@@phantomstrider It's always a delight watching you discuss SpongeBob because not only has he been a loyal friend/cartoon brother to me my entire life and left a comforting impact in viscerally-triggering moments of recent years, but he epitomizes Nickelodeon spiritually at its best. When I walk through bookstores or department stores, I often see Jojo Siwa merchandise with the Nickelodeon label slapped onto the upper left corner and occasionally question, "This is from Nickelodeon?" On one hand, I've given a blasé shrug thinking in my mind, "Why bother when I'm no longer in the target demographic?" But imagining myself amongst the generation eating up this pandering, inexplicably popular KZread corporate junk, I'd rather - once Nick is on Netflix - children watch "SpongeBob", the "Avatar" series, most live-action content up until the early 2010s, and the entire roster of Nicktoons to remind them of pursuing imaginative avenues. Then again, I'm stretching myself on a tangent as is.

I remember the first time I saw it, and I have some fond memories of it. But probably because I watched the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory about 40 times so I liked the formula. In hindsight I do agree it's pretty bad though.

I liked it the first few times, but I eventually realized how bad it was. By the way, quick David Bowie fact. David bowie has heterochromia, and so does his character in the special!

The fact that Squidward is actually kind to everyone... makes me cry of joy, putting a smile on my face... I understand why Christmas Who? And season 1 through 5 are some of the most memorable things on TV

It’s also cool how in “Christmas Who?” Squidward didn’t originally intend on giving all his stuff away and was a bit reluctant, but because it was necessary to keep up the act and not let SpongeBob down, he kept doing it. It captures how the usual Squidward could be reluctantly driven to do something like this, so it doesn’t seem out of character.

I agree! The Christmas Special was one of my favorites because it showed the essence of Squidward. He's not just some cranky mean character who's just mean spirited. Like you said, he literally cleaned out his house to give to everyone in Bikini Bottom a present. The act itself is incredibly selfless but that he did it disguised as Santa meant he got no recognition for it. It reminds me of those people who record their good deeds and post it for everyone to see. I mean, I can't be mad at it because the most important thing is the person being helped but I can't help but feel like it's set up or they take the gift back after the camera stops rolling. Something about doing good, not for recognition, but just for the sake of doing good is something rare and warms my heart more than anything as I've been in the position where I wish the same would have been done for me and the people who DID give generously with no other request but to pay it forward. I still pray for these people and hope they are greatly rewarded for the kindness they showed me at my absolute lowest. The episode meant a lot more after growing up and experiencing things like this myself. Side note, love your juggling at the end lol

Moral of the story: Season 5-7 was weird .

The 3 specials that have a place in my heart are "Have You Seen This Snail?" "Dunces and Dragons" and "Christmas Who?" and I love that these are some of your favorites too. I relate to "Have You Seen This Snail?" because I had a pet kitten die when in 4th grade and I missed that kitten so much. Yeah Gary didn't die, but I could still feel sympathy for Spongebob when missing Gary. I miss that kitten everyday and seeing someone so sad when missing a pet makes me empathize with them

The christmas one, the one that Spongebob sings “Don’t be a jerk” I always watched that when I was little :) it was my favorite.

spongebobs last stand will always be my one of my favorite episodes. it had this vibe to it that was unmatched by any other special.

"Have You Seen This Snail?" is an episode I can never watch since April of 2018. My cat ran off a month to a month and a half before he passed away on April 4th of that year. It's not the concept itself of a lost pet, it's HOW the concept was explored and how it was portrayed. It's **too real** for me. Like, fuck, the way the writers made the whole episode is a testament to the greatness of the show. When it's great, it's timeless. While I cannot watch it again, I can understand just how good it is. It's one of the best of the series in my opinion.

I feel your pain bro, a few years ago my cat Mitzi went missing for about a week we were about to put up missing poster then one morning I herd a meow at the side of my bed and she was they’re! I was so happy I went up and cuddled her and cried, but then a few years later my other cat Honda who had been in my family for nearly 20 years died 😢. One of the best episodes I’ve ever seen of SpongeBob.

Dunces and dragons is literally the best episode of spongebob I’ve ever seen! Literally watched it this morning.

Patchy's breakdown is one of the best scenes in the entire show. For me, that puts the episode into the realm of SpongeBob's best. Though I'm actually glad to hear I'm not the only one who found the cartoon part of the episode to be surprisingly uninspired―I never understood why the songs have to suck so much, they're just poorly written and joyless. But again, "All of it! _All of it!"_ is delivered so perfectly that that bit is one of the first things I think of when I think of the show. Tom Kenny is a legend

the claymation christmas episode is my favorite special.

