Love the videos! Reminds me of Flying Doodle's channel lol. I'd love to see more piston GA plane reviews :).

The amazing thing about this guy is how versatile he is transitioning between various aircraft types and models with different avionics set-ups - his flying skills seem flawless and always well composed.

Roomy cabin for sure - really nice airplane.
I loved my Saratoga, you sold it for me last April. Mine was turbocharged and got 170 knots at the typical altitudes I flew. The Lance had a T-tail which was very unpopular. Piper lowered the tail and renamed it the Saratoga.

And changed the wing among other modifications. I put in quite a few hours in a fixed gear version and I just loved that plane. If you were able to close the doors it would fly.

Not all Lance’s had t tails
I fly a 1994 Saratoga II HP. We fully upgraded the avionics to Garmin G3X and a G5, G500 AP, and 650s. The Saratoga is superior to the Lance with the wing that was designed for it. Very good wing! Great payload, too. One of the best 6 seaters for a 300nm mission. Longer than that and you'll want to add a fuel/potty stop.
great video well done flying with cool rich im geting a piper saratoga in fsx real soon

Hey Rich! Enjoy your content, your a wealth of knowledge and clearly have the experience/time in a variety of aircraft to boot. Any advice for low time(250) pilots with CFII trying to build time. Instructing is not for everyone, and I definitely wouldn’t mind pursuing other time building options. Look forward to hearing back! Blue skies bud 🛫

Thanks for the message and watching the videos. Looking back on my flying, I put a lot of value on the time I have invested in being a flight instructor. I never thought I would be flight instructing and enjoying it this long! I also realize how much I learned and how valuable the experience was I got flight instructing. You are right that it’s not for everyone. I know some excellent pilots who never did any flight instructing. My advice - give instructing some time and pursue other ways to build time too.
Best single-engine ever...comfort, true six-place with fuel and baggage. Except I left mine in a school yard in Ft Myers after an engine failure due to the "dual mag"...a single-drive mag with one screw that holds the cam to open and close the points.

Glad that you made it successfully! Sounds like quite an event!
Love Piper products - great machines. My only nit with the Saratoga's (flew an HP II) is I'm 6'3" with a 34" inseam - definitely had issues with the yoke banging into my knees. Also, the HP wouldn't do well flying over the Continental Divide - IIRC, max altitude is like 15,000. One would need the II TC version for the extra power to fly the MEA's in/around the Rockies.
This is the airplane that I had my first ever flying job in, have lots of hours in 2GB! And that monitor you weren't sure about is actually a factory engine monitor if I remember correctly, i really enjoyed flying it, if I were in a position to buy it I totally would! I'm also in long Beach, let's fly together! Haha Great video man.

@@FlyingwithRich the owner was extremely generous and let me fly it to RAL where my student base was. So SNA - SMO- RAL -SMO - SNA everyday.
Nice throttle feathering on flare
Just a tip I noticed, the plane has an STEC 55X. The X means it has GPSS, push the nav button twice and the autopilot will go into GPSS mode with "GPSS" displayed on the 55X
@FlyingwithRich
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks - been a while since I flew the 55X. This also has a remote GPS/HDG remote selector. I thought it was toggling GPSS as well.
I know this is an older video but that autopilot almost certainly has altitude capture. You must hit ALT and VS at the same time to engage the VS and then it will capture your alt.
A friend had a turbo one of these. 280hp I think? Not normalized either, you had to watch the boost on take off. He flew it all over Australia, mostly doing Angel flights towards the end of his time with it. Cruised easily at 160 knots with a lot of stuff in it. Felt very solid and strong. I wondered in they're the best overall do-everything aircraft for the money?
👍👍👍👍👍
I Can't find an stc for the Lycoming 580 for this airframe.
I want.... really badly....

I'm sorry I just checked with Rich (I manage his accounts) and he has informed me that the plane has actually sold. My apologies. If anything changes we will let you know!
between platsburg end fort lauderdale how many houre ????
What do you have experience with Rich??
I don't know that I'm particularly interested in owning a plane if I had the monetary capability I might but this is one of my favorites that I've ever studied. It is the type that John Kennedy Jr was murdered in and I took the time to actually read the information on the condition of the plane when they recovered it and it is clear, if you read somewhere around age 720 to 735 or so somewhere in that vicinity I believe that the fuel was completely shut off which is an absolute manual Act and the fact that the right front seat was never recovered from the aircraft. The fact that he and his passengers waited for 45 minutes at the airport for somebody to arrive, and he was never known to fly that airplane without a certified flight instructor. Indicates to me that Batman was murdered. Plus there is information that he had already checked into landing and was within 5 minutes of Landing when suddenly everything went South. Having run an investigations for myself for several years back in the '80s, something doesn't add up really quickly. And after looking at the fuel switch device in that you cannot accidentally shut the fuel off. That said this looks like a very safe and very capable aircraft and more than the load capability because if you're going to have a plane and you even Envision ever needing load carrying capability this looks like a good cross between a decent plane, and the capability of being able to move people or stuff.
How many hour overhaul engine or replacement??

Please check out the link found in the video description that sends you right over to the listing on controller. Thank you!
Great plane but with some of these old American plains it just seems like there was no thought put into the panel. It looks like they put great avionics into a wall. Why isn’t there any attention to detail like there is in Cirrrus, jets, or cars for that matter. The panel should be angled since your eyes are up higher. It just needs more attention to detail
Is it true that the Saratoga has very bad glide capability.
Is it a true 6 seater?

Yes but more limited range with seats filled - 2 hrs plus reserve with seats filled.

Not really in my experience-I fly a Saratoga TC. Five kids would work though. It also has a forward CG and with two large people up front (no other pax) plane can easily get out of the CG envelope requiring t/o with tanks 2/3 full. Still I love the one I fly-also with the TC version I can get 175 TAS at 10,000 ft.
Any chance that plane is still for sale if it is hook me up

Videos aren’t intended to be a complete review of the airplane and all the systems - that would be difficult to do. If you are interested in purchasing the airplane, we would certainly do a full review of the systems and avionics but likely done by a mechanic in a pre-purchase inspection. Thanks again for your feedback.
