    What have you learnt from your lucid dream adventures?

    One thing I have learned is that Dream control is not as simple as, “Think of something, and it appears”. Most lucid dreamers know this, and it does call into question where your thoughts “go” in dreams, if not into your environment.

    This night I just got my second lucid dream. It was amazing and its all thanks to you! I was sitting down playing this game I have played a lot of in waking life. I was playing with a friend and we were losing a match so we were getting angry. But then I said "This is not mortal, this is just a dream" to my friend. So then it hit me. What did I say? Is this really just a dream? Then "A dream scored" popped up on my screen, along with "Just a dream" In big red bold letters popped up as well. Then it hit me fully. I looked around me and saw my mom and older brother sitting on the couch. I was shocked, I knew it was a dream while i was dreaming. I was going to do a reality check when I lost it. Even if it were for like 5 seconds It still was the most amazing experience and I couldn't thank you enough!!

    Uh oh, a question about sleep paralysis - the somehow unwanted child of nightly adventures... For me personally it's not unwanted, I'm absolutely fascinated by it. I have this from time to time, it's rare, but when I have, is it possible to turn it into a lucid dream? And if, how? I tried several times to roll out of bed with my dreambody but it never worked as I was then rolling with my physical body and the paralysis (and all the hallucinations) ended. Would it be better to somehow imagine a dream and slip into it? The hallucinations I have during SP are the same that I experienced while trying a WILD (did never had a real one but managed it 2 times to fall asleep consciously). I feel strong vibrations, hear things like voices and have the feeling of falling backwards into the void. So, I always believe I missed a great opportunity to get a lucid dream while experiencing sleep paralysis. Any suggestion is highly appreciated! Ah - and thank you for the very interesting video, always a pleasure to get motivated!

    Sorry for the slow reply Theodor! - somehow I didn't get notified of this comment. With sleep paralysis, that would be a VERY good time to perform the DreamWalker approach - as it engages full sensory dissociative imagination, and allows the dream to form. Another approach I find useful is to think about some pressing task you have to do when you wake up, as often this will initiate a false awakening of doing exactly that task. Certainly stop the imagined rolling if that doesn't work for you - but the Impossible Movement Practice may be a lesser version that may bring better results. Thank you so much for your kind donation, and I hope this helps. Please let me know how you get along!

    The expectation reframing thing was brought to my attention with an experience with Elden Ring. A friend of mine has been playing it and I’m fairly certain his blood pressure has skyrocketed as a result. Every death is the game’s fault due to lag on the input or the enemy being unfair or what have you. Even though he still enjoys the game, watching him has scared some people off from trying it. My own experience has been less vitriolic, not from being better at it, I’m fairly certain I’ve died more than he has, but more that I expect some degree of failure but enjoy it as treating the whole thing as a problem solving exercise. Except that ONE part it’s complete and utter rubbish I definitely dodged that attack and 🤪

    First off - apologies if I'm rambling and incoherent. I've had to focus all day and my brain is absolutely fried. I can already sense that rambles will occur because I had a hard time focusing on this video without drifting slightly. It may also be very long so I apologize for that as well. I feel like, when exploring yourself, it's easy for someone to go the wrong way. On one hand, those who are a bit more pessimistic may feel as if they are bad or they may be scared of what they find. On the other hand, I can see how one can get knee deep in twaddle with analogies when comparing aspects of themselves with other things. I'm personally afraid of this as I don't want to be "wrong" (in literal terms of drawing a wrong conclusion and in terms of my thoughts being different from the norm). I also know that there are negative aspects about me, but, I don't want to face them because I still have a pessimistic outlook and may think "if this one thing is bad, I'm bad" which can lead to a negative spiral full of emotions. It's also a bit hard to view ourselves as an alien as we think we know so much about ourselves but also some dissociation. While this statement is contradictory to itself, I've never thought of dream characters as programming. I find that I have thought of them (and of myself) as different aspects of myself, but more so of embodiments of emotions or a single process (joy, anger, hunger, stuff like that). I often try to avoid fully saying it because I'm still uncertain if it's a helpful way to go about things, but, I suppose (at least for dream characters) I've been viewing this form of programming wrong. I don't know if I'm interpreting this wrong, but, maybe viewing them as something more like computer code would be more easier/logical than more abstract parts. Final part I guess. Expectation is the building blocks but also the limit in lucid dreaming. Expectations allow for so many things to happen but for so many things not to happen. I liked how you brought up that expectations also drive our real life experiences. After an event happened to me, I noticed that my negative perceptions on one issue would get worse, to the point where it caused and still is causing self-loathing to the point where I want to get rid of all aspects of that inside of me. It's what has driven me to go through mental obstacles where I know something isn't inherently true but I feel as if it is, even if I can't draw a good reason for it. It's hard break an expectation. Great video as always! I apologize for maybe rambling and going into an internal viewing. I'll definitely have to give this video a second watch!

