What isn't mentioned here is the real reason that Spielberg turned this movie down. It was really because he wanted to use American actors and Jo only wanted British actors.

To be honest, no matter how many times i hear this, I still can’t believe that only J.K. And Snape’s actor where the only ones that knew of his fate prior to the last book. She made a very wise decision on telling him.

I'm sure the money is nice but let's not downplay the damage that bleach does to someone's scalp and hair, especially before they've even hit puberty, and just how frequently Tom had to keep up that process. There's a reason why stylists are always trying to find/invent less toxic alternatives to bleaching hair, it's one of the most damaging things you can do to your hair and your scalp.
