If you put fronts on your shelves you could paint them white or close off the display but have it handy. I love your shop set up.

I'm sitting in the hospital room here in the Netherlands, with a massive infection in my arm after recent nerve decompression surgery, twice within the last two weeks, laughing at my tablet, and the nurses are looking at me saying, "there is nothing wrong with this guy". I'm just here for the food and coffee, thanks....Thanks for the pick me up.. So when I break out of the slammer, I hope in a few weeks, I'll be able to start carving again. One bit of advise, you can never have enough tools, something always catches the eye... if you want to be left alone in a store while shopping with your wife, just yell out, I'll be in the tool section. Keep up the good work.

I have carved cypress, you need a super sharp knife. The grain changes direction constantly

I know alex says the elf was not high tech, simple or what ever and hes right, the beard and mustache is fairly simple but the eyes... man its the eyes that bring it to life and bring the detail to it

11:15 I would think that small carving with a knife is the most primitive and oldest form of carving giving it deep roots. Also like Doug said it is up close and personal you're holding the whole project in your hands, while you'd usually be sitting down. There is a certain amount of peace that focusing inward and blocking the world out does bring. Whittling on a stick is what the majority of young people will do the first time their parents allow them to use a pocket knife. It's the simplicity that draws people in along with childhood memories. Well, that's my overthinking on the subject.

You can order knives from Helvie. There is a lead time to get them but it beats paying someone a ton of money that’s trying to rip you off.

This is my 1st video of you 2 guys together. I think you are both very good Carver's. But a good share of this video Is not about carving , its about other stuff going on in your life . Which I'm sure is interesting to you, but I'm here to watch videos about carving , not to hear you talk about coffee and dozens of other-- unrelated to carving -- topics. Not trying to be critical But trying to be helpful.

I absolutely 100% guarantee you if you soak a rag in linseed oil and leave it in the sun when it's hot out it will spontaneously combust my boss proved it to me we build Church furniture we actually had one Church completely engulfed in flames overnight because somebody left rags out in the open. Always put them in a bucket of water no matter what.
