    My home biz is great. I live in a fabulous community 15 min from town. So people love being able to buy homemade basic desserts out here. I also have petting zoo animals for the kids. My only challenge is my witch next door. If you don’t have a crying Tina next door things should go well for you. She’s called the health dept three times this year and each time they are sympathetic to the situation. They like what I’m doing and don’t want to be called out. But she does it anonymously and goes over their head to the state. So they must come.

    For me I am always interested in stuff like this and the law side of it from my state. I would like to share this, cause it shocked me when I found out about this. So at a family reunion I found out that one of my family members has a at home cooking thing going on. And her sister heard I was a good baker and asked if I was doing what her sister was doing. I told her no and it was mostly due to money, and not only that I had to look into the law side of it. Like licensing, what you can or can not sell, if a pet is okay to have in the house or not in case for people with allergies you are selling to, and the list goes on from there. And she was shocked that there was so much into it. So I asked if her sister dose any of these things, and so on. With out going too deeply into it. half of my answers where met with nos. Before anyone asks I got green flags with with how clean a area is, not making anything with expired food, and washing your hands when cooking. But she said that her sister mostly sells to family or family's co workers. And really I was shocked how some people just decided to make a homemade business selling food with out looking into it!

If i am making spice blends and such, and my wife is selling fruit snacks, would both products sales go twords a single 50k a year or if filed as seperate buisnesses would it be seperate. Also is a freeze dryer such as a harvest right home freeze dryer considered comercial. I know it says its ment for home but its a specalized appliance so i worry.

    Hello, thank you for the info. I have a few questions of if I may. 1. Can I sell my cakes/ cake in a cup at a city park or on the side of the road? 2. Can I take a mini fridge to the spot im planning on selling from just to prevent them from losing its shape/ melting? 3. I have a sales tax permit, is that enough to sell? 4. Should my baked goods taxable? Because I don’t currently charge tax but I do report my sales quarterly. And again when is I file my taxes. Am I doing it wrong? Thank you in advance for your response. God bless you all!💞

So, being here in El Paso, TX I don't need to have any permit or license to sell Banana loaf breads and the same ones, correct? I have another 2 other questions, A) What is the best way to accept payments from customers? B) Should I offer it on a first-come, first-served basis? Thank you for your patience in answering my questions. I really appreciate it.

    I want to start roasting coffee beans and selling them out of the home. It is my understanding that is possible though I also wanted to use my product (roasted coffee beans) to make coffee beverages and start selling within food markets/ city events. So I do understand the income cap of $50,000 for the coffee bean bags THOUGH is there an income cap using my roasted coffee beans in my coffee stand to make beverages? Or is the coffee bean 1lb bags SEPARATE from the coffee within my beverages I sell?

    Define personal delivery. I sell from a stand in my driveway. 100 ft from my kitchen. It’s an honor system. The neighbor complained to health dept that I don’t man my store. I fail to believe I could ship a box and an ups driver could leave said box anywhere and that is fine. But I need to personally hand product over. The buyers are aware I bake it. Who I am. Where to find me. No one seems to have a definitive answer to this question. I can’t bake and sell. The neighbor knows this and wants me to shut down. She failed at her own bakery biz. So therefore I must fail.

    Don't quote me on this, but I think as long as it goes from you to the customer, aka no postal or 3rd party delivery, then it's okay. I think it would be okay to have pickups since it's on your property and have the food with their names on it and such, waiting, prepackaged and labeled. You can always call your city health dept. or visit them to find out the details too!

    your product must be handed to or delivered to the customer from you the cottage food operator, also it has to baked in your own home. MOST all states dont allow shipping on a few do and it has to be shipped within the state no interstate sales here is a quote from the state of Texas website: Distribution Food produced by a cottage food production operation may be sold online or by mail order under the following circumstances: The consumer purchased the food online or by mail-order from the operator. Operator personally delivers the food to the consumer. Before the operator accepts payment for the food, the operator provides all labeling information required by the Cottage Food Production Operations rules to the consumer by posting a legible statement on the cottage food production operation's internet website, publishing the information in a catalog, or otherwise communicating the information to the consumer.   A cottage food operator may not sell any foods described under the rules at wholesale.

    Hello, I am a new subscriber. Question: I am selling 2 types of Bahn Mi sandwiches with bag of chips and can soda as a package. Ingredients are cooked shredded chickens and cooked beef meatballs with shredded carrots, slice of cucumbers, top with cilantros and slice of Jalapenos. I have a permanent shed of 15x15 sq ft stand where I will sell the Bahn Mi. I have completed the City of Houston Food Handler certificate. I will cook the meatballs at home and purchase the Rotisseries chicken at the local grocery store. I will only be selling a quantity of 50 Bahn Mi on Saturday and Sunday only. I have a business plan and LLC established. Am I good to go? Thank you so much for your advice. 🙏🙏🙏

    So salsas cannot contain garlic? Or can salsa have garlic as part of the ingredients?

  • @CottageFoodsLaws

    @CottageFoodsLaws

    9 күн бұрын

    In Texas, the Cottage Food Law permits the sale of certain home-produced food items, but there are specific restrictions regarding low-acid canned foods, including salsas, especially when it comes to ingredients like garlic. Key Points: Low-Acid Foods: Salsas are considered low-acid canned foods, and the Texas Cottage Food Law does not allow the sale of these types of products because they can pose a risk of botulism if not processed correctly. Garlic in Salsa: Garlic can increase the risk of botulism in canned foods if not properly acidified. Therefore, salsas containing garlic (or other low-acid vegetables) are not allowed under the Texas Cottage Food Law. Allowed Products: You can sell certain types of foods that do not require refrigeration for safety. These include baked goods, jams, jellies, dried herbs, and spice mixes. If you want to sell salsas or other low-acid canned foods, you would need to follow the regulations for a commercial food establishment, which involves proper licensing, kitchen inspections, and possibly adhering to specific food processing guidelines.