I always loved Spongebob Christmas! I like the episode because of the characters' design.

I actually really liked both Atlantis Squarepantis and Truth or Square, I think Truth or Square was extremely fitting for the sponge’s anniversary and Atlantis is probably one of the most underrated episodes. Yeah, there was a lot of filler, but most of it was done right :)

Though it’s your opinion, I still love “Give Jellyfish Fields a Chance”. It’s catchy (to me).

I hate how spongebob cares more about jellyfish fields than his favorite restaurant he works at is at risk of going out of business. Maybe that’s why the episode is hated.

Him: *mentions Labyrinth* Me, looking down and realizing I happen to be wearing my Labyrinth shirt with David Bowie on it: huh what a coincidence

That first Christmas special will always have a place in my heart where I get to watch it every year multiple times a year, and never get sick of it.

@@RoxNoAnne ok maybe the word hate wasn't the best word to describe "the spongebob who could fly" it's not an episode for a worst of list. It's just one of the more less popular episodes from season 1-3.

Alternate Scene in SpongeBob's Last Stand: When SpongeBob sees the jellyfish attacking Bikini Bottom and its citizens, as a result of replacing Jellyfish Fields with a highway, SpongeBob decides to let the jellyfish attack the town and its people for not listening to him and Patrick about the dangers of replacing Jellyfish Fields with a highway. I know it may sound cruel, but the townspeople of Bikini Bottom do deserve it for treating SpongeBob and Patrick like outcasts for protesting against the highway.

Let’s be real, the only reason party pooper pants didn’t make the worst list is because “Underwater Sun” is the most underrated spongebob song

Yeah, I believe that the song saved the special from being on the Worst list. But I still try to avoid it because the live-action segments are kinda boring. Basically, they're a complete waste of my time. "Please, just go back to the animation" I kept thinking to myself.

Truth or Square does hold a special place in my heart because it was the first SpongeBob episode I ever watched. As a kid my parents wouldn’t let me watch SpongeBob because they thought that he’d be a bad influence on me, but that was when I was really young. Anyways, Truth or Square popped up one day while I was on a trip and I watched it, I only remember the marriage part tho. Since it was the first episode I watched, it holds a special place in my heart even if it was bad

I remember kind of liking the first few minutes of the Bikini Bottom Triangle episode because it felt really mysterious the way stuff just disappeared. But once they got there I got bored.

The “have you seen this snail” episode actually made me cry.

I cried during "Have you seen this snail?" episode because of lost friendships and the thought of losing me friends.

Haven’t listened to Gary Come Home in a while. Listening to it now is just so heart wrenching. The lyrics, the melody, the flow. It’s all so beautiful.

Don’t forget that Christmas who has probably one of the best comebacks/Roasts and that apparently MR Krabs can hit those high notes

Christmas Who. That is my second favorite episode next to Band Geeks. 💜🎄 Squidward is my absolute favorite character and possibly he's my favorite cartoon character of all time. 💜🐙 Feral Friends (though a lot of people seem to like that episode for some reason) and Spongecano (never saw that episode) have got to be the 2 of the worst " let's make Squidward unlikeable and despicable just to justify his comeuppance/demise at the end." Yawn...Yawn.... I see Squidward more as wrathful than miserable. He is a volcano himself. And was a volcanic super hero at one point which was cool. But a lot of the writers don't know how to write interesting and inspired stories that have him as somewhat the focus like the previous good writers did. Mr. Lawrence, I'm looking at YOU. In the beginning Squidward was made to be the butt of the joke I get that, but now he's graduated from being the butt of the joke to now being the scapegoat of Spongebob Squarepants. He's really become the Meg of Spongebob and it's so freaking aggravating to see...Not to mention PREDICTABLE. No telling where they're going to take this musical spin-off he's supposedly getting...

Spongebob straight up went into depression in s.b. you're fired. That kind of reminds me of Squidwards depression in "Are you happy now" and the first spongebob movie where he went into depression after not getting his manager job he deserved, AND STRAIGHT UP GOT DRUNK. You know what depression leads to? Loss of happiness and suicide. Good thing neither Squidward or Spongebob committed to society in their depressions. That would be immediately pulled off the air like the red Mist reference in the Randomland episode

I think Spongebob’s House Party should’ve been there either as an Honorable Mention or one of the best Still a great list Strider
