Yeah I think so too. Superhuman or not, he was just as able to make mistakes as any other god would. With a galaxy worth of planning in his head (I can barely keep my own life in order, let alone a whole damn galactic empire), he must have needed to make many assumptions about the world (including about the Primarchs) in order to keep all his plans in check. Some of which may have turned out for the worse. Not excusing his mistakes, just saying I understand.

My head cannon is that the emperor’ plan involved everything going according to how it did… I mean… he was a 40k year old immortal super human with infinite wisdom. Whatever he considers to be the right course of action, was likely the best anyone could reasonably make to serve whatever fucked up goals he had. It is more then possible that the emperor planned the Horus heresy. In fact Malcador states this himself. He says that primearchs were always meant to fight one another. He states that heresy came earlier then they expected and they weren’t totally prepared. He continues that the primearchs aren’t doing anything they were not designed to do. They are doing exactly what they want. Once more, durning a game of regicide the emperor and malcador discuss how the Horus heresy was always gonna happen and that whoever became warmaster would betray the emperor. Look at the emperor now. He has been sucking on thousands of psyker soulsand powers for 10k years daily and absorbing worship of uncountable trillions. He is a god… not even guilliman can deny that any longer. He brought back guilliman to life and burnt down Nurgle’s garden. Not even the chaos gods have been shown to have such direct control over their abilities. Look at the rift. It’s powering psykers like a fucking super charger hooked up to their nipples. And the emperor not only gets the benefit of the psychic awakening, allowing him to use lot more of his powers lot more freely but now he will also be fed more psykers. Psykers that are more potent and more powerful. This is like Christmas on steroids for the big E. Oh and don’t forget about the quintillions of people worshiping him as an all powerful god. Powering him up even more now that the rift is open… especially with so many people suffering at the hand of the chaos forces and DESPERATALY praying to him. Not to mention even more psykers being fed to him. The golden Thorne has at best 100 years left… why didn’t he leave exact blueprints of it to fix it when needed? Why didn’t he help those who were trying to fix the golden throne like he does at random around the galaxy? And how come everyone involved in the golden throne incident ended up dead, without a single soul surviving who even knew the exact severity of the situation? Sounds to me like the emperor didn’t care… or it went all according to his plan. Perhaps he didn’t leave any blueprints because the golden throne was only meant to serve it’s purpose for what he planned for. Perhaps he won’t require it after the 100 years… and then the question that should be asked is this:”does the emperor have the best interest of humanity in mind?” What if the emperor planned to become a god from the beginning? It’s absolutely not far fetched. Both sanguinius’s and Konrad’s visions of the future have all come true. Unlike even the Tzeentch, where it’s stated that even he can’t predict the future, exactly. Sanguinius’s and Konrad’s visions were, without mistake true and unchangable. If his sons had such powerful abilities, imagine how much more accurate and far spanning the emperors own ability was? who is to say that he didn’t plan this from the beginning? That he didn’t want near infinite power, delivered to him for free alongside it the galaxy’ one of most powerful armies at his beck and call, lead by one of the smartest existences in the physical universe? More you think about more it makes sense.

The Emperor is awesome because of his decision to let humans govern themselves with relative autonomy. Not Space Marines, not Primarchs, not Custodes. Humans govern humans. This is all I need to know to understand he is sincere in his desire to lead humanity rather than rule over it.

The emperor is a human. He may be a combination of powerful souls and a perpetual but he's still human. It says a lot about the emperors beliefs that he tries so hard to hammer that point home. Custodes, Primarchs, and Astartes are genetically altered abominations with different organs and abilities also with a bit of chaos God tossed in in the case of primarchs. In the scheme of things they are a step below the glory of humanity and a step closer to filthy xenos. A random guardsman is more pure than a primarch. A big reason Lorgar needed a spanking for trying to deify the emperor is because the emperor didn't want to place himself at a higher tier than normal humanity in principle. He's higher tier in power but he's not a God and not a xeno. It's important that humans govern humans because if they are governed by genetic or chaotic abominations then our race will eventually be enslaved by them The emperor is fine using tools to achieve his goals, and he may love his creations like sons, but HUMANITY comes first. His first child is humanity who he has guided since 8000 BC. His 50,000 year goal in life takes precedence over his pet projects he worked on for a few hundred to achieve that goal. He'd execute his projects as soon as their usefulness is done, as he did with Thunder warriors, and many of the ones being executed would agree with his decision. Giving power over from base humanity to genetically and chaotically altered beings that are pretty far removed from the original species is little better than dark age of tech humans giving power up to AI. Primarchs show many human traits because of their genetic connections to the emperor, who is an amalgamation of many many powerful humans, but they're incomplete and not fully human. All the primarchs are different shards of humanitys collective strengths and weaknesses. They do not have the psyche to be a complete human. Bobby G may have humanity's imperial spirit and logistical prowess but he doesnt understand the quest for knowledge like Magnus and Magnus doesnt understand Russ's warrior spirit

