530 Miles in the Perfect Grand Tourer? FIRST Road Trip in My Aston Martin DBS!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This is why I bought my Aston Martin DBS! It's a perfect grand tourer, and we've got a long 500 miles drive ahead, so let's put it to purpose exactly as it was built to do. It's one of the best looking cars of modern times, but how does it stack up on the road - time to find out!
I bought the 2011 Aston Martin DBS in Midnight Blue back in February, but without any real plans for it, the car has done very little mileage especially as I chose to have some paint work done and then the wait before PPF was installed at Topaz. As a result, prior to departing the Shmuseum it has done a grand total of about 150 miles since purchase and it's time to change that!
With a reason to head to Germany, and a plan to fly being thwarted by huge delays and excessive cancellations of flights, why not drive, and why not get the DBS over to the Autobahn and Nurburgring in the process! That means a long journey ahead, 530 miles / 850km and around 10 hours from @TheShmuseum across the Eurotunnel and down through France towards Germany.
So how does the DBS stack up? Pros and cons, as we make our way down the Autoroutes. It's certainly a GT, a very 'lazy' drive and comfortable experience, but more on that in the video.
Thanks for watching, Tim

Just finished a 5000 kilometres road trip (in 1 week 😳) through 7 European countries in the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S - absolutely faultless and very comfortable. The weird thing was only saw 3 other 911’s the whole journey

@@christophb2736 yes was in Germany 🇩🇪 twice on the way out and on the way back but only saw one white 911 930 model and the back of a newer model 911 in the distance on a slip road entering the motorway. Like I say it was really strange I fully expected to see a lot more but didn’t and like you see them practically everyday in the UK. Saw some Taycan’s and various Macan’s and Cayenne and one Panamera but that was it for 911’s.

What a dream. Here in Brazil you can't take your car out for a roadtrip like this. Lot's of speed limits, terrible roads and the risk of being assaulted...You guys have an automotive disneyland 👍👏
On the vantage with same dash layout, push the "read" and "trip" button on the stalk simultaneously to change between MPH & KMH
That car is so stunning! I know you have an amazing collection but that Aston is just perfection. If I could have the keys to any of the cars I would choose the AM every time.

Such a shame we're seeing the end of the era of great cars with great engines. Now they all look ugly with a thousand aero blades stuck on every angle of the car with small engines or the electric car bubble.

Same!
9 hours driving at 130km/h and 3 countries. Puts things into perspective here in Australia. That’s the time to drive from Melbourne to Sydney at our silly 110km/h limit. I agree Shmee, from the time you leave home to the airport, fly and get to your destination at the other end, it can be quicker and a better experience to drive.
What a life! Always roaming around the world with his cars and making stories to share the whole world
“Airports are unbelievably delayed” he says as I watch this from an airport waiting for a delayed flight 😂
Spotted this on your Instagram feed yesterday and thought that this would be an absolutely incredible trip. Definitely a bucket list journey.
If I remember on the NAV control panel on the centre console you have 4 buttons above the little toggle wheel, on the top right one it says READ, Hold it and the button on the end of the indicator stalk down for five seconds and it should change from mph to kph and vice versa. I hope this helps.
I always enjoy the road trip vlogs. So much fun! Thanks for taking us along.
Shmee is 100%the best automotive youtuber. I would love to be like him
Nice relaxed narrative about the use of the DBS. I have always been attracted to the lines and idea of owning an Aston Martin. Thanks for a positive, neutral impression of this beautiful car.
The DBS is very classy, especially in a dark colour with the chrome trim. Lovely scenery too, very picturesque with the view over the bridge onto the water below. Great vid Tim!
I always get excited to watch your videos no matter what it is
Very awesome to see the DBS again and on the road!
I don’t know how shmee can tolerate driving all the time he is almost on the road for 8 months out of a year! But love watching him
This is a fantastic video Tim. I love your DBS. All of your Astons have been fantastic. Back to your Vanquish S Cab days 👌👏
I cannot believe that earlier today I was watching a video on Sam from seen through glass when you both went for a drive in your vanquish volante and you were talking about you actually went looking for a dbs. And here you are with your own dbs and going on it’s first road trip 👍
Just been down to Romania in my Auto DBS smashing a bit of Autobahn in Germany. Loved it. Completed 3k miles not single glitch. Fitted Aston installation car play before the trip. Awesome upgrade if anyones thinking about it.
Nice to see a good old road trip video!
The colour just looks lovelyyyyy... Love the way you spec your cars even if people think they are ugly!!!!! Saw something was coming when you uploaded the short on the shmeebites channel!!!!! Kudos...

Shmee always does good specs on his cars. My favorite spec in his collection is the McDonald’s Ford GT and the blue Senna. They both look insane in that spec.
So good to have a road trip vlog like the old days again!
Hi Tim, nice to know your back over here 👍 have a nice Trip, stay .
Alex kowaliuk here from America awesome to see you driving the Austin Martin on a long road trip very cool . 😎
Love the DBS and a road trip video on a Sunday is always welcomed. How does it handle the speed bumps? Thank you for sharing.
Finally a roadtrip with the Aston. Its so beautiful and I even love the colour. Great choice!
Summer is for driving and cool to see you back on the road with this stunning gentleman's tourer, thank you Shmee.
The road trip videos are always my favorites!

