    One thing I would also recommend when practicing push ups for large/giant breeds is that a slow down is OKAY! Fast downs are hard on the elbows and often results in the development of bursas. My Irish Wolfhound struggled with bursas due to too fast of downs.

    Oh wow! I have an Irish wolfhound puppy (6 months) that just finished obedience training level 1 and I have the hardest time getting him to go from a stand to down! He always wants to go to down from the sit position. Really cool to see another Irish wolfhound do this! I even tried to search it up for tips before, and most videos teach it from the sit position. So cool! Thanks guys for the info and inspiration. I'll keep working on it with my buddy Atlas!

    I agree with Whatever it Takes, in that I would like more info on how you are feeding the treats. I’m not afraid of my dog biting my finger. Is the dog constantly biting pieces of the treat off? Are there multiple pieces in your hand and he gets little pieces as he progresses? Is he only getting the reward at the end, but you are just keeping the treat by his nose?

    Thats a whole other exercise you can do with your dog...hold it so they can't steal it, and make them have a soft mouth before you release it. You might get nipped by mistake a couple of times but teaching them to take them softly of important.

    What Antonia suggested is 100% what you should practice. I would do it with mine by teaching “no mugging!” I’d hold the treat in my closed fist and he would go crazy over it. I’d say “no mugging!” And look for him to sit back and wait patiently. He caught on super quick 😊

    Are these exercises low cardio enough to do with a dog on heartworm restriction exercise for at least a month ?

  • @mernany

    @mernany

    3 жыл бұрын

    I know it’s been three months but I’ll answer for others who might be in the same situation. The pet shouldn’t have any exercise. 8 weeks of no exercise at least. I would try brain games like puzzle feeders to wear them out vs. anything physical. The pet is having the parasite die within their blood stream and the body needs time to safely remove/break this down. Any exercise puts them at risk of dislodging the worms from the heart and leading to serious complication and possible death.

    16:32 what should I do, when the training worked way too well, for my extremely food motivated puppy? What I mean by that, is that I teach him something and once he understands he will get food for doing that. He will be doing it without getting asked and get frustrated, anxious, angry, and sometimes aggressive when he is not getting his food. For example, when I taught him to sit. Suddenly I would realize he would sit around me constantly and at first, I thought it was cute. But then he got mad and started growling and barking, if I got my hand close, he would bite. He would do it the whole day, and when he realized he was getting no food he would snap. And that happens with everything I teach him; he starts doing it over and over expecting infinite food. And he is so food motivated, that even when I give him precisely the amount he needs, he always wants more. Sometimes I wonder, if I should reward it anyway, but then it would reinforce it. And verbal rewards, doesn't seem to work. In fact, if I say yes without giving him food, he would get mad.

    Hi! So i have a puppy about 4 months, we got him when he was about 2-3 months and i always trained him to poop and pee on training pads but recently we moved him into a small area in my basement with a little door for him to go outside, but we tried to train him to not pee or poop in that area but hes a scaredy cat and never poops outside. This has been going on for about 2-3 weeks and we really need some help on how to get him to understand that his little area is for sleeping and eating only and to go out and pee on his own time without me getting him and bringing him outside. If you can please respond, thank you!
