Frequently Asked Questions:
😇 How old are you? 23
📝 What are you studying? I am set to start my MA in English Literature at Oxford this autumn.
📚What are your favourite books? • 200 book recommendatio...
📚 Do you have a book club? Yes! You can join it here for free: fable.co/club/reading-with-th...
📝 Have you written a book? My life goal is to be a published author and make a living from writing and I am using this year to gain experience, build up a portfolio and work on a book with my agent. I have just finished the final draft of that book, as you can see in this video. I did self-publish a book about bullying when I was seventeen which is available on Amazon (amzn.to/3mdJKLm), but I'm slightly embarrassed by it now!
🎃 Do you have merch? I don't have merch in the traditional sense (I can't imagine selling something with my face or name on haha!), but I do have a stationery company where I sell planners for students. These are all designed with students in mind and follow models which I've used when planning my studying. Our products are printed in pastel colours on recycled paper: bit.ly/3wgsR85
🍵 What's your favourite tea? That's a REALLY hard one, but I think I'd have to say the B&B Chocolate Digestive Tea: bird-and-blend-tea-co.sjv.io/youwilllovethisone (affiliate link)

Fellow sufferer: What helps, yours truly, getting up early, sitting in a sunny room, having tea, followed by coffee. A list with basic targets, read, then think, then notes with a walk to a cafe (Greggs) and/or going to the Uni library via cycling (exercise). Read, think, walk, write. If it's a good day, a reward of a movie/TV series (watching again, the original series, The Prisoner) Keeping away from all social media until a) lunch (looking for articles in the press) and b)early evening. I'm writing a blog that nobody will read, but it's a good reference and practice for my terrible dyslexic way, and lecturers can laugh at my rants! I only take medication when I have to, i.e. deadlines or when I have fallen down a wormhole.

I believe you. It's just that most of your videos leaves people with the impression that one has to be productive at all times. It is a blessing that you love what you are learning but even if you love learning it, there should be boundaries. I love doing historical research but I need to make sure that it is not all what I am doing in my life. Research/learning is not an identity, and I don't feel bad when I decide to watch my anime instead of doing my latest readings because every aspect has a time an place.

@@nora1387 Not all people, Ruby has a lot fans. Some people are just task focused, get great satisfaction and pleasure about organisation, keeping times, lists, routines, rituals. Ruby takes the time for walks, reading, coffee breaks, snack breaks, shopping, cooking, socialising, going out and away with her friends and family. It appears her friendship circle have the same common traits. Diversity is the key here, there is no norm. What works for some may not work for all and that ok. 😊

The mind palace originates even earlier in Roman times, to something now called the method of loci, which Cicero refers to in De Oratore! Lots and lots of literature on it and a very useful memory technique I credit with a lot of my success. When I was 6 the thing I told adults I wanted to be when I grew up was a Palentologist - purely because me and my friends used to try to "dig for fossils" in our local park in the middle of south east London haha. I then found my passion in literature and am actually applying for an MSt at Oxford for 2024-25! But I've always had a fondness and interest in the subject of Paleontology (though not as much knowledge as I do in literature), which makes me wonder how the two are linked, and whether you actually mean in preparing for your course you're studying Paleography??? (which is the study of ancient writing systems) This would just make much more sense to me considering the subject of your degree!

I've been struggling with the same problem with the heat and I'm on the opposite side of the world as you! It is really crazy hot these days, and I'm saying this as someone who grew up in a tropical country. I'm also moving my study/ work hours on the early mornings, sometimes even late at night because I also can't concentrate with how intense the heat is. I'm actually watching this video right now at night when finally its not as scorching as earlier and I can finally do school stuffs, your videos really help a lot with my concentration thanks Ruby!

Hearing you talk about the memory palaces is so interesting since I just did an online Spanish course that was based around the idea of forming memory palaces for different Spanish concepts and words! Had no idea that's where the idea for it started but that's so cool! (The course is by LearnCraft Spanish if anyone is interested)
