That had to be an absolute monster, it's crazy how well they know their environment to mess fishermen up. Glad you guys were still able to get a good-sized one. I wish this trips videos would get more views because they are good and I know you had so much fun. Can't wait for the monsters and great videos coming up as always. Great video!

Hey everyone, two things... First, be sure to check out the incredible gear from Terra Firma Tackle! terrafirmatackle.com/collections/freshwater-tackle terrafirmatackle.com/collections/freshwater-tackle/products/dino-special-sturgeon-catfish-hair-rig Second, the estimated 500lb is just a guess based purely on the possibility that the fish in question was in the 9-10 foot range (using a chart with corrosponding weights provided by Idaho Fish and Game). I caught a sturgeon 7.5 feet long later that night and landed it on much smaller, cheaper gear. Whatever this was had to be SIGNIFICANTLY larger to smoke the much stronger, more expensive gear so effortlessly. Just a guess though 🤷‍♂️

It would only have to be between 9 and 10 feet long, and that river has them. We both caught fish a bit under 8 without much trouble, so yeah, it was one of the giants.

Believe that's braid,try little bigger reel bout 50 yards mono,greatly helps the braid from digging in so bad

A good reel for this could be one of them Avet Mxl or MC

Man - that was some fish he snagged - and I can only imagine the one that got away! By the way, what fish species was it - and if you don't mind, can you say where you guys were? The place looks amazing, somewhere to get lost in for a few days away from the chaos of everyday life...

The fish was a sturgeon, a "prehistoric" species that is quite unique. It looks like they were fishing the Snake River. If not the Snake, certainly somewhere in the area (Eastern Oregon/Washington/Idaho)
