / Pico-8 and SHMUPS. I've also been playing Mario & Luigi Partners in Time on the DS for the first time and it's been a joy to use. However I also bought the Miyoo Mini Plus for a couple of friends for Christmas and that combined with OnionOS is probably one of the most premium and polished feeling devices I've ever held. For 40$ it was just an absolute steal. The build quality and all the buttons feel so good to use it really elevates your gaming experience compared to the RGB30 and the R36S. Really hope the Miyoo Flip is real and will be just as amazing 🙏

Glad to see the Powkiddy X55 is still on the list. It's my first handheld and apart from the somewhat cheap-feeling build quality (not just the shell and the paint job, but also the buttons), it's been good. Plays up to PS1 just fine. Since I'm mainly into NES, SNES, Genesis and PS1 games, I'm all good. I tried Sega CD games too, something I think few people actually play, and they've been pretty good except for Sonic CD which crashes all the time.

For the "Steam Deck VS ROG Ally" discussion, I believe that there is a specific case for each one and it makes more sense to keep both only if you are not someone looking to play AAA games all the time (in that case, I would say that the Ally it's a bit better). From time to time, I see myself back to the SD just by the convenience and battery life when playing an indie game or something that has low to mid specs. Happy end of the year, Russ!

No I thought it was funny, cause I had literally gotten a sandwich and a drink and sat down to watch a video and first thing I hear is to get a snack and drink. Odin 2 looks like the way to go with me too. We literally have dozens of competent handhelds and it comes down to preference and use case. And many of them are very similar in spec and price, so hard to find a clear winner.... But the Odin 2 costs a little more, but plays PS2 games well, that is a clear winner to me, there are so many good PS2 games out there. All of these devices will play the lower end systems, so it either comes down to screen size, controller type, setup/interface differences, or gpu spec allowing higher end systems. If I wanted a device to pass the time at work, Odin 2 would be it right now.

Not much left to go though... mainly camecube and some switch left. Should hopefully be done this weekend, then I can finally get cracking. I think the first games I'm really looking forward to playing on it are some pokemon hacks I've found (unbound being the major one), the USA region version one piece unlimited adventure on the wii (which from my understanding is the only English dub game, and was never released outside of the US... I live in Australia) and an English patch version of an old dragonball z game on SNES

@@wingsfromheaven8788 Heat being expelled is a good thing and doesn't necessarily mean that the chip itself is running hot. But in the case of the RP3+, it absolutely *does* get hot. The only thing that prevents it from shutting down is that it has just enough passive cooling and, as you mentioned, a clock limit. From what I've been able to gather, only the lowest performance profile has throttling enabled, the other two just have higher limits.

Loving the new Steam Deck OLED. My one nitpick with the Steam Deck as a whole is the lack of a nice grip texture on it. It would just feel more premium and nicer to hold with some rubber grips like an Xbox controller has. I did just purchase a Skull & Co grip for it which doesn't add much weight and adds a nice feeling grip texture just for $17. Other than that it's my favorite handheld device ever. I have hundreds of emulated game on it plus my Steam game collection. And That OLED screen with 90hz is so freaking cool.

Hey, i don't know if you're gonna read this, but I'm not sure about the whole price angle in this video. I mean, when I'm looking after buying an emulation-oriented handheld, I'm not thinking in terms of "do I want a $80 device or a $100 device or a $120?". Yes it reflects what's on the market, but as a player, all I want is a good handheld with features that matters to me. What I mean is that you maybe should organize your yearly recap this way : best ergonomy, best software support, best battery management, most powerful, best still-fits-in-pocket handheld, best "home" big handheld.. And just keep two "price oriented" categories: best price/quality overall, and best expensive has-it-all handheld. Although, your content is usually very informative and thoroughly thought!

I’m so glad I found the modding community again! I used to be really interested in DS modding when I first found out about the R4 chip and it led to a couple of years of emulating from the DS to 3DS, but gradually fell off as I got older. Now that I am more in a settled adult career, I stumbled across retro handhelds and ended up buying a miyoo mini plus after your videos and reviews! So thanks so much for this wonderful resource and I hope to get back into the emulator community (although my wallet will start aching I’m sure).
