for me traditional, there is something beautiful in mistakes and imperfections, I enjoy the process also a lot more and tend to scan and adjust colors in a program. Also I just love to see all the art supplies in front of me. Also putting tral textures instead of mimicking the appeal of textures is very satisfying to me

Agree. It has more of the human element to it, where digital can look so seamless that it feels less unique. I personally love ADC’s style of shading and coloring and I think traditional mediums showcase it very well

The only times I'm ever like "Damn, wish I was doing this digital" is when I run out of a marker and have to buy a new one. And when I want to do effects. I think if I ever went with a digital method I would still sketch and ink traditionally and only really use digital for certain projects for coloring and effects. I like the traditional piece from you better

Im a traditionl artist mostly (with a digital tablet that i got very recently) and digital seems the way to go...Yes markers are only $500 compared to 1000+, but markers get used up pretty quickly, especially if you don;t buy expensive high quality paper, and you have to keep buying them, or refills. The PC will last you 4-8 years easily depending on how you take care of it

I definitely suggest using free art programs when starting out. Ones like Gimp, Medibang, and Fire Alpaca. Then when you are ready get a paid program like Clip Studio Paint or Photoshop. Personally I prefer digital art, I even have a desk dedicated to my digital set up now. Mainly because I had issues finding the right things(markers n paper) because the art stores are too far away. So when one ran out Id have to wait months until I could go to the store.

Couldn't possibly pick one; love them both. I may be a bit biased for both though, being a (very) amateur digital colorist/artist for just over 4 years now who started using alcohol based markers a few months ago, and I love both mediums equally. Much more than any other mediums I've tried. I get more eye strain working traditionally than I do digitally. The digital zoom feature helps a lot with that, I think. (Hilariously, on more than one occasion, I have caught myself doing the two-finger zoom gesture on paper. :P ) Really happy to have been directed to your channel from your collab with Jazza - that was awesome!

  • @Bastion90

The digital version is cleaner, more precise, and the skin tone has smooth blending. However, I prefer the way you coloured the costume in the traditional version because the colours feel more natural, and the paper gives it extra texture. Generally, Traditional might not be as clean, but I think that often gives them more life and dynamism. I've entered your giveaways before, just for fun, but I think I'd be more scared of winning now because I'd probably get charged a small fortune in custom fees 😂

So excited to see this video as a digital artist myself. I just bought a display tablet earlier this year for under $600 CAD, a Huion Kamvas 16 Pro, a great upgrade for my over my Wacom Intuos Pro. I already had a laptop and a CC subscription so no extra cost for me there. I think when you consider with traditional you always have to buy replacement pens when you use them up and paper cost wise it’s not a bad trade off. However it can be expensive to print depending on how you get them printed. I’ve had a few of my paintings printed on canvas and that’s a bit pricey but worth it!

The thing with the PD1560 to consider is that it lacks the color bit depth of most normal computer monitors. The average monitor is 8bit depth (~16.7M color display capability) while the screen of the PD1560 is only 6bit (~262k color display capability). Trying to go between a normal monitor and the tablet display with this particular pen display you end up with a noticeable green bias and lacking reds versus what you'd see on your computer screen assuming working/correct calibration. It will make many colors seem washed out compared to what's on your computer monitor. It's also worth noting that pen displays do allow you to adjust the output light and temperature (warm vs cool white) to best accommodate your eyes and needs. To bring up that you also need a computer, while true, ends up being a nonissue most of the time as even a low-end computer can use a tablet and a computer isn't such a high luxury as it might have been 20 years ago. A $400 laptop can run your tablet driver and a decent art program without issue and can likely do many other things as well, so it's not necessarily an art supply as much as just being something you can also use for art. Chances are, if someone is watching this video, they already have something that can be used with a tablet. Photoshop is also not the only thing out there by any means and many quality softwares are cheap, if not completely free. Photoshop might be the best known, but it's far from the only thing out there. On lower-end systems you're actually better off getting and using something else as Photoshop is an absolute resource pig and you'll likely find that you'd only use about 20% of what Photoshop even has to offer, so why not spend your money (assuming you'll actually buy software) on something you'll use more to the fullest? It also goes without saying that you don't need a $400 (or higher, especially for Wacom) pen display to make art. Even the larger-size low-end Wacom tablets are half that price and they're not the only brand out there. Huion and many other brands make tablets of competitive quality for even less. Just about any surface tablet will get you just as far with the same internals as every other tablet, you just won't have a screen and you'll need to look at your monitor-- the mental disconnect goes away pretty quickly. Lighting should be adequate in your workspace whether you're working digitally or traditionally, so if you're dealing with eye strain you should probably consider your ambient lighting first.