Got to love the sound of the V12 in the Aston!!!
Shmee150 Absolutely Incredible Video I'm glad your Road trip in your V12 DBS is going well and I can't wait to see some Auto Bahn and Nurburgring Nordschleife content
Just wanted to say, thank you for taking the time to respond to comments and the effort of community interaction you put in given how large your channel is. The effort is very appreciated and keeps the community involved. Notice that it is a common trend for successful channels is they often are in the comments and interactive with their viewers, you and STG are the main car ones, Thomas Heston for photography, just ones off the top of my head - but that’s the reason I can name you guys off the top of my head in the first place. Unlike some car KZreadrs… anyway, thank you for taking the time to interact with your audience, it is very appreciated!
How is Shmee so brilliant. I love watching him!

I think the dark colours really suit an Aston Martin, they just look so subtle yet have so much presence and style. My sister's business partner has acquired his second Aston recently. Can't wait to hear yours sing on the autobahn tomorrow! 😎

@@justsomeguy1141 certain cars really do suit silver for me anyway especially ones as visually stunning as the Aston Martin but other cars to me when in silver seem to just look bland or something. I've my eye on a silver 8p S3 as I search for another weekend car, never thought a silver car would be on my radar but it looks really well. I largely just have a laugh reading comments sections on KZread and yarn with other car fanatics when chilling so take other people's contributions as just them chilling or whatever and in whatever mood giving their 2p's worth. Does be hilarious at times when you scroll down and see someone spit the dummy out over the next man's comment like they deliberately poured a pint over them! Hahaha , must be wound up in their own houses etc 💯🤣
I rewatched the road trip to Monaco and yet I think it is the best one you have done
I like so much this DBS and the color matches perfectly with it!!!
I don’t really get the argument of needing an auto gearbox on a long roadtrip, most of it is motorway miles where you just put it in 6th gear and leave it anyway

Tim what the benefit of the flex pass? I use the tunnel fairly often and if I arrive early they put me on an earlier train and if I’m late a later train. My last trip was £134. Why pay that big premium?

If you are too early or late for your booking they charge you the extra anyway, so if you are unsure of the timings then Flexiplus is worth buying upfront and skipping the queues. (eg. yesterday we got back from the Le Mans Classic earlier than we thought, and it was either pay an extra 88 euro to go straightaway or wait 3 hours for a 'free' crossing.)
@askiff1415

@@SWR112 I use Flexiplus - makes no difference on high or wide Tim’s right the price has rocketed to almost double. I agree you often get some flexibility but not guaranteed on the standard ticket. I returned to the UK 2 days earlier than planned no issues but I wouldn’t have been able to do that on a standard ticket I’d have had to buy another ticket. Apart from that you get to use the business lounge where everything is free hot and cold drinks and loads of snacks you can stuff your car with.
The DBS is one of the most beautfiul cars ever. Just drop dead gorgeous!
Great car, have a nice trip with it !
To sharpen up, use the Sport button and press the dampers button. You will then need to use the paddles to get to 6th, and on the paddles it is a different car too. That said, in normal mode you can feel the torque pushing in the bottom of your back, and you know that on the Autoroute it will cruise at 200kmh, and that illegal purpose is what it is really for. What I love about them is that you are engaged in every mile. You feel it through the seat and the steering and will never be bored in a DBS, never nod off, and when you arrive and park up it is the best looking thing in the car park. Other cars are sharper but I’ve done 12-13 hours at the wheel and the blend between comfort and engagement is perfect. That said, as you get used to it you will also find that with its sticky tyres it gives you great confidence to hurl it down twisty roads, leaning on the CC brakes and using the massive torque as you learn the car. Enjoy your time with it. It is one of the greatest machines of all time.
Tim, you are not alone in the numbers “game”. I also tend to check out licenseplates!

🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👏🏻, A DBS, wow! You get so much status when you drive an Aston Martin in London. DBS one of my favorites...
The DBS V12 sounds great!
It all feels pretty banal to you, but as a Californian whose last ride across the channel was on a hovercraft, I appreciate the details you’ve shown on this tip. Good fun, I’d love to Turo an Aston for this kind of trip. GT indeed!
Just goes to show how perfect a grand tourer the DBS is, Tim arrived and looked so chilled and relaxed.
You could use the Autoroute from Baden Airpark which is much more pleasant than the parallel running German A5. AND it’s free of charge down along Strasbourg to Colmar I think
Cheers for the video mate 😎 👌
Love these videos!
Very nice cool trip, and in the perfect car. 👍👍👍👍
Excellent video on the DBS Tim, it should really have CarPlay and our HD screen though, makes using Waze and streaming music a breeze!
Epic trip with the DBS. I am sad though that the G80 M3 never got it’s Euro trip to the Ring.
Good to see even for just the eurotunel section (+ the telepass note) to see how it's coping in these times. Not too daunting at all
Rear seat space is “negligible”. Gotta love the politeness.
This DBS looks perfect. Definitely a keeper
Such a cool car!!! I would love to take a dbs for a drive ha!!
