While aerodynamics, fitness and your bike's weight will all make a difference to how fast you go. The fact is that they all require some sort of investment in time or money. The suggestions in this video will - in some cases - cost you a little but of money, but, for the most part they are cheap and effective ways to make your bike go just a little bit faster.

#6 Hit the leg press machine at the gym. Then use the glut machine too. If you use clipless pedals don't forget the hamstring machines. Oh and what the heck, might as well use the soleus machine too for the deep calf muscles. Then when you are done, train on a heavy cargo bike. Don't forget interval training and reducing your splits. Always train on miserable days, like when it is windy, rainy, cause on race day you never know what the day will bring:)

My personal favourite was riding through a wooded area, It beeing 2 am. Pitchblack, a part from the moon looking trough the treetops here and there. And then having your headlight go out and starting to hear the creeks and whistles of the forrest. Add a slight morning fog to that and I had my fastest strava time yet. Another one would be "Get Peter Sagan to do it instead"

I have almost had a really bad experience with bearings. I was doing a 32 mile race on a 70's road bike. 2 miles from the finish, my front wheel bearings exploded. Oh, I might mention there was a mountain in the middle of the race. Had it happened there. I would have been flung off my bike and 40 mph. Lesson learned - use bike specific grease.

I'm glad bearings was mentioned. I regrease my bearings religiously once a year (more if I drive in wet conditions). Just love the feeling of freshly greased bearings and it only makes sense as they get a lot of use. As for how much lube to use, sure, you can skimp a bit as some is bound to push it's way out and it'll just attract dust, but I do not recommend using only 25%, 50-75% is plenty especially of you regrease every year. 25% just seems like it'll invite wear or (even worse), the dreaded rust monster.

I'm catching up on the GCN Videos. Changes I've in the process of making are to the callipers and rotors. Bike as supplied 140mm rotors with cable CX Expert Single pot callipers. Changing to 160mm front rotor and both callipers to Trp spyre. twin piston caliper. Reasoning: 1) twin piston callipers have equal pressure on the rotor giving more equal pad wear, whereas single piston callipers cause a slight bend on the rotor when braking and unequal pad wear. 2) The TRP Sypres are lighter by around 45 grams each 3) Should have better heat dissipation on the front due to larger rotor.

I weigh 50kg and run a low pressure of about 50 to 65 PSI on 27x1.25 inch tires. If found it to be a good compromise between smoothness and low rolling resistance. I haven't gotten anything close to a pinch flat either. 90 plus PSI was so harsh that I could literally feel myself slowing down due to rough road textures. Higher pressure doesn't always correspond to higher speed. Especially in the real world.

Do bikes have bearings? Like for skateboarding there are stainless steel bearings that are good, but you can also shell out a few hundred dollars for ceramic bearings which are extremely smooth. Like it feels like you are ring on slick ice. So you can coast forever. Is there anyhting out there that reduces the amount of friction between the bike tire and axle?

my best way to make my bike faster was upgrading my bike (lost 4kg there) and going to a sportive nutritionist that helped me get to a more competitive weight (lost 8kg so far, aiming for 10....was a a bit fat) What about lubs, I use a ceramic dry one, would you recommend that for winter? So when looking to get lube, I was specifically looking at the one used above, how do I decide which suits me best, some are labeled for dry conditions, some for wet conditions, but you know in this country you can never really depend on the weather. Is there a one size fits all or do I need multiple products?

Many moons ago , back in the 80's I used to ride a Raleigh road bike and pump tyres up with the hand held pump supplied ! Those pumps were useless and was probably cycling with 40 psi 😂 ! Just started cycling since lockdown , done 600 km in 8 weeks on a 5 year old boardman hybrid ! Just found out tyre pressure should be 100 psi , I been pumping upto 60 psi , hopefully my average speed of 25 kmh goes up !

I definitely notice a clean drivetrain speeds me up. If it's raining and it's been 2-3 weeks since I cleaned at winter time (don't worry I don't do this anymore!) it feels like a new, and much quieter bike :(

The Berto tire pressure app will use your bike geometry and weight of you and the bike to figure the optimum pressure to use in front and rear tire.

Tấn Sang Lê Depends on your tire width. But around 90-95 will be fine. If you've got really smooth roads go higher and rough go lower.

I've read that you can run a fair amount less pressure in your front tyre vs rear. I weigh 63 KG, run 23 mm tyres, and use about 95 in the rear and 90 up front.

  • @ChuiStrong

Yes that's fine, but just not the other way around. Lower pressures do mean more grip, and you gennerally do not want less grip on your front tyre.

  • @MohammadAbubakr

You can put about 10% less PSI on the front since there is more weight on the back. However, don't look at it like you will put 100% at the front and 90% at the back, while it's the same thing, it's usually better to pump the back tire to what you need (110 in my case) and then do 10% less than that at the front.

How tight should the QR be? Some says it should be light, some says real tight. I find that my wheels spin better when I only tighten them lightly. Todays design makes sure they stay in place anyway.
