Wonder if you could bolster up your new octagon water tank with stones and concrete to Kane it more permanent?
Hello Scotters: welcome to our country. You shoud draw a map of the water lines of your property, because they are only active when it rains a lot, like this year. Then you shoud take good care of them: clean them, struture them with ciment or pipes, if you can. Water is never enough, so it is a very good idea to store it. Remember that in the open air you must oxigenize the water. If you buil a tank or a pond, there are water plants that do that job for you.
@THESCOTTERS

Hello thank you so much, a water map is such a great idea we will definitely do that! We want to get to know our land through all the seasons before we start putting more permanent water storage and pipes in because water is so important! I’ll look in to those plants thank you! ☺️
Pitched and collect the water. When you are able, I'd build another water pool on the other side of that stream. You will use your water up more quickly than you realise in a drought. You can never have enough water storage possibilities.

Just a quick tip for planting your tomatoes in the future. If you pinch off the bottom 2 leaves and then plant it deeper so that the soil comes up over where the leaves were, it will develop extra roots that will help stabilise the trunk. Garden is looking amazing 😊😊

@sharonadlam3195

@@THESCOTTERS Absolutely you can move them now, they haven't been in the ground long enough yet to re-establish. Also tomatoes are heavy feeders, I make a cow poo tea for mine. If you can get a large bucket or barrel, a hessian sack and some cow pats, place the pats in the sack and suspend the sack in the barrel. Fill the barrel with water and let it soak for a few days. Water down the tea in a watering can to a ratio of 1 cup tea to 2 cups water. Then you use it about once a week during the growing season. Good gardening 😊😊

love that water storage tank. As you are going to need an ongoing supply of compost, can I suggest making the most of all the wonderful deciduous leaves that are all over the place - leaf mold is the absolute best, FREE compost you can use. A very simple cage of chicken wire around some stakes is all you need, just collect as many leaves as you can fit in, preferably wet and cram them m into the cage and leave them for a year, you should have the most amazing material that can be used as a base for potting compost and a mulch.

You are mixing up two ideas here. The need for a roof and the wish for a decked viewing space. I'd go for a pitched roof, and that will give you more storage room and head space inside the barn, plus better water collection. (You'd also need bigger post supports and thicker joists if you wanted a roof you can walk on. ) Build a decked spaced elsewhere, perhaps overlooking the river? Or next to your tank, which can be used as a pool? Loving your videos and enthusiasm. Your friend is right about the onions. When veg growing goes wrong, there's always Lidl.

Another great episode thanks. As with other comments here, a flat roof will need a sturdy structure as it will be heavier and supporting people on top. You have loads of space elsewhere so think pitched best. Good gardening too, but a tip when planting tomatoes that size is plant deeper up the stem as roots will grown and give stronger plants. Have a great week!

Whatcha. What about a combination roof. You could have a pitched roof but with a flat portion overlooking your view (With railings ) . This way , any rain is caught on the pitched roof and runs into containers below, where you would could simply syphon it off when it gets dry. Then you have stairs up to the flat roof and enjoy the view :)

I would suggest a flat roof. Just to tell you my story. My late wife and I purchased a property here in the U.K. 2005 which had a very old conservatory which was not pleasing to the eye and leaked everywhere. Went to our local council for advice, and I was given permission to pull it down and install another one as long as it was under 30 square meters, I would not need planning permission, as long as it was at the back of the house. I received 3 quotes all between £8,000/18,000 In the end I built it myself and I fibre glassed the roof using two layers of 600 chopped Matt and finished it off with a grey Gelcoat finish all for under £4,000 I spaced all my rafters for the roof .300 mm apart. The room size was 5 meters by 6 meters, and I dropped the one side by 20 mm for the rain water to run off. Go for it. Well that tool in English is called a budza

If you plant strawberries in rows, because they have runners that generate new plants each year I would remove the old row and establish a new row from the runners that grew and that way would always have young plants that produce more than old plants. By removing the old onees and alternating the rows, you have a place to walk also to pick the new strawberries.

My one concern w a flat roof is drainage. You don't want water sitting on the roof accumulating adding weight up there...but I do like someone's idea of a roof slopping (sp?)on one side that sounds like it would be practical . Badger. You are Soo very creative.the water storage unit is brilliant. And very very affordable. Good job build another tank somewhere else you just might need it in future. Your gardening project should do great could you find room for an asparagus bed ? Once one is planted well the plants feed you for Manny years almost no care to the plants too. Are there wild animals around that might want to "share" your veggies? Start thinking of ways to combat that. Get your hands dirty ..it's good for the soul.

Thank you so much for watching! ☺️
Hello there! I am new and love what your plans are for your homestead!! As for your roof.. it depends on your structure? Will a flat roof and deck be supported by the walls you have or will you need additional support underneath it? I saw a combo flat/pitch roof idea here.. interesting idea indeed.. if its flat you most likely will need railings for safety? Anyway.. good luck and have fun!

Hello Trish thank you so much! Hmm yes I think it would need extra strength and yes safety railings didn’t even think of that, thank you defiantly something to think about! ☺️

Hi guys. You're amazing 👏 💖 and so funny 😄 😆 🤣. You've just made my day with your "sacholas". That is called an "enxada" Sachola is a smaller version on an enxada. Well done. Love you

Thank you so much 😁 😂 I can’t get to grips with the name of it!! Haha that’s god to know thank you! ☺️
The support beams and joists have got to alot bigger then those ones and the span of the width of the shed might need other poles support in the middle all the way along to take the weight load