  • @LucidDreamPortal

    @LucidDreamPortal

    2 жыл бұрын

    Please never apologize for rambling, it's genuinely a privileged when people share their inner worlds, and I appreciate you taking the time. Being Human is definitely complicated and confusing, but trying to understand and improve ourselves (even though we're all flawed) is an important part of growing.

  • @LucidDreamPortal

    @LucidDreamPortal

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Michael, firstly, thank you for your kind support and welcome to the club! - I am also a very deep sleeper, it needn't be a major hurdle to dream recall. Are you getting your full 8 hours sleep each night? If not, then increasing your sleeping time should give you a better chance at quality and memorable REM. If you are also someone who performs a lot of exercise, this will lead to higher degree on NREM sleep, again more sleep would be needed to counter this. Certain medications may also cause issues with dream recall, so if you are on any medications I recommend talking to your doctor regarding this. Also, it would be worth taking more time in the morning to "fish for dreams", take a look at the "Dream Recall Meditation" here on the channel for a guided walk through on this. I hope this offers a few good places to start.

  • @LucidDreamPortal

    @LucidDreamPortal

    2 жыл бұрын

    A reality test is far more about mindset than any practical tests - so there really shouldn't be any scenarios where it is entirely impossible. There is almost always mental space to test reality, even in very busy environments. And in the rare moments when situations are overwhelmingly busy/important, using one's prospective memory to remember to perform a test at the next most convenient time is best. But if you're performing a reality test correctly, then most circumstances shouldn't be a limitation (short of crossing a road, or some life/health endangering situation).

    I'm not sure what you mean by fake, but I often have what I'd call fake lds. I know I'm dreaming, but I can't change the scenery. Things often go dark, or fade out and back. That's all I want to change, but I have no power. Or I notice that all the other people in the dream are weak and submissive. And cowardly. They have no will. It's a disgusting world to be in, and I can't transform the scenery like a film maker. On the other hand, some of the most profound dreams Ive ever had were non self-aware, technically non-lucid, just spectacular! And very LUCID literally.

    for the past few weeks ive been getting pretty frequent lucid dreams, ive had around 7 in total now. But, they only last for around a minute at most. Im not sure if its because im getting too excited or im doing something wrong but its kind of frustrating. Is there something i can start doing to start staying the dream longer?

    There are a few videos on Lucid Dream Portal's channel covering ways to prolong lucid dreams. I'll link them for you below in case you haven't watched them yet: - How to Lucid Dream for Longer - PROVEN Tips From a LD Professional (For Beginners): kzread.info/dash/bejne/fqil0KezpbLTd7Q.html - How To Lucid Dream LONGER For Beginners (The ULTIMATE Guide): kzread.info/dash/bejne/hquEo7iGgKe1h84.html - Longer Lucid Dreams in One Minute: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dmSE1NCafsa9lpc.html - I also recommend watching this one: Do THIS to Have VIVID Lucid Dreams: kzread.info/dash/bejne/opx7vMGHj6ioZNo.html Of course, sometimes waking up "too soon" may also be caused by the REM period in question ending anyway, but I think you should find the videos listed above very helpful for those times when that is not the case!

    I have been thinking of this for a long while now, as you may recall, I am very interested in the cycle adjustment practice. The method itself is clear enough, but how is one supposed to attempt this without experiencing sleep deprivation? I know Stephen Laberge stated it is essential to sleep sufficiently to lucid dream, in your book it is stated that sleeping earlier is the solution, though this simply results in me waking earlier. How would you approach this if you were me?

    If you wake earlier. Return to bed for a nap, any sleep after your main sleep is almost always REM. And most of us wake earlier than is optimal.

    @@LucidDreamPortal Thanks for the clarification! What effect would creating a mild biphasic sleep schedule have on this technique, as opposed to interrupting sleep, actually conditioning the body to awaken a brief period of the night, naturally, would this result in routinely alert REM sleep or defeat the purpose of it all?

    I would highly advise against biphasic sleep or any strange sleep cycles. Sleep is absolutely vital for physical and mental health, and lucid dreaming should never be a cause to limit that process.

    @@LucidDreamPortal of course, it would not be limiting sleep, I would simply adjust my sleep/wake time to account for it, what I am wondering is, when properly arranged, could a well arranged biphasic sleep schedule yield results in a unique way? Or is it equally as useful as going to sleep once in the night?

    DL. I have some thoughts that I would like to share with you and would rather share the content with you in a preferred private communication. How would one go about this , (ie text, email, etc). Out of respect for you I feel that it would be better for you to take in the information in a controlled manner so you can determine whether or not it is worthy to share with the rest of the dreamers.
