#6 way to increase ketones is exercise! By burning using the glycogen stored in muscles, your body revs up ketones. I have used this now for years as my go to solution for low ketones. Cardio is good, resistance is slightly better. So 1 hours of cardio or 30 minutes of resistance, for me, produces 1 to 1.5 improvement in Ketones.

I've read from multiple sources that the body doesn't like to release it's muscle glycogen storage, as it is needed in exercise (good old "running away from a lion"). Rather, you only need to empty your digestive tract for the fat burning to get activated. If you'd run out of all glycogen, you'd (I imagine) experience a similar thing than an ultra-marathon runner would, which is fall on the ground, absolutely wrecked.

I've been carnivore for 4 years. I do drink organic, mold free decaf coffee in am. I also have an occasional bit of 100% dark cacao. I eat sardines daily and I am pretty sure I sleep at least 7 hours every night. I also exercide 5 days a week. My fasted glucose every am is in the mid to upper 90's. My AlC is 5.2. My ketones never reguister above .3. Any idea why would this be? Would MCT oil really make the difference? Thanks for your suggestions

What is your carb intake like? I found when i went zero or very low my body made the glucose to keep me about 90. As soon as i started eating closer to 20-25 grams of healthy carbs my sugar dropped to 80.

I've been doing low carb for 3 months and have lost 25 lbs and yesterday I had labs and my A1C was 4.9 but for some reason my urine showed I had a level of 80 mg/dl for ketones. Is this bad? Why is it so high?

Be very careful with MCT Oil, even one teaspoon really upset my stomach and gave me diarrhoea. I am on keto and the coffee I had dehyrated me even further and I ended up feeling really unwell and it took me about 3 days to recover. I also had taken magnesium citrate which tbh was a really bad mistake on my part which also has a laxative effect so I gave my body a dehydration tripple whammy. No wonder I got so unwell. I will take mct oil again but starting out with 1/4 of teaspoon, no coffee and no mag citrate. I no longer use mag citrate I use mag glycogen, an unbuffered high quality version that does not act as a laxative. Anyway this is my experience so be careful and don't make my mistake.

My problem is that I can hardly sleep at all on low carb/keto/carnivore. Not even after doing it for many months! (9 months the first time, 6 months the second time before I literally HAD to stop.) I just got 2-4 hrs of interrupted sleep bcs I was just constantly running on stresshormones. Maybe bcs the body couldn't use fats and/or make enough endogenous glucose. I never fasted btw, I couldnt. And I didn't undereat plus practiced sleep hygiene. Imagine sleeping that bad for months and months... It got incredibly dangerous, I had intense chest pain and arythmias plus intense intracranial pressure. Felt like I was about to have a heart attack or a stroke at any moment in the end. I was a complete, shivering mess after that. A tsp (or even more) of honey before bed doesn't do the trick for me. I have to eat carbs throughout the day to stave off stresshormones. I don't know what to do to be able to fat/keto adapt. And I want to bcs I have lots of inflammation and pain. Probably insulin resistance aswell. And thyroid antibodies. If I only knew what the heck to do...😞 (I've been living on disability for many years so I can't afford any more coaching sadly. With the food prices and everything else going up I struggle to even make it every month.) Maybe you have some insights you can share here though? You must have come across difficult cases like me before? Any tips on how they made it work for them?

I'm leaning on the supplement path for you too. Iodine. ease into it. 10-20mg not mcg. Get a good liquid product. Lugols. My wife was in your boat but less severe. For me i feel you pain during the day. Hormones need a kick in the pants. Ice cold showers fix some of it for me. If you can't or don't fast. You should start there. 12 and 12 hours split. One meal is one way. Or two meals. But if you can't sleep, you need to keep on the path of searching and finding here on youtube. Let me know if you have more questions.
