    I went to Michigan for church camp as a teenager, and when we went tubing I think the adults driving the boats might've been harboring just a _liiiiittle_ bit of suppressed anger considering the way they seemed to purposefully be steering us directly into the wakes of each other's boats

  • @jakegarrett8109

    @jakegarrett8109

    Nah that's a good driver, that's the best! It's way more fun that way, also if you have 2 pulled with the same length rope they can crash into each other harmlessly, BUT if you have two different lengths the person at the rear can try to saw the guy in half up front and they can play jumping over the rope while holding on for dear life. I live for the excitement, not to be going safe speeds! Adventurous driver of boats are what I want, if its not full gas its not fast enough!

    @@jakegarrett8109 But for the inexperienced passenger, I can definitely empathize ! I've only gotten to go tubing behind a boat once in my life, one tube, no other motor boats around really, and I was about 11. It was one of the few times I've really had a very fun time in my life, and it would NOT have been fun for me if I'd been doing the things you described. I wouldn't have been ready for that.

    @@ajb.822 Haha, I was a bit of an adrenaline junky. Still am, ramping the speed bumps in front of the guards like its moto-X and doing wheelies off them on a military base, haha! I admit though it is a good idea to go a bit slower so you can figure out what you're doing when you start. Indeed some of the tubing is the best times I've ever had (my profile picture is me driving one of my dad's boats, I don't even like boats, but I love tubing!). Only got to go tubing maybe a dozen times in my life, I'd love to do it some more though, great time!

    That Muskie story reminds me of when we were fishing the middle channel for Walleye out on the St Claire, and I hooked one that took a half hour to get up to the boat. Thought I’d hooked a sturgeon, but could tell it was a Wally when it’s pale eye the size of a dinner plate came up to the port side of the boat. Then the boat rocked and I heard a thump, looked over the starboard side, and there was the Walleye’s other eye!

We rented Minnich’s boats many a time, and many a time we were frantically pulling the cord, trying to get it started so we could get out of the way of a freighter! Dad bought a boat just in time for the mud puppies and zebra mussels to ruin the wally fishing and we haven’t been back since our cousin sold his cabin cruiser that we would go fish the lake on, been almost 10 years now. The tubing bit was me. 6 years old at my cottage. My parents forced me to try the tube with my aunt and I flipped off, cut my lip on the surface, and swore i'd never tube again. 15 years later, tubing is my favorite summer activity.