He is God. He has a army of Ghosts and Angels (legion of Damned) He Lights up the entire Galaxy And literally occasionally makes anyone who prays or worships him as a God immune to chaos or able to kill Daemons. Literal Giga Chad God.

The eldar left into the webway and the emperor saw that and decided to do the same for humanity. When that failed he saw the eldar used to be able to call upon their Gods and bring them into the materium to aid them in battle. He saw humanity didnt have positive Gods or the ability to do that so he made himself into one and took that position himself. Hard for them not to respect that. Despite their large souls idk of any Eldar that were able to ascend to Godhood in such a manner Plan A was to take the ball and go away. Plan B is to become a God and destroy the other Gods The eldar know what hes doing better than humanity does because they can better infer from their own history what the results of his plans will be. That's why the respect it. Not only do they respect it, in many ways they're helping it. They have no hope of saving their race because Slaneesh has their only tool of salvation hidden away but if big E is successful then they can at least have a chance at surviving. So they provide tech and support when needed to help him achieve his plan

I knew the bit about his consciousness shattering on the throne, but it just gave me a new (or maybe old, idea. Apologies if anyone else has hit on this.) What if when he shattered, it just broke back into the souls of the original shamen, or maybe smaller groups of like personalities? Distinct but still working towards the same goal? Each with its own temperament and mission? Oooor, what if this had been the case all along? Maybe he had no distinct individual personality/soul, but let the most appropriate aspect control for whatever he needed at the time? It would explain his inconsistent attitudes, and maybe even why it was so easy for him to appear differently per the situation. He might not have been hiding who he was, but actually changing who he was. So he not only protects, but is also voltron. Which is bonus points. Whaddya think? Crazy? Plausible?

There was a moment in the scattering, where he realised it was Horus who caused it, having travelled back in time somehow. While the Emperor may not have known how, he must have thought Chaos was the most likely reason for this. At that moment, he saw all of the possibilities and knew he had a chance to stop it all, but allowed it to happen. He wanted the scattering, he wanted the primarchs to have unique and different childhoods. He knew some would fall (and Horus causing the scattering must have shown him Horus would fall) but he still wanted it to unfold. He planned it all. Some of his plans were written on the fly, but he knew early in the heresy that he'd be locked into the golden throne for ten thousand years and he judged this was worth it. The outcome he wanted was godhood, overseeing the human race. He's almost there. The number one reason the Emperor is awesome is that everything that came to pass was by his design. Unlike another (small "e") emperor, the end goal is the betterment of the entire human race, not just the vainglorious ambition of one man.

Next, do 55 reason why Guilliman is awesome. Go'wan you know you want to.

Remember, before Russ (the second found Primarch) there was only Horus. There is circumstantial evidence to believe Horus was jealous of the Emperor’s attention on Russ, and this could be a preemptive strike to sour the relationship.

I think the thing is, humans are (or can be) stupid, ignorant, willfull, greedy, easily lead and convinced or persuaded by those with less than their best interests at heart. They need to be taught, most times unwillingly, how these things are bad. It's like trying to teach children not to eat sweets, because they reallllllly want to eat sweets. In the end they need to be dragged kicking and screaming to be better. Anyone willing and able to do that will no doubt be called a tyrant. Or something like it.

The emperor might be the coolest character I've had the pleasure of reading about and hearing about (generally from Mr rho here) buuuuut he is inarguably adhering to fascist ideals and AT BEST would have the whole of humanity under draconian rule to serve his crusade. Don't take my word for it, the original books were basically just "lol isn't fascism taken to it's conclusion absolutely ridiculous and scary?".. so, no not a very awesome dude.