You mentioned macro vision. I can see cells on a flower petal and a lot of minuscule details on everything. It’s what hinders my artwork because I can see ALL the mistakes in great detail. I used to make Cartoon Dolls in pixelated forms (I know this dates me but it was popular in the early 2000s.) This is a digital art form by placing pixels originally in MS Paint and creating gradients and such pixel by pixel. Like a digital pointillism. It made my vision of cells very useful. I wish however I could be better at Art. I use my super vision plus the 4th cone in my eye to dye yarn instead of draw. Keep on making these videos and you’re just awesome!

I must say my choice will change by the distance between my eyes and this final painting. If I'm close, I prefer traditional one. The texture is just exquisite, there's no comparison point. But if I'm far, I can't choose... They both look amazing. Thank you for sharing this videos 😊

Textures can be simulated by the brush you choose in the software. Traditional tools can also be simulated via the brush you pick. I have seen digital artworks where you cant tell if its digital or traditonal just by looking at it. Everything is possible with digital art. And its much cheaper because you dont have to rebuy supplies. They are infinite in digital art. Procreate is a good example he didnt mention. All you need is an iPad (~600) to be able to use it and create beautiful art with it. No need for a tablet that needs a PC to work.

I gotta go with traditional. It's as you said, you can see the love and care that is put into a traditional piece, because there is no CTRL+Z. Every stroke of marker, pen, paint, or pencil matters, and it's very difficult to adjust a mistake.

To be honest, I am a digital artist myself and I do prefer to do stuff digitally, but! Traditional artworks have much more life in them and that is incredible to be able to feel the way it was drawn and all the emotions given to it. And as for choosing a side on a drawing you've made, I'd go with traditional. It really does look breathtaking. As always, very great job done. (:

If price point is the determining factor I would have to side with digital. Everything that has to do with traditional involves consumables. You're constantly needing to replace the paper, the markers and any other supplies like erasers and such while the digital process remains for as long as the equipment doesn't break down period and in this day most everyone already owns a computer

Having started as a traditional artist I love it more! I worked for quite a few years as a "digital" Graphic designer and I said digital as if you do not know how to work on a computer you can not get a job! I also love having a paper copy an "original" artwork to have and hold! Yes I know you can print many copies of a computer generated artwork. it is just not the same! I hope the winner enjoys their prize!

i think that which one is better really depends on your circumstances. For example, if you already own an tablet, it’s less expensive, since you only need a stylus (and their prices very a lot) and an art program (again, varies from cheap to expensive), but if you don’t own a laptop or tablet, it can be quite expensive. Also, some of the downsides you mentioned (specifically the issue of lack of portability) also depends on the type of digital tablet you have. like, if you have an ipad (or something similar) that you use for digital art, you can take it pretty much anywhere. edit: i’m personally more of a digital artist, but i used to be a non-digital artist, and have transitioned recently

Digital _seems_ like the way to go because you will never run out of inks nor will you ever be missing that color that would make it perfect. You have the full range of everything, as long as you buy the right software at the beginning. To be completely honest, though, there is something more impressive and satisfying about actual tangible artwork. Even though there is still a real skill and knowledge level needed to produce quality work digitally, the fact that you can layer and erase, or go back and change sections you aren't as happy with later makes it seem like anyone could do it if they were given enough time. That isn't quite true, but it feels that way, and physical art just requires a "get it right, or start over" aspect that just makes it into a choice between two completely different worlds. If you are doing it for a job and need repeatable results that others have to approve or offer changes to the digital is the only way to go, but if you are wanting to produce one of a kind artwork for others to admire and display it absolutely must be done in the real world with actual supplies, bought and restocked, from a store or ordered.

How should I put it? Hmm The 500 marker side the power itself wasnt that big or glowing, but the lighting effect on the body seem very strong. It kinda make it a bit unreal. If the power is drew stronger, then it make sense. Digital art as you say blend it even better and I see a bit darker shading. The power and lighting effect on body is balance and wonderful. Both are unique, and man thanks for sharing. I learn a lots
