Born in Torrance in '54. In 1973 we rented a 206 (Navy Flying Club, $25 hr.) to putt around Memphis while stationed at N.A.S. Memphis , Tenn. A GREAT airplane !! Santa Monica is one of two airports my dad took us to watch planes. The other was LAX to watch DC-3s and -6s, Connies, etc , do their runup and takeoff !! What memories.

My first job was flying the 206 in Colombia. Great work horse.

Great video! That’s my dream single! It’s such a shame the city won out on shutting SMO down! I used to eat lunch there often and watch the plane arrivals and departures. It was like an informal air show!

Great aircraft, slow as heck (no need to rush any decision making), stable as all getup, and those flaps. That last notch is like pulling the emergency brake while driving down the highway.

We had the opportunity to fly in/out of Santa Monica a few years ago. What a shame they are closing it down, residence knew the airport was there when they bought their homes and now they complain about the noise! Nice 206.....

@@FlyingwithRich Yea we met up with some friends from Italy and called to see if we could go up in a Cirrus SR20, of course thief CFI had to go up as well as I was low time and never flew a Cirrus. But you’re right that is some way crazy airspace out there, no way would I have done it by myself!!! I am now a retired telephone engineer I work for 40 years with B.T. in the U.K. I often got ask would it be possible to move the telephone pole from outside the house I said maybe but you will be changed £2000 to do the job when they bought the house the pole was the then all U.K. poles have a date when they were made the usual match when the estate was built

My guess is that the passenger filming pulled them as they boarded after engine start.

So sad KSMO is closing, have lots of memories there growing up just a few blocks away

Wow - closing an airfield because of noise... I bet this airfield was operational way before more neighbours built houses on then cheap ground. Next thing after moving in is to file a complaint. Here we go, common sense.

I miss flying out of Long Beach. I started my PPL training at the flying club there.

Pod is normally radar. Stormscope is lightning detection so the sensor much smaller. Thanks for watching!

Good question - I love watches! The Garmin D2 series is very cool. I have one and love it but it didn’t wear well - meaning it looked worn out pretty quickly. Let me know if you find a good one. Thanks for watching!

The same resident's mentality exists over the hill at KVNY and KBUR, also which came into being WELL before any housing developments were created. If you buy a house next to an airport that's been in existence for 70+ years, suck it up. You knew about it and still bought. Just more examples of NIMBY...

Does the brand new fully loaded station air comes with that interior?

Really a shame what they’ve done to SMO. My father had a plane based there in the early 90s thru about 2003 and I took some flight instruction at Justice. If I recall correctly, they shorten the runway to keep the big boy jets out and push them to vny.

206, Cherokee 6/Saratoga, Bonanza, Malibu/Mirage are pretty much the only singles with 6 seats - all can be bought below $1M.

The airport shutting down is a generational issue. Old people (baby boomers) are having decades old airports along with fireworks banned all across the United States because their little dogs get upset. They had an entire runway shut down on an international airport in my home town causing delays depending on weather, not to mention making the airport less safe. They also got time restrictions in place killing the 24 hour business at the same airport. They get away with it because there are too many of them and they have clogged all facets of society.

I think you're grossly mistaken by blaming airport closures on "baby boomers" Do your research and you'll find that the majority of complainants in the anti-airport push are 30 - 50 years old, and many are immigrants or 1st-generation residents. That per AOPA and EAA. And why the claim that there's "too many of them"? Are you that proud of your ageism? Those older Americans built what you have. Be a little more grateful, and a lot more respectful.
